As Programmatore mentioned earlier in this thread, the factory-installed lights depend on two ride height sensors: one in the front suspension and the other in the rear suspension.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, my car has officially become dangerous to drive at night on long trips..the halogen bulbs are worthless (jee..i didn't really care about this before..maybe i'm finally becomming responsible?....nahhh). For those of you who have retrofitted your cars with litronics: 1) How much should I expect to pay for the kit? Best source? 2) What parts are included? I looks like a pretty easy install. Just run new wiring and slip in the new lights. 3) Any surprises or catches to know about? Did you sell your old lights or keep them for removal when selling your cars. and 4) Most importantly, any reason why I should get the OEM ones instead of just getting an aftermarket HID kit? Pics would be welcome too

POST 2Original post

Omar, why dont you sell your 1999 and get a 2002? i mean it might just be the best deal insted of buying Xenon, Aero Kit I and other Mod you wanna do... What do you think guys? Get a 2002 from teh US since the market here is Inflated....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

actually..that's not a bad idea at all....i will mull it over

POST 6Original post

Better yet, buy a 2004! I know where you can get one in the US at a HOT price!

POST 8Original post

I went through this recently. Litronics are nice, the 'eye' looks cool but they aren't worth the price anymore. There is a 01' c2 in my garage w/ Litronics, visibility is better by far I will admit that they aren't much better than the HID kits I've seen done to x96 Porsches. Brand new Litronics cost at least $2.4k (USD) new these days. Get a h7 Xenon kit,it should only cost $100-150 for a decent kit and install those. I thought I got a deal on ebay buying two seperate auctions making a full set.....turned into a royal pain and almost lost $650(had to take it to my credit card company). One litronic had a loose 'eye' part and the other was beat up all over the place...... They are a straight swap. If you want the leveling feature you have to wire some stuff but IMHO it's not worth the effort unless you want to kill a hour or so.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 4850566

Dude, don't even bother with the cheap eBay-type kits. They're just a very cheap quality system that's going to throw the light everywhere. I'd stick with the halogens before I went with a cheap HID system.

POST 10Original post

I had mine installed by the dealer when I bought the car at DFC. Too long ago to remember the installed price, so I can only offer a vote on question 4: The Porsche part is well made, looks it, and does everything an OE piece should do. I was really happy with it because it looked and worked like factory, and it amazingly refreshed the look of the car. In Canada, where Porsches have their headlights on all the freakin' time, the original halogens start to look tired and some of them burn-in. You don't appreciate how old it makes the car look until you replace them. Just my .02. Edit: I remember, now. They were about $2400 installed, with the leveling feature functioning. I thought it wasn't bad, since the dollar was in the 80s at the time.

POST 11Original post

Here we go again. Guys, the control unit that comes with the Litronic Retrofit Kit is for high beam rotation (the Litronic low beams rotate up when you hit the high beams) -- it is NOT for auto-leveling. Auto-leveling requires additional sensors and is only available on cars equipped with Litronics from the factory.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 4851932

The people on this board are so warm... Um, okay, you sound like you know what you're talking about. My assumption was based on the fact that the lights rotate up when they're switched on, just like in my Mini. I assumed it was for the same reason.

POST 13Original post

Well...if you are like me and love the look of the MkI aero kit, I can certainly see why you want to do this. As a matter of fact, so do I. DPS-motorsports has the best price I have seen on the internet for the Xenon kits. No affiliation...I bought my nose from them when I had my old car. Good pricing... Litronics at DPS

Not the case on the x96 cars. The light projected it actually pretty decent. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...c=10247&hl=hid

POST 17Original post

I want to sell my litronic lights that are awsome, why I sell them is because they dont have automatic leveling and its law on it in Europe. Freight cost to US 100 USD, hit me a PM with offer!

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

NOBY, thanks for the offer. I'm looking to do the litronic's later in the spring, i want to change aerokits first. i'm just sort of guaging price and options rite now. also, you can reactivate the leveling feature if you do the wiring. there is a guide up on renntech i think.

POST 19Original post

POST 21Original post

I added Litronics to my car myself. Did this in 03 maybe, prices were much lower then. Would have a hard time justifying it now, but even with the relatively high price it really changes the character of the car for me. Visibility is wonderful and installation is a breeze since they just slide right in. Furthermore, and for me the best part, it really dresses up and updates the front end of the car. If you actually take time to closely inspect the litronic assemblies, they are meticulously detailed and beautifully adorned.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

do the litronics have any orange in their indicators? i have the clear 99 halogens, but even still tehre's some visible orange in the lower part of the headlights that just drives me insane. it looks disgusting.

POST 23Original post

Clear lenses with orange lenses behind. I like it because it still looks factory to me, where as clear/clear has more of a 'tuner' vibe. It's a perfect companion to the Porsche white taillights and clear sidemarkers.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 4852197

As I've implied, I'm familiar with the cheap HID "systems" and my point stands. Looking at the pictures on the thread you referenced only reinforces my opinion--the light is scattered ("bleeds") all over the place, which is why a lot of people think that HID lights are too bright. It's not that they're too bright, it's that they weren't designed to be used in a halogen headlight assembly. Look at a Litronic headlamp versus a halogen headlamp on a 996. There's a reason they're designed completely differently, and it makes all the difference in the world. If I aimed my other car's HIDs into the garage in your thread, you'd see how incredibly sharp the cutoff is. Get the cheap kit if you want everyone to know that you're rich enough to afford HID headlamps. Get the Litronic kit if you want to be able to see better.

But that link doesnt say anything if its possible to wire up that the automatic level starts to work. Can someone confirm this is possible?

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 4852848

Can someone confirm that this is true, that its able to reactive the litronics so they will have automatic adjust leveling?

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 4965573

There is no automatic leveling for the Litronics Retrofit Kit. For 1999-2001 cars to have automatic leveling the Litronics have to be installed at the factory. I have a friend in the UK that bought the Litronics Retrofit Kit but kept his old halogen headlights because he has to put those back on when he takes the car in for MOT inspection -- the retrofit kit will not pass inspection.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 4853475

I agree....and I am going to do it. I found DPS has the best prices on the lights.....1500-1600 pr Anyone else have a cheaper supplier?

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

why did these kits go UP in price? shouldn't they go down with age?

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 4968959

Supply and demand theory at work here. Smaller suply, higher cost even if the demand stays the same.

POST 32Original post

I have a 2002 C4S with halogens. What if I bought OEM xenon headlamp assemblies for 2002+ 996's, will I be able to get self leveling to work on those?

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 4971517

No. As Programmatore mentioned earlier in this thread, the factory-installed lights depend on two ride height sensors: one in the front suspension and the other in the rear suspension. The add-on kit doesn't include the sensors and the control unit probably doesn't include the capability to process the inputs from the sensors even if they are added.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
