Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think the 15W-50 oil that I use must have caused premature AOS failure.
Leading evidence: 'Use must have caused premature aos failure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check calendar' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I had to check my calendar to make sure it's not April 1.

These damn 996's...really...mine is scheduled in for a AOS replacement tomorrow, gonna cost me just over $1000 with an oil & filter change included.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I heard on the new PCA forum that 993's are better than 996's. It seems that 996 engines have problems with their Rear Main Seals and the engines will blow. Have you guys heard about this? If so, I'm thinking of selling my 996 and shopping on the internet for a used Audi with heated seats. Just wondering about wheel fitment on the Audi A4's. Would like to go as big as possible...19's cause I don't want to be a wimp. I was thinking of changes on a A4 so I can make it look like an A4RS.
Any help?
Also, 996's have a tendency to catch on fire if they don't explode. There are too many problems with the 996 to list. IMO, you should get a nice Lotus without a bent frame or a Mazda 3 Speed and stay away from the 996.
Also, when you sell your 996, you can ask for 2 Llama's in the deal. I hear Tim has that in the works as well.

When driving a 996, I suggest bringing weenies and marshmallows in case the inevitable happens.
...and could you also PM me when the insurance offers to let you buy it back. I can always use another project.
I also heard that if you a buy a 996 you are not a " True Porsche enthusiast " . I also heard that
that last " Real Porsche" was the 993 because it was air cooled. I should sell my 996 and go look for a 964..............Now thats a real Porsche
Nah Paul, you're wrong. According to one dipsh!t PCA DE instructor that I had the displeasure of having for a session, the last REAL Porsche was the pre-impact bumper 911. Post 1973 911s are all poseur cars.
Thanks, guys...this thread has been a real eye-opener. My '99 has 64K miles on it and now I realize that it's probably ready to blow at any time. Whew, I had no idea of the pending disaster!
Thanks for alerting me to this problem. I'm going to start a search immediately for a REAL Porsche (maybe one of those air-cooled jobs). If you have a lead on one, please let me know.
You know, you finally have me convinced. I'll switch my 996 to an air cooled Porsche made by Saab, as long as it has a wing. I think that there's one for sale by a non-member in the 944 forum. Can someone run a Carfax for me?

Do the air-cooled ones use an AOS? Thinking of switching as well......
Damn, this post was really thought provoking. I met with a tuner yesterday who said he could convert my 996 over to air cooled. I bet that is the answer we have all been waiting for.
I have been talking to a guy that will swap my 964 motor into my TT so I can have the real aircooled sounds and smells. Gotta love the oil smell in the cabin
I actually thought that 996's were build by Ford...like all other crappy cars on the road?!? Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin ea.
I think the 993 is a much better car than the 996.....and it is just to bad I can't afford one.
NOT!!!!
