My engine failed, without warning and without being driven aggresively; the cause was subsequently discovered to be 3 split liners on one side of the engine....with no good reason for it occuring.

After having my car in the shop for another month, I finally got the third rebuilt engine installed after having the car for 1,000 miles and a new clutch while it was in there, costing me another $12,000... While driving home from the dealer, in rush hour traffic, all of a sudden, I hear what sounds like my car running over hundreds of metal shards... only to soon realize it's my transmission... (confirmed on the phone with the porsche dealer while waiting for the tow truck driver)... I try to pull over to the side, almost hitting a center divider and the vehicle to the right of me trying to figure out why my car won't go forward when i press the gas...... i spend 2 hours in the cold blocking the traffic on the freeway waiting for a flat bed tow truck to tow my car back into the dealer for a $6,000 transmission job..
I've absolutely had it... 1,100 miles of driving, 3 engines, 2 engine fires, a new transmission, coolant box, 2 clutches, coolant hoses having to be replaced after breaking, srs seat belt fault causing srs to fail, flywheel, starter, radiator, etc... i can't take it anymore... $40,000 in maintenance costs in 1,100 miles of owning this lemon...
i'm done... i will never, ever, ever, own another porsche for the rest of my life... on monday i'm talking to a lawyer... i just got home, and i'm steamed...
i've never in my life encountered this from a vehicle... porsche should take back this poor excuse for transportation, pay me what I paid for it and reimburse me the $40,000 i've invested into it since i bought it a thousand miles ago... not to mention the hundreds of hours of lost time, frusteration and stress this poor excuse for a vehicle has caused me...
i'm going to bed, hopefully to never see this car or another porsche again...
here's my bill for the engine today... add the transmission, and we'll be at a nice even $40,000... not bad for 1100 miles of driving huh...
anyone know a good lemon law lawyer in the seattle area? this has become personal with me... I almost got killed today on the freeway, from this damn thing... i can't take it anymore... i never want to see this damn thing again..
According to Porsche everything checks out perfectly on the car, ever since I bought it... independant shops have said nothing is wrong with it.. the porsche dealer that I just got the engine installed at, said it's in excellent condition with no problems....
I don't know what to do.... I've spent the past month without this car, finally hoping, that this would be the last thing.... and 2 hours later, the transmission goes on me.... spend another $6,000, and then resell it, and have some guy sue me for not disclosing the problems it has had?
The new owner, will be the owner of this lemon as well, and if i'm not upfront about the issues, then i'll be responsible for the damages... and if I sell it as a parts, as-is or trade-in, i'll be out another $10,000 atleast, making my grand total $65,000 in losses... I just don't know what to do... and am so upset about the situation... who in their right mind would buy a car with this history? and who is going to reimburse me the $40,000 + $15,000 in exterior modifications (which I won't get a dime back for) i've put into this lemon?
I honestly, can't believe a car, any car can have these many problems, and never have been taken back? and still check out perfectly with the porsche dealer and every independant porsche shop... it's one thing to have a lemon.. but I think when I purchased this vehicle, I think I bought the lemon farm...
the vehicle was purchased thousands of miles away from an auction and bought at a ford dealer (this would be the first car for their new exotic car lot.. sound exotics..)... with no warranty... I can't imagine I have any recourse, but maybe a lawyer will be able to assist me in some way... right now I can't think straight...
I just know, that everytime I start the car, I feel as if I'm Robert Deniro in Casino starting up the Cadillac... waiting for it to explode on me... can you blame me..
Sorry, but there has to be something that you're not telling us. No way you went through 3 engines and 2 trannies unless extreme abuse was taking place. Confirmed by the mechanics that said everything was fine with the engines.
Nice try though.
I've had over 20 cars, I know how to drive a vehicle without abusing it, thank you very much.
Did you see my other post where I posted all my receipts, including the replacements for all 3 engines in the past 1,100 miles? If you wish, I would be glad to post them again for you to see....
I'm sorry to all, I don't mean to take this out on you guys.. i'm just venting again... it's so frusterating all of this.. i wouldn't believe it, if it didn't happen to me either... anyways, i'm off to bed... tomorrow hopefully i'll figure out how to dispose of this thing without going broke or going to jail... sigh...
No, can't blame you. Sorry to hear about the problems and you should talk to a lemon law attorney. Maybe you can recover some of you losses. My father had a Mercedes with several problems years ago and has never purchases or considered a Mercedes since so I know where your coming from. Every maker has their share of lemons, even the Japanese ones. Unfortunately, this is an example of the down side of purchasing a preowned car, even with PPI, etc. Sometimes you just can't tell. I hope that everythign turns out.

yes, park place is an independant... where I had most of my work done, but in order to have the 2 year guarantee with the engine, this time I brought the car to an authorized porsche service dealer to have the third engine installed... they told me everything was in excellent conditon as I left... two hours later my tranny goes out... on Monday i'll speak with them and hopefully something can be done about this with them... and then I have to figure out how to get rid of this thing...
and yes i know this all sounds unbelievable, but it did happen.. do you really think I just made up all those receipts I posted earlier and today? look at the date on them....
i'm happy to hear you are all enjoying your car, i wish i was one of you... like i said before, the driving experience on the car is awesome, but after what i've been through, i will never be able to trust another porsche ever again...
i honestly feel like i've been raped by this marque, another porsche won't solve the problem... I've lost all sense of security, safety, and patience with this marque... if anything i've learned... factory warranty, factory warranty, factory warranty.. with any other vehicle I ever buy again... ..
I tried to give it one more last chance... but this was the end of it.. I surrender.... $40,000 in repairs in 1,100 miles of driving is ridiculous...

not trying to be a smartass or anything, but these horror stories, and to whatever extent they are true, are why i don't buy used cars, and will never understand the mentality of the people who do.
even though there are some really appealing opportunities out there, you JUST can't know what the previous owner did with the car, and how it was cared for.
hope you can get it sorted, and get yourself into a proper car
i don't buy used cars, and will never understand the mentality of the people who do
The flipside is that some people never buy new cars, and will never understand the mentality of people who do. Whether you pay in maintenance, or pay in depreciation, you still pay. But depreciation of a new car is pretty much unavoidable; careful inspection while shopping can help avoid these extreme maintenance horror stories.
Consider the posts in the GT2/GT3 forum stating "my car lost $60,000 in value over the last two years." There are more than a few unhappy GT2 owners. But what did they expect? New cars plummet in value the first 2-3 years.
I've done both (bought new and used). The more costly approach by far was buying new. This sort of horror story is unfortunate, but thankfully it's also unusual.
