Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I've been searching for '99-01 cabs for some time. Just ran into this one:
2000 911 C4 cab silver/black 23,000 miles just traded in to a small (family owned) BMW dealer in Delaware. It is a C4 and looks to be optioned reasonably.
Carfax is clean - single owner. I am going to get the name of the Porsche dealer where it was originally serviced to find out details of the service history.
So...the salesman said he would be willing to sell it for $35,700
This seems almost too low!
He claims the car is in excellent shape and I asked if he was willing to let me drive it over to the nearest Porsche dealer (which is 50 miles away) for a PPI and he said that would be no problem.
I have not seen the car in person and I am trying to decide if it's worth the 6 hour drive to check it out.
Any other questions I should ask or should I just run away?
The salesman said the person who traded it in bought a new M3 cab. Now there is nothing wrong with an M3 cab but why would someone spend $80k+ for a Porsche 911 drive it ~4000 miles a year then trade it in and get killed on the depreciation for a M3 cab (last model year at that!)?
As you can see I'm skeptical (buyer beware, you get what you pay for, if it seems too good it probably is, blah, blah, blah)
Is this price too low or what?
This dealership seems pretty "rinky dink" it's a small town, family owned, combo (Audi, BMW, Chevrolet) dealership and I'm wondering if they would just be glad to sell the car quick.
it's a steal!
if it can pass PPI, why not?
you will still be the king even if you had to replace the engine like bob did!
if it's a local car, try to get ppi in the dealership it was bot/serviced. you can get the full history of the car from there.
mention the name of the town, see if any rennlister can check it out.
I don't think that price is a sure fire run sign. The guy who traded it in probably got very little for it and they just want to make a quick buck (even a BMW dealer selling a porsche, car dealerships don't seem to like having to sell the products of other brands). My dad got his 02 C2 with 2 months of factory warranty and a 3 year extended warranty for 43 including taxes. Granted this is a C4, but still that price isn't so low that I would run from it.
First, the price isn't going to look low for being a Carrera 4 or a Cab. Cabs, despite costing significantly more, don't sell for more used. Being a Carrera 4 is only going to command about $2K over a Carrera. It is also much more likely to find a low mileage Cab over a low mileage coupe. It you haven't figured it out, the more optioned up a car is the more you get screwed in the resale. Nevertheless, Carrera 4S models as an exception will still command significantly more (about $10K) over Carreras due to the wider body, wheels, tires, lower suspension and bigger brakes. Having only only 23K is what makes the price skeptical, but this car is going to be below $40Kby market so the price is not that unreasonable being a 00'. Adding to this the car is out of warranty and it isn't going to get certified from a BMW dealership. Used Porshe tend to be cheaper at non-Porsche dealerships.
If you are serious to look at it, ask the dealer to send you pictures. Make sure all the decals are here they are supposed to be on the trunk lid, doors, door sills and bumpers. Just because the Carfax doesn't reflect it, doesn't mean there has not been an accident.
I had a similar situation with an 04' 40th An last year that was about 800 miles away at a Porsche dealer. There was a low mileage car with a perfect Carfax for about $10K under market, $59K as a price. I asked about the history. First they did not have the second key. They said they would just program another one. Then I found out they did not have the books. I had them directed to contact the previous owner to get them. They offered a new set of books as a backup. I was serious about moving forward and put a deposit down. I got a call back from the salesman about 4 days before I was going to make the trip informing that that there was paint overspray on the front bumper. I pulled out immediately and they did an immediate refund of my deposit. I appreciate that the dealer did the right thing in being honest with me before making the trip. This isn't that far under market, so I do not get the same vibe you do.
Lots of high res pics from dealer
Get VIN and call dealer for warranty and service history
Have someone local check it out
If so far so good, get a PPI
If PPI no problem, drive there to check it out and then pay for it.
Which decals are you talking about? The various white paper ones with emission info and such? Can you list them for me?
If they aren't there is this a sign it may have been painted?
I would highly recomend putting down a refundable deposit on the car. During the 3 months I was looking for a 996, I came across about 3 or 4 deals that seemed similar to this. I was a little slow to react due to the low price and by the time I decided to move, there was always a deposit on the car. Now, it all worked out for me becaues I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for at a great price, but it did take me more than 3 months. Put down a deposit, get a ppi, if it all checks out, you win!!!
good luck,
