In fact, I actually considered having the red guages installed on my car until I was told that it costs about a grand.

I couldn't find a picture of the orange faces installed though.

I wouldn't dare try to attempt to dismantle and replace the dash.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All
I am changing the gauges in my 04 c2, and i wanted your opinion on colors
1) Silver
2) White
3 Red
The car is Artic silver and has the Int Alum Package
What do you think??
I think that red might look amazing. I don;t know how well it is to stare at though but I've seen posts by guys with red gauges and wow! Who are you thinking of ordering them from? Is your car from Pfaff?
Hey Alon
First off Congrats on the new ride!!!
Car Is from Pfaff, and ironicly its back there now, If they give me a good trade in value, I think it might
just stay there too. I was going to purchase these from Porsche Parts, IF I KEEP the car!
To be honest Alon, the 997 doesnt make me go ohhhhhhhhhh inside, there is a C4S there that i wouldnt mind owning.
The 996 Has been a good car, its just i am bored, U know how it is
I know what you mean about the 997. I was looking at them as a comparison to my 40 Jahre and even the 997S didn;t do it for me unless I dumped $35k of options into it. Even then, it's just not aggressive looking enough for me. I'll wait a few years to see how it progresses. As far as the C4s, they do have a couple of sweet ones for sale there (which one are you eyeing, the silver with painted lowers and suspension?). Have you driven a C4s? They look great but I still prefer rear wheel drive and the lack of weight of the C2.
I was looking at the white one, I need to drive it for a couple of hours befor i decide, If i cant get a good deal, i will dump some $$$ in to mine, i was thinking a full GT3 kit, and maybe some Engine mods, Its nice KNowing Pfaff has their own Performance shop now.Know anyone who is selling anything, i am always interested!
if you use MSG sevice you can add me, I am in my office ALL day!

I personally like the look of the red...... In fact, I actually considered having the red guages installed on my car until I was told that it costs about a grand. Being the cheap sob that I am, I just couldn't bring myself to drop a grand into something that doesn't help performance or resale value......
You haven't found a cheaper way of changing the color have you?
Hi LiveNupe,
When you say "about a grand" are you talking about replacing the gauges or just putting in new gauge faces? I can't believe changing the gauge faces would cost a grand. I've seen replacement colored gauge faces for around $250/set.
Yea A grand is pretty steep................that would be like 1,000,000 canadian!! You can do it with OEM gauges , thats right OEM for around 250ish if you need infor drop me a email or pm me!!
I don't get the red gauges thing. Seems like they'd be awful hard to read, the needles are red.
My 2 cents: leave them black, looks the best with the aluminum bezels and has a classic Porsche look to boot.
What bezels do you have, oem?
I added the FVD ones, not totally thrilled with them.
Limit your engine mods to exhaust and airkits, you'll be better off. Did you get a chance to drive the C4S yet? Once you do, you won't go back!
Chris
I was told OEM parts + labor = $1k. I wouldn't dare try to attempt to dismantle and replace the dash. Wouldn't want to risk creating rattles. I'll go back to my dealer and ask for the cost details for parts & labor.
I was surfing around and saw pictures of red gauges at BumperPlugs.com. The guages had aluminum trim rings too. They look good but would probably only work on cars with Guards Red, Black or Seal Gray exterior and a black or dark gray interior. I've seen orange gauge faces too and I think those would look great on Arctic Silver cars.
Its true i should get the alum shifter and hand brake....anyone know a good place to purchase...Please dont tell me the dealer they just quoted $ 1500.00 for the pair and thats just for parts...i will install them myself, but damm
I've got red gauges in my C4S Cab on a black leather interior - red seatbelts, red calipers, and that big red reflector band across the back...
btw, I've got a stock '04 C4S suspension, rims and rubber (all never used) available for sale if you're interested...
The question about the brake and shifter--try Gert first, then Suncoast [

. As far as my opinion on the gauges, I think red would look good b/c its different...I have never seen a 996 with Red Gauges. You may want to check LA Porsche Dismantlers as well--they have random stuff come in a lot that you can save a boatload of money on [used parts]...
No affiliation, of course....
PSS9s and you're not going to track the car? For what? If you're diving your car in the winter, forget about coilovers. I had H&R coilovers on my first 996 and after one Toronto winter, they corroded to hell. If you've got the factory sport suspension (option 030) and you don't want a harsh ride on the streets, go over to Pfaff and drive any of their cars equipped with the H&R springs and factory sport shocks. You'll be impressed. If you want more, get the X74 kit or H&R springs with Bilstein shocks.
I agree don't waste your money on pss9's on the street, you'll never see the benefit of them. and their 9 adjustments(9 things to go wrong).
I remember when I did the PDE course Hurley Haywood and Dave Murray were laughing their asses off about guys wasting money on pss9's on the street.
I agree with Robert. The black with the Alum rings looks perfect. The contrast is most readable and looks the classiest IMO.
...BUT...if you want to get rid of the alum rigns, PM me
Also, where did you get the silver painted horseshoe, and how much? I am looking at either that or a dark wood one to complete my interior mods.
thanks...Eric
Don't get silver...it will be too much with the silver rings.
Red is good but tiring
White would work
I have stock black and I like the look. It goes with other black plastic and a little CF.
Has anyone changed the gauge faces themselves? I know it is easy to get the cluster out, but how hard to take it apart and get it back together. It's unreal what these speedo shops charge for doing it, even if you pay them 200 or 300 bucks for the faces.
I have done it once befor, it really wasnt that bad, I am going to do it again soon on my MY04, if it helps i will take pics, and maybe write up a DIY for the fellow P-car owners.
Now i just need to decide what damm color!
I have two extra gauge clusters that have the clock set **** broken off at the hole. I can practice on one of those. I bought one for the silver gauge faces and the other I bid 20 bucks on and wound up winning the auction

You can have it Paul. I'll find it and get it to you this coming week sometime.
silver with silver rings looks great, just look at the boxster S guages (where this combo is standard)
i know the picture is focusing on something else, but you get the idea