What does all this shrill talk of repairs prove? Everytime I see an exotic car in a non-manufacturers yard I NEVER stop and look at it. What it is telling you is obvious. Its either been picked up at an auction or its a trade-in. However, as with everything, there are exceptions. Some dealers, reputable ones, present exotic luxury cars only and these cars are thoroughly checked. This was not the case in Bob's situation.Seeing a Porsche at a Ford dealer would set alarm bells ringing..agreed? Not checking on the service/repair history is another cardinal error. Yet this is all blithely swept away in a welter of blatherings about Porsche this and Porsche that. You cannot assume, I repeat, you cannot assume that because its a Porsche, wherever you may find it, that its ok WITHOUT checking. What do you expect Porsche to do? Bob? The owner(s) of the car are to blame NOT Porsche, either as a manufacturer or a service facility. You keep making the point its not a money issue.Let this be a lesson to you.. A fool and his money are soon parted.
As said, this porsche was supposed to be the first vehicle at their new exotic car lot for the car dealer... one month after I purchased the vehicle, they had ferraris, lambos, porsche twin turbos, etc...
The car had full inspection and passed with flying colors by an independant porsche repair faculty before purchased. And then when my car was brought in to an authorized porsche dealer, they also indicated the car is in excellent condition with nothing they could find working incorrectly, yet it keeps breaking down every time it's driven....
Porsche isn't to blame when I've been through 3 rebuilt engines in 1,000 miles? due to the cylinder sleeve coming out of it's lining, a rod breaking through the core of the engine, a head gasket leaking? All of these are internal engine problems, as verified by an authorized porsche dealer and there was nothing I could have done or not done to prevent it from happening. They were defected parts, and as said previously, porsche refused to work with me at all, and refused to give any type of discount on labor or parts of any kind whatsoever when brought to their dealerships...
Since almost every part in the vehicle has been replaced with new parts, and the new parts keep failing, then why would this be the previous owners mistake?
Looking at the service history, the owner brought it in for all scheduled maintenance at an authorized porsche dealer, and all of the problems the vehicle had which appeared in the service records, appeared to be porsche related internal faults, starting at only a few hundred miles after the lemon was purchased... The original owner paid over $110,000 for the car adding in all the costs, including full leather, wood trim, etc... and the car came completely 100% stock when purchased... Most people when buying $25,000 in options, especially ones that spend $15,000 on leather and wood trim (and a cab), aren't ones to auto-ex or abuse their vehicles more than likely...
porsche should have replaced the car in the first place, instead of letting it continue to break down week after week... which explains why he obviously got rid of it as soon as the warranty ran out...
Money is an issue for everyone... I say it's not a primary concern in my life, but if I have to spend $40,000 every 1,000 miles for maintenance, and I can't even drive from home to the park without a tow truck following me, and 100s of hours of lost time and stress for every 1,000 miles, and having my safety endangered countless times, I think you would agree with me, that this is not simply the fault of the previous owner of the vehicle..
it's an auction car, which is most every car you will find at an exotic or luxury car lot is, as well.. yes it was a ford dealership, but what if they sent it to their exotic car lot a month later and I purchased it from there. Would that have really made any difference in terms of the problems i've had if it was parked next to a ferrari modena convertible?
Moogle,
Not everyone has or wants to drop 150K on a new car when they can get that same car for significantly less. Used cars are a little bit of a gamble, but there are new car lemons as well. So far, my pre-owned porsche is performing better than my fathers brand new mercedes. In performing, I mean fewer problems. Further, just because a car is used means nothing. I want to purchase a 993 in a few years, point me in the direction of a new one and I'll take steps to buying it!!! All you can do is hope for the best.

Buy Porsche from a used car Ford Dealer, guess they gave you the famous off the driveway warranty, car brakes at 300 mi, and no goodwill, now thats not a place to buy any vehicle..
Your tale of woe is truly amazing, and it seems that you have the means to keep throwing good money after bad...Perhaps you should cut your losses short and trade it in on perhaps, a new 996 or 997.
If you actually took money out of your pocket to buy a Porsche part from a dealer than you are covered for two years or unlimited mileage. If they replaced a part under warranty and then your mfg warranty expires a day later their contract with you is over the next day. It sounds like you paid for all your work the first time and it was well within the two year window when things started going wrong again. Question why did they not cover the issues they supposedly took care of the first time?
Dude,
What possesed you to buy a '99 car from a Ford dealers used car lot?
Personally, I ONLY buy new cars, but if I did get a used p-car it would ONLY be from a Porsche dealer and would have to be a Porsche certified pre-owned car w/ warranty. I'm not trying to be a smartass, but you really should have known better. Your only hope now is to sell it as is or fix it as cheaply as possible and trade it in or unload it somewhere. Man, I feel for you, but I don't think Porsche AG is not responsible for any of this. You just got an abused car off a Ford UC lot that was probably obtained at auction. The thing has obviously had the **** run out of it before you got it. Good luck, I mean it.
Chris
Cylinder sleeve out of the linning, 3 engines ??? Someone is not giving us the whole story. as far as I can tell, 996 engines dont have a cylinder linning, Its cast into the engine half. This guys been on renlist less than a month and is WAY too calm about all this. I would be going off the deep end. There is a 2 year warranty on all parts from the dealer. I have a rebuilt engine for 2 years and its perfect. As far as receipts, this is the computer age, how many receipts do you want, what dealership and for what parts. I can do them all...
Good luck. The guys @ Barrier have always done a great job for me. They replaced my engine last week. It runs better then ever.
All parts are covered for two years. The part numbers will enable them to verify where they came from even if the repairs werre done at Park Place. Try to remain calm and talk with Jeff at Barrier(if you are in Seattle). He and his guys are great. I went throught 4 RMS, 2 IMS seal and a couple of other items before the new engine.
Again, good luck.
Alright already!
Bob, this board is not a ranting post nor a place to get your jollies. This has gone beyond beating a dead horse. That horse has decomposed and is rotten.
Troll or no troll, there isn't much more we can do for this guy. We've given him as much advise we can, probably more time than is deserved. I suggest we just ignore any further posts. The only response he deserves is a link to previous posts, then let the thread get burried by new threads.
Before anyone else responds to our "friend" Bob, read the following threads:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/167110-how-many-miles-on-your-996-with-original-engine.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/163430-2-blown-engines-and-37-000-in-repairs-in-less-than-1000-miles-on-my-99-996-a.html
Nothing constructive, all negative, doesn't respond to good advise other than to further diss the forum and his car. Let's just say, all together, "Goodbye, Bobporsche996".
Not to be an ***, but I think Bob is full of it. Look there is no way a car can blow up 3 engines unless someone does not put oil in it or over rev it to 9000RPM in neutral. Also the same goes for 2 trannies. Look I know mechanics can screw up, but they usually get it right the 2nd time arround. Also he would not be taking the repairs out of his pocket for an engine or tranny that blew in 1100 miles. Maybe its me as I know a lot about repairs on cars, but if you were doped on these repairs you must not be very knowledable. I think this is an urban legend as I have never heard of this problem in any other 996. If he was doped so easily, the same would happen on a Ford for this guy.
