Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just took the plunge and purchased a 40th Anniversary 911 (comfort/power seats, bose, cd changer, MSRP $93740). I was coming out of a CLK 55 AMG. As many have posted, I received an excellent discount on the car. I have had the car for 1.5 weeks and put 450 miles on the car. It is being used as my daily driver. Minor problems that I am having include the passenger mirror tilt feature while backing up. It is not functioning at all ( I have moved the mirror switch). After 450 miles, based on the computer oil check, I have only 3 solid bars left on the display. The dealer told me that I would probably need to add a quart of oil after the 1st 1,000 miles. Is this normal? Why is the car so prone to burning oil? Also, are there any other issues I should be concerned with? I have owned many BMWs and Mercedes, but this is my first Porsche and it has been a dream to own a 911. Thanks for the help and I look forward to being a participant in this fantastic site.

POST 2Original post

First, Congratulations!!! The 40th is a great package, almost bought one (before the big discounts). The mirror tilt feature has to be programmed to use it - haven't done mine and don't know how, but it must be in your manual. The oil situation sounds normal. I added a half a quart, maybe a little less, after about 1,000 miles, and at 3,400 miles I just added the rest of that quart. At least this I would consider "normal". Make sure you don't add too much. No other issues I can think of worrying about - just enjoy it!

POST 3Original post

Do you have the power seats with memory? The car has to be in reverse when you store the memory to keep the mirror tilt feature active. I added a quart to mine in the first 1500 miles or so then it hasn't needed any at 3400 miles now. It's normal during break in to consume some oil.

POST 4Original post

Welcome to the family, and congratulations on your new Porsche - great package! I have 950 miles on my '04 C4S Cab and have not needed one drop of oil yet. The mirror feature is set while gear is in reverse, then hit the memory button you want. Read the manual when you have time, but enjoy the car!

POST 5Original post

Welcome - Coming from a CLK55 ///AMG it is truly night and day with these two cars - My wife still has the CLK55 - I personally never really cared for it - after 6 months the fun was over for me. Anyway MRPC12 was correct with the pass-mirror - the oil is normal - no worries - Enjoy there is truly nothing like the driving pleasure of the 997 platform.

POST 6Original post

Congrates on your purchase! You can still experience some oil usage have break in its just the nature of the flat six design. Also don't allarmed the first time you start the car and blue smoke comes out exhaust. The 996 are better than the air cooled cars about burning oil and the occassional blue cloud on start up but they still do it occasionally. You will also notice that the 911 will heat up your garage like no other car (great in the winter not so great in the summer). Enjoy!
