Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is not as fast as my 996, but my Accord is fast. I raced a fully loaded 18-wheeler today and I was able to beat that pig by..... get this..... 2-1/2 car lengths in the 1/4 mile. He initially got me off the line but when 2nd gear kicked in.... he was TOAST! I don't have Sport Chrono, but I think I did the standing 1/4 mile in about 38 seconds flat! It's only Wednesday, so I thought a few of you might need a good chuckle!

POST 2Original post

Tim, you sound like me in my Westfalia. I'm racing people -- and they don't even know it!

POST 4Original post

Good kill Tim, all I beat a few weeks back in the '87 was a Honda 600RR sportbike (He must of not downshifted enough but it was funny to see him lean on the tank for less wind resistance and I still slowly walked him)

POST 5Original post

Ashley Force has nothing on him. Tim is a master driver drag racer in his own mind. ... photo from NHRA Supernationals In Englishtown last weekend.

2 and a half car lengths... your lengths, or his?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5547761

Well..... uhm..... er...... my car lengths.

POST 10Original post

flames might look nice... that or a big stripe like the one that Starsky & Hutch had on their car.

POST 11Original post

Tim I think that honda is nearly as fast in a straight line as a tip 993 (I'm ducking as I type this) According to edmunds, an 08 Accord V6 with a manual runs 1/4 in 14.6 @ 101.6 That's faster than a Ferrari... Mondial maybe?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5548101

Unfortunately, I have a 4 cylinder with an automatic, so I think my initial guess of 38 seconds for the 1/4 mile was about right.

What the crap are they feeding these late model diesel pick'em up trucks, these days. My '00 GTI VR6 caught pure, unadulterated HELL from an extended cab, long wheelbase model through 3 gears!! they have to wiegh 3 tons, right?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 5548768

I weighed my Dads Dodge Cummins single cab dually and it came in at a feather-weight of 7200 lbs back in the 90's!!!

POST 16Original post

Tim, you're just lucky he didn't make you pull over so he could ditch his trailer and make you run 'em again!

POST 17Original post

Perhaps not as fast, but I suspect you would beat any 996 in a MPG race. Stefan

Hey Wellard - I haven't been to an NHRA event in years and haven't really kept up with drag racing scene either..was shocked and sad to tune in by chance over the weekend to learn Scott Kalitta had died at the track.

POST 19Original post

Tim, Keep it on the track. Racing on the streets at 40 mph can be extremely dangerous without a roll cage.

POST 20Original post

Look at the bright side . . . I bet you don't have the Honda service manager on speed dial . . .

POST 21Original post

Hey Tim, let us know if you 'ever' have to take your Honda in for an unscheduled service.

POST 22Original post

Wellardmac - nice shot from Englishtown. Was that Friday, cos if so I was a few rows up from where you took that picture. And yes, it was very tragic what happened to Scott Kalitta. Reminds us just how dangerous racing can be.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source posts: 5549316, 5550361

Yup, it was tragic and yes, I was there on Friday. I saw him in his pit area and I saw his runs Friday. I was then saddened to see the video of his death on Saturday. Not a good way to go, but at least it was fast and he went doing something he loved. I'm glad that I wasn't there on Saturday. Pretty funny that you were a few rows away from where I was standing (I was at the concrete wall in front of the stands) - it's a small world. I love the Supernationals... it's so much fun to wander around the pit areas and see these guys at work, then see the cars on the track. Here are a few photos of the two runs that Scott did on Friday. ... now, so much for Toyota reliability.

POST 24Original post

At least the photos show that tim could have flames on the side of his car if he did the right tuning to his engine. (and in bad taste) He could have flames everywhere if he tuned it badly.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5550779

Flames! Yeah, that's what my POS needs. I think I sill have my "flame template" laying aroung here somewhere. I think I kept it after I did the flames on the 996.

POST 26Original post

So, you beat the 18 wheeler. Did he stop at the truckstop during your run, or were you able to take him flat out? Oh, I forgot, you have a 4 banger with an automatic. Tim, you really are trying to forget your 996

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5556143

STOP AT THE TRUCK STOP?????? Hell, I beat him flat out, thank you!

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 5556215

...having your foot flat to the floor doesn't mean you beat him flat out.

POST 29Original post

The last Honda I owned was a CRX-SI in 86, great car. Honda hasn't inspired me since especially the Accord but man, I really dig yours. Seriously that is a fine looking coupe.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5556436

Thank you, I apprciate the kind words. I really am trying to like the car (OK, I'll be honest.... I am trying hard not to HATE the car) but I just haven't warmed up to it yet. Quite frankly, I don't think I will EVER warm up to it. Porsche has spoiled me. What they say is true...... there is no substitute! Don't ask me how I know!

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5556238

That was COLD, but funny! Another observation about the Accord. You know how the 996 corners like it's on rails? Well, my Accord corners like it's on ICE! Thank goodness it has only 17 HP, other wise I could get in trouble in the twisties! I know what I need. I am going to find some 18" X 8" wheels for the front and 18" x 11" wheels for the rear. With 11" wide wheels on the rear, I will get more traction. Oh, wait..... that won't work..... my !@#$%^&* POS Accord is front wheel drive. OK, how about this....... do you think 11" wide wheels in the front and 8" wide wheels in the rear would look strange?

I like your idea! I've got to admit that I sorta feel the same way about my Acura... it's a great car, but it's a really poor substitute for the Carrera. Driving to work on the days when I drive the Acura are just not as fun and it's even worse when I drive home in the Carrera, then jump into the Acura to go to the gym.

POST 33Original post

phhhttt. try jumping in my Subaru. corners like its on jello.

hada911! Haaa!!! Brilliant! Those Honda's are fast (V6), but my '05 V6 can't handle for sh*t! Wait a minute...Honda Accord = modern day muscle car?

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 5557865

it is kinda crazy, a modern accord v6 with manual runs 0-60 and 1/4 significantly faster than a 1st gen pontiac GTO or really most other mid 60s muscle cars