My car is at barrier porsche right now... had it towed there last night... everyone at barrier porsche is fully aware of my car and the problems I have had since I purchased it... everytime I call.. they know me by my car... anyways, i'll ask for jeff as well and see what he can do for me.. thanks for the advice...
In terms of all you critics... or disbelievers, you are entitled to believe what you want.... it really doesn't matter... I've posted receipts for everything, I've mentioned all the dealerships my car was at, is at, and people at those dealerships you can speak with that have worked on my car and know what a nightmare it has been, and anyone that wants to go to barrier porsche and see my car, sitting there with a brand new 3rd rebuilt engine that doesn't run, feel free...
in terms of the ford lot.. like I said previously, it's an auction car, as are many many porsche cars that are used, which i'm sure many of you own. What I question, is why it really matters if it was a ford lot or a mercedes lot? There were many bmws, mercedes, etc.. at the ford lot as well.. were those all guaranteed lemons as well? the ford lot, was simply one of the many marques that this dealer owned, including many higher end marques... it just happened to be on that lot when I found it online...
They don't sell certified 99 porsches as far as I'm aware... and with driving 2 to 3 thousand miles a year, how was I to anticipate all these problems in 1,000 miles of driving...
i'm not going to continue explaining myself over and over again... maybe one day you'll understand the frusteration when your engine goes out, and porsche is unwilling to assist you, and you have to fork out $12,000+ due to an internal engine fault not caused by you or the previous owner..... multiply that frusteration times 10....
anyways, i'll wait to monday and hope to sort this out.. i'm crossing my fingers that the tranny won't have to be replaced at my expense...
Yes,maybe, but they didnt have to pay for it. If you look at his receipt it says 12 month warranty on labor & parts. I suggest we let this fairy tale end. If we encourage this guy, this will go on and on. The P cars are not perfect and every model ever made had issues, thats the price of high performance.
Yes there is a 2 year replacement guarantee on the 3rd engine.. my first one when I bought it blew up while I was driving and thus made the core completely unusable when a rod came out through the core, the second one I purchased used with 9000 miles on it (a rebuilt), since the first core had to be replaced, I figured 1/2 the cost wouldn't be as bad as another one (a rebuilt), and the odds of a 9,000 mile engine going bad were pretty low... then 150 miles later... i'm on the third one.. I purchased the third engine so I would have the warranty for when it went bad a fourth time... so next time I wouldn't have to pay for it... and then on the way home from picking up the car after having the third engine installed the tranny went out and I had to have it towed to barrier porsche, where it sits right now... I truly wish it was all a fairly tale, but it's as nightmarish, frusterating, confusing and outlandish as it sounds unfortunately...
Why does everyone insist on not believing me, with all the facts i've shown? What else do you want me to do, have a notary public sign everything i've said thusfar infront of a judge?
Well, I just lost my tranny, which PCNA kindly replaced. It wasnt a crunch gear issue, just one of the shift forks came loose (Very interesting noise you get when you can select 2 gears at the same time). Anyway, before replacement the dealer prints out the DME history. I seemed to have over-reved once about 300 hours ago and hit the top RPM in the car 998 times . I do a lot of track time, which they obviously figured out. Despite this abuse (something you wouldnt do in your Toyota) the car runs great, doesnt leak oil or smoke. I had the clutch replaced (24k miles) since the car was apart and the old one probably had another good 10 to 15 k left on it.
Just what the heck are you guys doing to you P cars to break them??? I'm driving the crap out of it and so are about 6 other guys I drive with and the worst problem seems to the MAF dying every couple of years.
I think this post and probably the internet has become the hell it appears to be. Someone has a bad experience and its like gossip across the back yard fence, completelly out of control, unfair and untrue...
1/2 dozen RMS failures (VERY VERY rare) and 3 engine replacements (again, VERY VERY rare) did NOT occur over 1100 miles nor did they involve fire every time. something is bullschit with this story. No way all three motors were properly installed Porsche factory rebuilts.
The first fire was when the first engine blew up on the freeway on me... when the rod blew out the core, mixed coolant with oil, and the fire dept had to put the fire in the engine out after someone on the freeway apparently saw fire coming out of the exhaust and called the police... the second fire was when I was backing up into a parking space, all of a sudden smoke starting come out of the rear.. One of the coolant hoses had bursted for some reason which leaked coolant everywhere, which caused the second fire..
Regardless, there is SOME good news for me.. I just spoke with barrier porsche, and was told that the porsche dealer that installed the replacement engine most likely did not torque down the drive shaft properly (what that means exactly, I'm not exactly sure.. i'm a businessman, not a mechanic <g>), as he indicated it was hanging down when he went to look at it... which most likely caused the failure that happened last night...
I'll have to wait until Monday to find out... as the other dealership is closed for the weekend... regardless, I would expect the dealer that installed the replacement third engine will cover all these costs, if this is indeed the reality of the matter... (crossing my fingers)
Sorry to hear you have had so many pronblems in such a short period of time. I think that had I been on the receiving end of this saga, I would have given up long ago.
Several weeks ago I offered to buy some of the parts.....are you interested yet?
maybe it is time to cut your losses and let that dog lie!
The only situation I have ever heard of where a car (non Porsche) went through a few engines and trans that quickly was due the the fact that the car had been previously wrecked and the alignmant between the engine and the trans was off, thereby causing the problems. Remember, I'm no expert.
On another note, with the right lawyer and the right attitude (more important than the lawyer), I bet you can get Porsche to work out something acceptable to you. Just my .02 worth!
My question is.. after the first engine went, and maybe the second.. Why didnt you push the thing into a tree and have it written off..?
You would be way ahead by now if you had.. but since your story his horsesh!t.. thats why you didnt..
You claim to have provided proof.. but you havent..
Proof is...
1) all your receipts with the letterhead, phone numbers, and addresses of the shop and the VIN#.
2) a picture of your car and its VIN#.
3) the police and insurance reports for the fires (these would have been mandatory) with the VIN#
4) the towing report with car inspection sheets and the VIN#
5) the reports on diagnosis of the failures by the certified Porsche technicians, or did you have non-porsche certified mechanics working on it?
I agree with everything you posted, but there's a simplier test and it's called logic. Imagine if what Bob posted was true and it happened to you. Would you have taken the actions that he took and paid in repairs almost what he paid for the car? Also, if you were foolish enough to do it, would you want to advertise the fact all over the internet?
Travelling plenty and swamped. You guys as cold in PHX as we are? It is downright chilly right now! Not exactly CAB weather
As for my post to this thread. I give this thread and this joker's other thread, the big WHATEVER. I have never seen such a joke of a thread in my life not mention how many posts he gets--which I think is what he is really trying to do. This guy is guilty of scamming and wasting our time
Please everyone read the above statement. I have worked on cars for so many years and I have NEVER EVER SEEN COOLANT CAUSE A FIRE!!!!!
