I haven't had the 15K mi service done ( $325 oil changes...I can only imagine) since I read somewhere it was a basic check w/out much substance or parts changed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello fellow Rennlist members, This is my first post. I have a 2002 Cab that I am the original owner of (15K Miles on her) which I baby better than my wife sometimes. The car has never seen rain, etc. I've noticed the gears wind when it is cold outside (even if the engine temp is warm). After I drive 1-2 miles the winding disappears. I haven't had the 15K mi service done ( $325 oil changes...I can only imagine) since I read somewhere it was a basic check w/out much substance or parts changed. On a side note, Does anyone know what is included and if I should have the service done at the dealer or can I do it myself? I heard the gear winding could be "cold differential fluid" (i.e. Gear Fluid?). Does anyone have similar experiences or advice? Also..Im a little low on Power Steering fluid and read the manual which stated to use "CHF 11S Type " fluid. I never heard of different kinds of P.S fluid and none of the local auto shops know what this is either. Thanks, Brad until I upload the pictures to Rennlist click on this link to see some... http://picasaweb.google.com/britchie...orscheRennList

POST 2Original post

The gear oil is simply cold. Once the gears get moving everything loosens up. No biggie. C.

POST 4Original post

Brad, Welcome to Rennlist. I agree with Chad, the gear oil is cold which is wny you get the gear noise. You can do your own 15K mile checkup. There are maintenance check lists on Renntech http://www.renntech.org/ which are very helpful. You will have to become a Member there ($25) but is is a very helpful, technical site. It is customary for "newbies" to tell us a little about themselves and their car, and most importantly, to post a few pics of thr car. So consider this your "newbie" initiation ==> Come on "newbie" post the !@#$%^&* pics! This is all meant to be light hearted good fun. Again, Welcome to Rennlist! chsu74, pass the popcorn.

Your P-car looks great Brad. I will pass on a HUGE and cost effective mod/improvement that was pointed out to me (on day one) by these knowledgeable Rennlisters. To be specific it was Tim K, and he is full of....mods, more than I can do for now. He was a great deal of help to me. PUMPKINS!

I am flattered that you noticed. You're almost making me blush! It's a new year, and I am going to try to be a "kinder, genteler" Rennlister! OK, so you aren't buying that load of !@#$%^&* are you? Actually, I have worked to refine my delivery. He hasn't posted a pic yet so I may have to reveret to the "old, original" delivery. Let's see if I can remember how it goes...... Hey, "newbie, where do you thinbk you are.... on a Bimmer Board?? Come on "newbie" post the !@#$%^&* pics! Yeah, I think that's how it goes. Good to know I've still got it!
