Suggestion

There is a retrofit kit that changes the style of the mechanisms to more securly hold down the top, this MAY have all the parts you need.

Suggestion

I'm not sure if the 996 uses additional hardware, but if so it must be available from the dealer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, Question. Went from a C2 convertible to a TT. My new car did not come with the hard top top option and as a result does not have the hardware (behind the rear seats) to lock down the hard top. Does anybody know whether a retrofit is possible ? Which part numbers ? Difficult to install ? Thanks !

POST 2Original post

I'm pretty sure the top can be installed. On the Boxster the parts needed are called spinlocks. I'm not sure if the 996 uses additional hardware, but if so it must be available from the dealer.

POST 3Original post

Yes. If your didn't already have the hardware installed then you can get it done. I have seen several threads over the years (here and renntech.org) discussing it.

POST 4Original post

When do you plan to install the hardtop living in GA?

POST 5Original post

Check the TSB's on Renntech. There is a retrofit kit that changes the style of the mechanisms to more securly hold down the top, this MAY have all the parts you need.