Thus this guy is making up BS. This guy is so full of it.
All I have to say is that you disbelievers are the most rude individuals I have ever come across.
My transmission will need to be replaced as I indicated, as when the third engine was installed, apparently they forgot to torque down the half shaft properly, which resulted in a hole being made through the bell housing of the transmission on my drive home. I'm not quite sure as to how or what this means, as I'm not very technical when it comes to vehicles.. simply taking the wording from the porsche tech at barrier porsche.. I am assuming/hoping the dealer that installed the engine will pay for this, and have not mentioned the dealer name that did the work, for obvious reasons.
As said, I will be talking with a lawyer relating to all of this, and through this, I will be calling the police department to have records I can pick up of the two times the fire department was called and when they put my car out when it was on fire.
I will also be posting the transmission replacement paperwork as well, for all you disbelievers.
All I can say is, having been through the crap I have been through with this car and being told I am making it all up, a bser, a moron, etc... even after posting over $30,000 in receipts for the work i've had done, indicating who to talk to at certain dealerships to indicate all the issues i've had with this vehicle, and everything else to back up my story, seeing what fellow 996 owners have to say about me is truly disheartening.
I've always wanted a 996, and didn't want this to happen to me.. I just wanted to truly enjoy the vehicle... unfortunately it hasn't let me do that and i've been more than upset with all of it... considering I have barely had a chance to drive it...
Some of you need to grow up and realize that incidents like this do happen. As soon as all the work is done, and my transmission is replaced, I will gladly post all receipts, including copies with the dates of all 3 engines within 1100 miles, along with the new transmission, the fire department reports for the two fires, and everything else relating to the tens of thousands of dollars i've spent on other problems i've had with this vehicle in the short time period i've had it...
All I can say is, that many of you should be ashamed of yourself. Do you honestly think if I was making this up, I would go to a porsche dealership, ask them for someone else's service records (which they would never give me), take out my digital camera, and then take pictures of all the receipts?
I'm not here to throw around the words that many of you all have. Yes I purchased the vehicle from a ford lot. So? What if it was on the same dealer's Mercedes lot, or their exotic car lot, which has ferraris and bentleys? Would that make any difference, as to all the problems I have had?
Anyways, i'm not going to waste any additional time on this for now, I have enough problems on my plate with this vehicle. If you don't want to believe it, that is fine, but calling someone a moron, or a "bser" due to your own personal beliefs, without even knowing me, my car, or my story, truly makes me embaressed to be a porsche owner that shares the same vehicle as some of you.
To all those that have been supportive, it is much appreciated. It is quite frusterating what i've been through, and although I have vented quite a bit at times, I would think anyone that has been through what I have in the short time i've had this vehicle would be feeling the same...
I've already posted $30,000 in receipts, including the $12,000 receipt for my third engine posted a few days ago with the date on it (I already posted the receipts for the previous engines), but apparently that isn't sufficient... (I apparently stole someone else's paperwork, or made it myself in a graphics program... sigh...)
When all the paperwork is compiled within the next week for the $40,000 in maintenance work within the past couple of months, along with the 2 fire department reports, I will be glad to scan it in, post it all, with date stamps, my vin, etc.. and I will make sure to mention all the names of the individuals that have called me a moron, a bser, in my posts, and I'm curious as to see what you disbelievers have to say then..
On that note... I must tend back to work for now... for all those that have been understanding, thanks again, it is appreciated, through this frustering ordeal.. wish me luck...
PS: On a personal note, i'd like to thank Mike, who has helped me, answering many of my questions, and offering his assistance to me via email...
Yup, starting to rain here in Ohio. Maybe not as balmy as Phoenix, but, man, that rain can be freezing.
Dunno what I'll do in the next several weeks. Cant quite decide when to put the car in for storage. Everytime I go down to the garage, I somehow still end up the Porsche car keys rather than my "other" car.
Don't you all find it hard to put the Porsche keys down? When do you make it a point to store thye car? How do you get to that point?
Hi Bob!
Let me as an outsider (non-996 owner) shed some unbiased insight on your situation!
A: It doesn't seem that anyone is doubting your claims about engine and tranny problems. I think everyone believes that you did have the problems you are talking about. I think what may be painful for you to hear, is that many people jump to the conclusion that YOU must be the cause of the problems. Now,
I
am not going to make that assumption - BUT you have to admit, it sounds mighty suspicous when a person goes through three engines! There is no way Porsche sent your mechanics 3 faulty engines. no way.
B: What is wrong with buying a Porsche from a Ford dealership? Nothing. SERVICING your Porsche at a Ford dealer, on the other hand, is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ISSUE. IIRC it was stated that this dealership was an proper Porsche dealer, correct? If that is the case, perhaps the mechanics are to blame! They should know how to follow Porsche Shop manuals! If they DO NOT work on Porsches regularly, you should have known better than to service your Porsche there!!!!!
C: Look at it from Porsche's perspective. They build thousands of these cars, and few if any have the kind of problems you have had. In many cases, the driver is to blame. (over-revving, grinding gears, etc) I some cases, it's a shop providing shoddy service. Porsche would be right to deny liability - especially when the warranty has expired!!!!!!!!!
D: You must FIRST establish WHY the car had these failures. Who's fault was it. Can you prove it was a mis-installation by the dealer? Can you prove they were defective parts from the Manufacturer? I'm not familiar with lemon laws in your state, so I guess a lawyer is important - but I would still talk to a different dealer or Porsche specialist and get a second, third and fourth opinion.
I'm sorry some of us treated you so harshly, but that is what people get when they bash Porsche on a Porsche forum!!!
I know, it's not an excuse, but it's the truth.
Maybe you should buy a 944 turbo - we're super friendly over on the 944 boards, and we'll give you pointers on how to fix the car yourself, so you don't have to put your mechanic's children thru college!
Hi Rich,
Thanks for being civil about the matter... I understand why many people cannot believe this happening, to a car to they themselves own, or many of them not wanting to believe it for fear of it happening to them... regardless, that's understandable.. I just find it truly insulting to be called a "jackass" for indicating exactly what has happened with my vehicle, when I have driven the vehicle very lightly, as I have over 20 other vehicles, and never encountered anything such as I have with this one..
As said before, when I purchased the car at 49,000 miles, a few hundred miles later, while on the freeway at 70mph driving in 4th casually with the other traffic, without warning, a huge plume of smoke started to come out of the rear.. Through inspection, the first engine blew a rod through the core, which threw oil and coolant everywhere, which somehow caused a fire.. how, I don't know, like I said previously, i'm not too technical when it comes to cars. I'm just indicating what I saw. Someone on the freeway must have seen the fire and called 911 and the next thing I knew the fire department was there to put my vehicle out...
