Maybe the Focals are midrange & up drivers, mean to be used with a sub, and have no bass?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I am busy replacing my stock speakers in my Porsche 996 Millennium ...
I have the porsche upgrade system with Haes 6x40W DSP Amplifier.
I put 2 Infinity's in the dash, 2 in the back, and put 2 way Focals 130 CVX in the door.(door speaker old stock where Nokia 5.25" Mid Bass)
But the Focals in the door don't work because it can only produce low frequencies, because there must be a crossover somewhere.(or it must be the connection in the amp to the door speakers...)
Can anybody tell me please how to get the door speakers to work, without replacing the amp?
Thanks!
I don't think you can. The crossover is probably built into the amp...if you reopen the door speakers, I don't think you'll find an inline crossover on the wire going into the speaker (which then you could just cut out). I think most folks put the tweeter/mid range up in the dash...and leave the door speaker as a mid-base - this is even if they are changing out the amp!
Don't work at all? What is their impedance? I'd bet the door 'subs" are low impedance, like 2ohm. Maybe the Focals are midrange & up drivers, mean to be used with a sub, and have no bass? I know they are inefficient speakers, so not a good choice for "bass" repalcement. If you wanted them as full channel replacements , you should drive them right off the speaker outputs on the head unit (which are unused with the "upgraded" Becker system, only the low level inputs go to the amp.) This way you don't have to worry about the impedance load that the "40W" (yeah right) amp would see. FWIW, Do the Infinitys sound as loud or louder? (I know they have to sound better) Did you just go with Co-ax 4"ers and leave the OEM tweeters in , dead? What models did you use. I have th esame system and was looking to do the same thing
Hi,
Thanks for the advice first of all...
The focals 130 cvx are 2 way 4 ohm speakers, and the old door speakers are Nokia 2ohm midbass speakers.
Only thing the focals do is going up and down quiet a lot, but there isn't much sound coming out of them, because the amp only feeds low freq to the door speakers it seems.
In the dash I have INFINITY KAPPA 42.7i, 4-inch 150W, and they are working nice. Good strong sound, and much better than the old stock ones.
I wanted to replace the door speakers with normal 2 way Focals.( and maybe than put one/2 seperate subs in the back,if i think I still need it)
But I think I will perhaps get some 5.25" bass/midbass speakers for the door, and sell the Focals
.
I don't want to spent too much time in rewiring the door speakers from the radio itself....but thanks for the advice.(maybe it's easy to do to get the wire from the radio through the car?)
Otherwise it looks like I have to put a new amp in , and rewire the whole car....I don't want to do that, because I don't care that much for the perfect sound.
I just want a better sound without to much hassle.
Any pics of how you installed the 42.7's to the OEM housing? I've seen the 42.7's referenced in other posts but never a dang pic or clear description. Did you build a ring to mount the speaker to, which then mounted to the OEM housing? I wondered about clearance of that bolt that holds the passenger side airbag, it looks like it would be right under and hit the magnet.
