Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My last 2 tire changes, I elected to go with a "frugle" selection.

I still only use tried and true top end rubber on the track, though.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just replaced my 295/30/19 Michelin PS2 N1s in rear yesterday - at $589 each! This was up from $505 each the last time (March '07), at same Tire Kingdom location.
I see why some guys are going to other tire options from a cost viewpoint, but I needed to match front tread pattern (I go through 3 sets of rears for each set of fronts).
It's apparent that anything made using petroleum (esp. something heavy, transported great distances) is only going to keep going up, stratospherically.
I've got almost 10k miles on my Sumitomo's HTR Z III's with excellent results/reviews....I'm going to buy them again when these wear out.
I didn't get the II's because I had bad tramlining experience and high noise with them on my last car (BMW 328i), otherwise they were also good grip wise.
My last 2 tire changes, I elected to go with a "frugle" selection. First I tried the WanLi brand then a set of Khumos(?). A friend who works at a tire shop seriously recommended them over Michelins, Perelli or anything else. I thought they were just cheap, ill performing copies that weren't worth the stickers stuck to them. Then I tried a set. First on the DD '00 GTI fitted with 19" wheels. Then on the '98 M Roadster. They stick in the dry, the wet, the corners, the straights and they last, last, last. You will have to put up with a bit more road noise and a bit less compliant pothole response but these 3rd world tires are pretty darnn good.
The set on the GTI have gone over 60k mile (YES 60) and they are showing maybe half worn. The tire shop has been tracking their performance and we are all amazed they are holding up for so long. I've been swapping road meats for a long time and am not a novice. The cheap stuff works on the street. I still only use tried and true top end rubber on the track, though.