Since my core was no good, I had no core credit, and to avoid having to spend another $20,000, after having just bought the car and already investing countless thousands in maintenance, I then purchased an excellent condition rebuilt engine with 9,000 miles on it (verified from the service history of the vehicle it came from, installed at an authorized porsche dealer), from a theft recovery 996. Within a few hundred miles, upon bringing it in for inspection after the second fire when I was backing up into a parking lot.. (when one of the coolant hoses broke, which caused the second fire. How I don't know, like I said, i'm not too technical.. I just know I had to have my vehicle put out by the fire department again) I was notified my head gasket was leaking, and upon inspection by a porsche dealer, was also notified most likely a cylinder had come out of it's sleeve lining, and the engine would need to be replaced.
So that is when I decided to simply purchase the third engine, directly from porsche, through a porsche authorized service center, so I would have the two year warranty. And on the way home after having my third engine installed, is when my transmission went out, and I had to have it towed to barrier porsche.. and here I am...
All the work was done at Park Place Ltd, an exotic car service faculilty. They work on lotuses, ferraris, bentleys, and are the largest used porsche sales and service station in the pacific northwest. I would NEVER bring my car into ford for service. I bought the car there, and never went back since.
According to all of the mechanics I have brought it to, including authorized porsche dealers, many if not most of the problems I have had, have all been internal faults from porsche parts. A cylinder coming out of it's sleeve lining, head gasket leaking, rod breaking through core, etc... and quote on quote, they have indicated, there is NOTHING I could have done to prevent or cause this from happening... but since my vehicle was out of warranty.. I would have to pay for the repairs out of my own pocket, and there was nothing they could do to assist me because the vehicle was out of warranty..
I have owned over 20 vehicles in the past, and I have never ever had to replace an engine, a transmission or any other major part... I know how to drive a vehicle, and have never abused any of my vehicles... Unfortunately I have had the worst of luck, and don't know where to go.. as everyone but a select few seems against me... It truly is an isolating and frusterating experience all i've been through...
Like I said, I can understand those that do not believe all this could happen in a short amount of time.. that is fine, all are entitled to their own opinion. But calling me a "jackass, or a moron, and other various names" really is uncalled for... all I asked for when I purchased this vehicle, was a fun convertible to have for the summer.... I never ever in a million years expected this nightmare... Porsche hasn't been willing to help me, and I came to this forum hoping someone knew someone or something could be done to help me out with this nightmare vehicle on my hands... and it seems all I've been met with are a multitude of individuals calling me horrid names and telling me i'm full of sh*t... truly disheartening indeed...
If anyone has any suggestions, or advice, i'm always open to it, but negative comments really are not needed... I've been through enough already with this vehicle.. and if you choose not to believe me, that is fine as said, but calling me names, without even knowing me or my situation is really uncalled for...

So you admit that you are wasting our time? I think it is time for you to go bye-bye. Come back when you can post something worth the server space it occupies.

will hit you up when we are back out in december!!
Bob -
I still believe what you're going through is very real and very frustrating.
There are poor idiots on this board who have spent their last dime or taken huge loans to own/lease a 996. They don't understand that most people with deep pockets got that way by making smart financial decisions throughout their lives - long before they bought an expensive, depreciating asset like a new Porsche. (And the truely stupid wonder why their 2004 996 isn't going up in value -- because they aren't making them anymore!) To them it is a contradiction that you can have $100,000 to spend on a toy, yet decided to part with half that to get nearly the same thrill. It is the same with repairs. Just because you can afford $10K+ for a new engine (and repeat 3 times) doesn't mean that you want to spend it or are happy about it. You always want to believe that the last bill is...the last bill. So you pay.
That said, will you take some friendly advice? Everyone knows by now how pissed you are (justifiably so), yet may I suggest that your future posts only be about the status of your vehicle repairs, or asking for advice on how to proceed with some new info? Leave the rant to the archives for those who want to search for it. If you went to a really fun party with people you didn't know and saw someone carrying on this way you wouldn't be surprised to see him standing alone in the corner later in the evening, would you? And one more thing, ignore the people who are demanding to see your receipts. They aren't going to help you even after you supply the proof, and if they don't want to hear from you, they should go to
https://rennlist.com/forums/profile.php?do=editlist
and type your user name in the "ignore" list.
<sorry - lecture mode is now off>
Hi Red,
Thanks for understanding me and realizing just because I put out this money in repairs, the reasoning for "If I had that money, I should have bought a new one, or paid $150 an hour for repairs, or paid $30k more for a certified one from porsche, if I had so much money" is quite a ridiculous statement. Like you said, I got where I am with business by making smart financial decisions. Unfortunately this wasn't one of them, but I have learned alot through this all...
Like you said, i'm sure many of these people that made these comments are deathly afraid of having to pay $15,000+ to have their engine, transmission, etc... be replaced.. and/or are afraid that posts like mine ,will decrease the resale value of their cars, etc... from future 996 owners doing research on the internet... etc..
unfortunately there is no tell tale sign when the engine will go out on you or precaution you can take... with the 996 from what I have seen from others... it just randomly goes out with all the research i've done since this happened to me.. which is quite scary, considering, every drive can end up costing $15,000+, with no indication.. and is why I opted for purchasing one with the 2 year warranty for my 3rd engine..
here are some quotes, all from different individuals from one single thread, I found on a 996 forum, regarding engines... quite disheartening to say the least... I suppose one has to go through an engine failuire not caused by them, and have to shell out $15,000+ of to truly understand how frusterating and unaccomodating porsche is to them out of warranty, it is... and how even more upsetting when it happens again... until then for them, I suppose the disbelievers can continue to cuss me out indicating how much of a moron I am.... and that it's all my fault...
some quotes from a thread on the 911uk.com forum about engines...
----------
I guess they can try but they would have to try and explain as to why a 80k car that has been fully serviced by an OPC fails at less than 13% of its published designed mileage due to a part that is not a wear and tear item. Further this part has never been touched by anybody other than the Porsche. In my case if this part had failed while i was driving at motorway speeds then it would have resulted in injury both myself and others (ask anyone what happens if a connecting rod snaps at 80mph!)
------------
You then get further infuriated by the fact that you are now listening to a recorded message read out by a gimp on the end of the phone who does not wish to listen to any logical argument. in what other field do you have the situation where you hand over 10's of thousands of pounds then get told the item that you have bought has failed due to no fault of your own.
-------------
Last November my (wife's) 1998 996 C2 Cab, with 40,000 miles on the clock, two sensible owners and a full OPC service history, needed a new engine after a crank case cracked.
-------------
I started the thread in the 911uk.com forum after my car failed at 30k.
--------------
My engine failed, without warning and without being driven aggresively; the cause was subsequently discovered to be 3 split liners on one side of the engine....with no good reason for it occuring.
