Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It's the state inspection but it's $40 here because they have to do emissions and plug in to the OBD port and check for codes.
Leading evidence: 'Check codes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check codes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

In Mass there are special 4WD testing centers with dual dynos.

In NYS they do the emissions test with the car actually being driven on a treadmill.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The guy drives it up on the ramp (stalling it twice!) and gets out. A few minutes later he asks me to pop the "hood". I walked over, reached down and pulled the lever for the decklid. Walked around back and opened the lid. In the meantime, the guy had walked around to the front and was waiting to open the boot.
The look on his face was pricelss when I opened the decklid in back. He was silent for a second and I asked if he was wanting to see the engine (which I knew he was). He said "uh, yeah..."

It's no big deal. It's not like he was going to "hurt" the car or anything.
In NYS they do the emissions test with the car actually being driven on a treadmill. Then put a clamp on one of the wheels and there's a block in front of the front wheels, and then the guy puts the car in drive and runs it at speed on the treadmill.
I'm not sure how fast they get it up to, but I was standing outside (not behind or in front, just in case) and it sounds like they're going pretty fast. Of course, when it's a Porsche, they might find it necessary to go a lot faster just for the thrill. Anyway, the whole thing takes about 15 minutes, just for the emissions test part of it. Luckily, for my 911, that's all they did and I paid them and got my sticker.
haha. This reminds me of the first day i got my car. I drove it down to my
son's place to show off. We went out for a ride and he thought it was ultra cool. So we drove past his Uni to show off. Just outside the Uni he said to me hey Dad where do you put the CD's in (he had some CDs on him). I said I wasn;t sure. He said CD Changer must be in the boot. So I stopped the car and he got out and walked around to the back. All his friends were in awe as they watched him. But then he came back laughing with embarrasment. Duh guess what's in the boot dad?
We always laugh at this memory.
They do that here but only for cars that are older than 1995 or 1996 I believe. If it's AWD, then they do a static test and simply put a sniffer in the tailpipe.
So with my car and newer cars, they simply plug in to the OBD port and run the test that way. Which makes sense because the computer simply shows the o2 sensors readings, MAF, air fule mixture, temps, etc.
Had my 02 Jaguar (4-wheel drive) tested and they said that CA didn't require it because they didn't have the means to do it.......
Alright-y-then.....

$40??? I didn't realize how bad the pollution got in H-Town. I was in San Antonio for 25 years before moving to LV and the $10 inspection was more of a formality than anything.
Turn on your lights, signals, honk your horn....$10 please.
My recent state emissions test in Mass consisted of plugging the shop's computer onto the jack above the fuse panel on my 996. Everything was done by computer with engine running.
