Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Two Questions
Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

1) What is the cost of putting a new engine in a 02 996? ( I am considering putting in a supercharger and weighing the risk. 2) Also, this morning my Cab. top went only part way down and kept stopping. I cannot seem to find an obstruction. It also stopped and started on the way up. I have done the mod two weeks ago to allow me to put the top up while moving and it has been working great. I was concerned the top might not go all the way back up this morning, but I barely made it. THANKS for any help. This is a great board. Kevin

POST 2Original post

Parts will run you right around $7200 for a Porsche rebuilt engine. Labor costs will vary greatly depending on your area/repair facility. I would estimate by the time all is said and done you'll be real close to 10K.

POST 3Original post

I've done the top mod, but never use it above 25 mph. Never had an issue. You might check to make sure all the components are lubed... As far as a supercharger, it shouldn't blow the engine. The bigger concern would be voiding the warranty, if you do have one left...