In the space of 5 weeks or so, I have read reports of at least 5 996/986 engines failing on other Porsche forums...aux drive shaft bearing failure, liners moving and my "split liners"
---------------
I have also had 30,000mile 1999 996 c2 triptronic blow up on me the other day.
The car was bought new from Porsche center(Stratstone, wilmslow) and was maintained and serviced by them. The last service was 1 month ago.
The car had only been driven 6 days since the service, when clouds of white smoke came from one of the exhausts and it died on me! There were no waring lights, the car has never been driven hard (its anautomatic!), never raced and looked after.
---------------
sounds like a similar problem to what i suffered with my '01 996 - in my case the intermediate shaft snapped, sending debris around the engine and screwing it big time. this on a three year old, 16k miles car. check the thread...
--------------
I also had the same problem with my 1998 996 after 22,000 miles again from Stratstones of Wilmslow. I had bought a warranty which covered the cost of the replacement engine but this I believe was paid for by Porsche GB. At the time there was total denial of any previously known problems with this type of engine. There seems to be a culture of secrecy and lack of openness.
--------------
Check the latest issue of Excellence. Story about 1999 996 that broke timing belt (and wrecked engine) at 27K miles.
------------
If they cant even get right what car i own what chance have we got of geting any decent answers? May be Alessandro is right may be the next time i get a letter i will be asked if my polo needs a new engine!! The one thing i have to say at least vw group cars as far i know dont fail with 30k on the clock.
------------
I spoke to a mate last night who knows someone with an S plate 996 that had the engine blow up on him soon after he bought it - he has just spent 9000 on having another one fitted!
Porsche are disgraceful - I can't believe they are getting away with this!!
-----------
Its from a US mag that had its 996 C2 loose its engine at 6K.
-----------
Remember I bought the car with 10k miles at 22 months old and kept if for 8 months. The list of problems includes:
Complete engine replacement (following implossion after one week of ownership)
--------------
the porsche attitude towards my 15k, 2 and a half year old model was nothing short of despicable when the engine imploded, the customer service department at reading a hotbed of disinformation and dissembling, something i'd be happy to take to court with them any day.
--------------
I'll join the list of 996 owners with expired engines.
--------------
My C4 996 also needed a new engin at 16K miles!!!! 3 years old quoatation 9,750
-----------------
Was in my local OPC the other day and guess what - another engine problem - the mechanic wouldn't elaborate but he confirmed it needed a NEW ENGINE!!! It was a 2003 C2 Cab!!!
-----------------
Etc.. etc.. and this is only from one thread in the UK... quite disheartening.. One individual even took a picture of a dealership that had 22 996 engines out back waiting to be picked up by, all that had to be replaced...
so make believing it's not true or couldn't happen, makes them feel more stable... if anything, i'd think my posts should be appreciated in this forum, for people to really consider an extended warranty, or to maybe purchase a 996 that has a warranty, instead of one out of warranty, just to save a few thousand dollars..
With four vehicles, and driving this one for only a 2-3 months a year and 2-3k miles a year, I simply wanted a convertible toy for summer... and not throw away an extra $20,000 a year in depreciation in doing so... unfortunately now that time has passed, and I wasn't able to enjoy it...
regardless, the times I did have my 996 cab drivable, I must say, of all the cars I've owned, they were the most enjoyable times i've ever had in a vehicle. I don't think anything can compare to a porsche, even though each marque has it's own positive qualities...
I wasn't going to post any additional replies to my post, and I must apologize for the second thread I started, I was just so frusterated, that after finally getting my car back after having a third engine installed, and not having the car for a month, having the transmission go out on me on the way home, leaving me stuck on the freeway during rush hour, causing everyone to honk at me for slowing down traffic... I've of course calmed down since then... but i'm sure one can imagine themselves in my shoes after all i've been through.. that I was more than a bit peeved at the "porsche experience" when I got home... and I needed some place to vent...
As I saw the response I was receiving, criticizing me, calling me a moron, a jackass, a bser, full of sh*t, and other such terms in this post and various other rennlist posts referring to me and my "untrue story" I felt I had to say something again to back up my experiences i've had with this vehicle.
I suppose there will always be disbelievers, regardless if I post all my receipts, even including the fire department reports, list all the dealerships it's been too.. someone will blame it on me, or the previous owner, or ford, etc... and I accept that...
I came to the forum for help or assistance, maybe legal advice, or something I could do... and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs... but to see some of the comments my fellow 996 owners have made about me is truly disheartening... no other forum for any other car I have owned, has acted in such a manner about a fellow owner of their marque..
There's no more ranting.. if anything else happens with my vehicle, i'll keep it to myself... I would just appreciate some respect from a fellow 996 owner.. I have always loved porsche, and no car can ever duplicate it's driving experience... but after what i've been through with this vehicle, reading about the negligence of porsche with the 996 and it's flaws it refuses to acknowledge, my experience with porsche north america, various dealerships, and the comments by some on this forum... one can say, I truly don't feel the same way about porsche as I used to...
I'm not quite sure... All I know is I was backing up into a parking space, and the next thing I knew there was fire coming out from the engine compartment.. opened up the engine hood and the coolant was spewing out... maybe it happened while I was driving and ignited while I put it in reverse? Not quite sure...
Wow this is amazing - the thread is still going!!
Oh well, might as well join in:
I think that aside from offering sympathy to Bob for his misfortune, the main issue which this brings up for me is: Should Porsche be stepping up to deal with this? I have to say no - they offered a warranty and I assume they took care of the car while it was under warranty. I agree that it would be a huge show of good faith and they would score big points with many Porsche owners if they offered to help in situations like these, but it's not a requirement. If the original owner had this many problems from day 1, he should have had it dealt with (maybe replaced?) while under warranty. I don't think you could get anything from Ford, for example 3 years after warranty expiry.
I think Porsche's biggest problem is that they don't know how the car has been treated over the years. I do believe that if you could get hard physical evidence (not just a mechanic's opinion) that their original equipment was faulty from the factory, your case woudl have much more merit.
I keep trying to put the information on this board about 996 problems into perspective. I wonder how statistically accurate the polls (like RMS) are. I try not to let it all ruin my experience of my so-far trouble free car. I think that there area lot out there like mine, at least I want to believe that. The recent article in Panorama supports my belief that the 996's are no better or worse than any other model.
Good luck to all!
Well the main consideration when it comes to warranty is.. in 1998/99 when people purchased these brand new cars with 4 year warranties, they had no idea that all of these internal faults not caused by themselves would happen, and/or most likely assumed to buy another car or a newer model by then... Usually people with high end sports cars, always like the newest and hottest model.. so one must factor many extended warranties were not originally purchased for this reason.. Also not many extended warranties were purchased most likely, due to porsche's bullet-proof reputation with the 993s...
It was only after years of driving, would the owners of the 99s, 00s and 01s become aware of any failures, in which the warranty issue would play a huge factor, and by then.. it was too late...
I should have taken into consideration why my car was for sale at 49k miles.. makes perfect sense now.. the warranty expires at 50k miles, and the previous owner wanted to get rid of it, to avoid what happened to me...
Maybe something for others to consider when purchasing their 996, to look at the date of purchase, mileage, and this may be indicitive if the owner is selling it for purposes of having trouble with the vehicle, and wanting to "Get rid of it" before the warranty ends? or selling it for some other reason, if there is still plenty of mileage and years left on the warranty/extended warranty..
personally i'd stay away from a 99-00 with 40k+ miles and a non extended warranty for example... a late 02 with low mileage is probably the best buy, considering the face lift, or an older model with an extended warranty bought originally... just my 2 cents.. (trying to contribute instead of ranting for once
after what i've gone through, i will never buy a car without a warranty again..... live and learn...
"they had no idea that all of these internal faults not caused by themselves would happen"-not caused by themselves? How do you know this Bob?
"It was only after years of driving, would the owners of the 99s, 00s and 01s become aware of any failures" Again another stupid statement. You didn't check Bob!! Please stop all this sycophantic babble with people who seem to agree with without you telling them the whole story.BOB YOU DIDN'T CHECK THE HISTORY OF THE CAR!!! Stop trying to create a braindead scenario that all of us have this ticking time-bomb ready to explode in our cars. You need serious help Bob and I don't mean for your car!!!
Munro,
I'm not talking just about my vehicle. I'm talking about known internal fault problems such as the RMS problem (which I did not have, yet), the internal engines problems which caused them to implode, explode, etc. due to no actions of the owner, as quoted by porsche dealer techs (which are well documents and admitted by porsche dealers as internal faults, but are unwilling to assist out of warranty owners with), the coolant box faults, etc...
Any other marque that has the smallest thing go wrong due to faulty manufacturing, later to be found on 1 out of 1,000,000 vehicles, and they recall "all of them".
With porsche, when something goes wrong on hundreds of thousands of their vehicles that they know is a manufacturing fault, (ex: rms leak, engines, coolant boxes, etc..) and they do nothing but charge the unfortunate victims that encounter it, for it.... I never understood that philosophy.. well being a businessman I do.. but you would expect, it sets them up for quite a lawsuit..
Your name indicated munro86, which makes me think you are 18 years old. Do you even have a porsche 996? You have constantly been on my back ever since my first post. You have said nothing that could possibly help anyone in this forum out, just constant bickering about my posts, and yet you criticize me about me bickering in my posts... how are you helping or contributing to anything with your negative statements...
"With porsche, when something goes wrong on hundreds of thousands of their vehicles"
has porsche even made "hundreds of thousands" of vehicles cummulatively in the decades of their existence? have they even make a hundred thousand 996s yet?
is this sort of embellishment a common element of your posts?
I'm pretty sure porsche has developed more than a few hundred thousand cars worldwide, keep in mind the boxster (which has suffered it's own fair share of problems, as most anyone in this forum knows.. around for almost 10 years now..) with it's fair share worldwide... anyone have any numbers of boxsters and 996s on the road worldwide?
Good news for me though today.. the porsche dealer decided to comp me a brand new replacement transmission for free, which is definately nice. So I guess not all porsche dealers are that bad
Since the transmission core had a hole in it, it would have been $10,000+ otherwise most likely.. ...ouch... thank you porsche, for once... :>
..and then when I get the car back, it's extended warranty time, on the same day I get it back... still hoping that i'll be able to enjoy this car.. one day :I
RR and Munro are right. You should have been much more careful.
Never buy an auction car.
Get a PPI.
There is no such thing as a good deal on a used car lot.(Unless it's porsche certified)
.......
Your research here approximates that of your used car buying DD. The Boxster has been around almost 10 years now? Is that kind of like you spending $40k on 3 motors and 2 trannies in 1100 miles? Incidentally, the Boxster does not have the motor you claim to have gone through 3 of in 1100 miles. The 996 has been in production since 98. Has your nose grown any since you started posting here?
I have not gone through three motors, I am on my third engine, and my second transmission in 1,100 miles.. and this time it has a 2 year warranty, so the next time if the engine blows or needs replacement, porsche will be picking up the tab.. the 986 motor does indeed have identical problems, if not worse problems than the 996 motor.. especially when it comes to rms... check their forum to see this for yourself the problems many boxster owners have encountered, especially with the older models... As said, i'm not just talking about the 996, i'm referring to the boxster as well, which as far as I am aware was released in europe in late 1995, and those have sold worldwide like wildfire compared to the 996...
And thanks for the question about my nose, but no, it has remained the same
Bob, an angle on this that I'd like to throw in here: I've been watching reports on Park Place for 10+ years now, and I'd never, ever buy a car from them much less have them service it. I can provide several well documented nightmares from co-workers. Yours isn't the first, and isn't even close to the nastiest.
So, lessons learned I guess. I'm sorry to hear you went through this, and was a bit freaked until I heard the name of the dealer you're working with.
I've had great results so far w/Barrier service; my hope is that they can get you pointed down the road of happier Porsche ownership.
Let's also distill this a bit for simplicities sake:
<nah, let's not. nuked because I'd mis-interpreted the 2000+ posts on the subject and got the story wrong>
I'd be mildly irritated that a gamble I took on a used 996 resulted in 1 blown engine
I'd be pissed as hell about <nuked, let's call it "shop in question> bleeding my wallet dry using substandard parts and poor workmanship
Just my $.02
If you want to deal with a shop other than Barrier in the area, go to Squires.
Thanks for that root cause analysis of this very long thread. I think you got it right. There's enough crap being spewed about Porsche without scaring new prospects unnecessarily. Same thing is going on in the 993 forum.
As the neighbors just north of you would say about this case- what a hoser!
actually you are very incorrect
a) i bought the car from a used lot, not park place (way overpriced there), it is an auction vehicle.
b) engine blew the first time and brought it to park place to have the used rebuilt engine from a porsche theft recovery vehicle that I found and had shipped for them to install, that had 9k miles on it (theft recovery vehicle)..
upon inspection by barrier porsche the head gasket started to leak after 150 miles on the 9000 mile rebuilt engine and one of the cylinders had come out of the sleeve lining, so the second engine would have to be replaced
c) an authorized porsche dealer installed the third engine, an authorized porsche rebuilt engine (which I will not be naming, since they are now paying for my new transmission due to not tightening the half shaft down when doing so, and will not name until it is all done and paid for.)
d) tranny blows due to faulty work at authorized porsche dealership, now car is at barrier porsche having the new tranny installed.
Before you put words in my mouth, I think it would be best to ask me first, as you had it completely incorrect. Park Place did all the other work, that amounted to be $10k.. all the little things, that started to add up.. such as the coolant hoses, starter going bad, radiator, srs air bag light, oil changes, etc.. and i had no problems with any of the work they did.. nor did any of the parts fail that they installed... due to negligence or faulty work.. with the exception of the second engine, which was beyond their control and an internal fault of the engine. Although i should have bought a rebuilt engine the second time, I didn't have a core, since the rod blew through the core, and it would have costed $15,000+ to replace the engine if it was new.. I figured, for half the price, a 9,000 mile rebuilt engine would be sufficient for my 2-3k miles a year driving, not anticipating a 9,000 mile rebuilt engine going completely bad on me in such a short time... it worked great for 150 miles... then all of a sudden, imploded essentially...
brought it to squires.. they refused to work on my car because the second engine was in such bad shape that they said it had to be replaced and there was nothing I could do... and that it was an internal fault within the engine that I didn't cause, or was not at fault at, and that there was nothing they could do for me, other than replace the engine.
So, no it is not the root cause analysis of this very long thread. I appreciate you putting words in my mouth pretending like you know the truth of the matter, but no, your basis and words are completely untrue.
in terms of calling me a "hoser", you are listening to a completely 100% incorrect and false story..
Sigh, oh well. I was simply trying to separate
a) faulty porsche parts from
b) parts that were questionable to begin with (rebuilt parts), from
b) faulty service work
Although PP may not have had much to do with this, I'd still hold that you had a total of ONE engine failure that's relevant. The second engine failure, and the tranny failure, can both easily be argued to be either a) quality of the replacement part used (engine) or b) the quality of the workmanship (tranny).
Again, sorry that you had the first engine failure, the rest is just a cluster f&@k of poor quality parts and workmanship (IMHO, of course)
I'll let you go back to the completely unproductive spew-fest.
there really is no need to continue this thread, as i do agree with what everyone has said previously about ending it...... I just wish people would stop putting words in my mouth, or calling me a moron or a jackass, a bull****ter or blaming me for buying a "non certified 99 porsche" when they don't even exist... and being a "dumbass" for not knowing the original owner of the vehicle... (99 certified porsche? where can I get one?)
the fact is, what happened happened... am i upset about it.. yes... is it a lesson, that it could potentialy happen to you? maybe... realistically? no... it is a rare experience in such a short time period... regardless.. if you believe me or not.. take my experience as you wish... maybe somebody will buy an extended warranty from my post, and have their engine go out 3 months later, and have saved $15,000... and thank me.. maybe not...
regardless.. if you would all quit bashing me, for the experiences i've had, this thread would indeed stop... some of you out there are like the individuals that believed the holocaust never happened... and that something like this couldn't happen... well it did... take it as you will, but calling me a moron, a hoser, a jackass, and the other various words I have been called after all the crap I have been through with this vehicle in only 1,100 miles of owning it, is quite infuriating and upsetting... being a fellow 996 owner... remember I didn't buy a 996 because I disliked it.. that wouldn't make much sense, now would it...
I haven't argued with anyone directly, I am simply sharing my experiences with others, potential future 996 owners or current owners, that will hopefully come away from this thread with the fact of how important a warranty can be, and how one is treated by porsche north america when they are out of warranty when a catastrophy of this nature happens... there really isn't much more to say... so instead of calling me a "moron" or these other mature words of sophistication (note the sarcasm), why not just end it.. as said, I will stop posting any problems with my vehicle... as i've seen the response... just take what I said as you wish... if you don't want to believe it fine.. if you do.. fine... i I don't understand the need to cuss out a fellow 996 owner that has had a nightmare experience already, that simply wanted to enjoy the vehicle he purchased and become a fellow porsche owner and be able to enjoy his vehicle...
on that note.. i'm off to take a nap.. been a long day... take care all...
" some of you out there are like the individuals that believed the holocaust never happened"
THATS IT!!! YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. HOW DARE YOU DRAW AN ANALOGY WITH THE HOLOCAUST...YOU ARE A SICK INDIVIDUAL!!!!
I was simply referencing that there are some ignorant individuals out there that believe the holocaust never could have happened, even with all the facts laid out there about it... (referencing how I couldn't have had two faulty porsche engines, when it has happened to countless individuals...) it's amazing how many people really do not believe it happened, which I myself find quite insulting, as I lost several relatives in the holocaust...
before you criticize, maybe you should read into what an individual says first... before calling them a "MORON OF THE HIGHEST ORDER" in terms of your quote... talk about opening a can of worms.. aren't you one of the individuals wanting to end this thread?
anyways, i'm off to bed... night already...
You might want to try

if you have a serious case. They can assist you and give you advice. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the 996. To me sounds like you were taking advantage of by some mechanics.
Reading through all the posts and comments for the first time (!) it sounds like a series of unfortunate events:
- low oil level on the first engine combined with improper/lack of maintenance
- screwing up at Park Place with the install on both the second engine (water hose) and transmission side (I heard lots of horror stories from a good friend of mine who is in the car business)
Hey, I bought my 996 used at a VW dealer. Oh sh*t! Nah, it's a fine auto and it now has 54k miles. The only thing I knew was that at 60k I would have to flip about $1,200 for maintenance, and it has a notchy first gear which they're going to take care of. Otherwise, couldn't be happier with it. Sorry to hear of your problems.
All I can say is, don't take a car to Park Place. I don't know how many times I took my C4S (and before that a '95 993) to Park Place and they said the service/repair/work was done only to find out it wasn't, either on my way home or a day or two later.
Sorry to hear of these problems! With those kind of losses and problems I would definetly be in contact with a lawyer and put your selling dealer and the repair facility on notice. Afterall, if you don't have a lemon then what the heck is a lemon law for???
BTW, was the car still under the 48/50 new car warranty when you bought it and it had it's first failure? Also, any day a car spends in the shop while under warranty adds to the days left on the warranty so factor that in if it helps.
Good luck and keep us updated!

heh.. all is good now... 1500 miles and trouble free.. 2005 has been a good year for my porsche :>
i lived and learned last year and now am warrantied... from the originator of this post.. what's been said has been said, research it and take it as you wish, but there is no need to continue it.. hopefully this will be the last post to the thread.. let me have the honor of killing it, since i started it <g>
Please god make Bob the flame thrower go away.No one in their right nind would what he did. This thread is a total hoax....what do you actually drive BOB...a Supra or a Vette. Stay off of Rennlist with your bull****
sigh... i'm not even begin again, don't worry guys... look at the date on this post buddy, let it die... you're looking quite ignorant right now, considering these incidents relating to my vehicle have already been proven to be true by a confirmed by a fellow rennlister and porsche service manager...
regardless in terms of your comment about me owning a vette, i find it funny... look at the current porsche vs vette post about my feelings about vettes :>
