Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

For me it's the aluminum gauge rings installed with superglue!

Or that you ran the stop sign 'cause you were squinting so much to make sure you weren't speeding...

I used 5 different logos until I learned that I was using the wrong one (the one that finally worked was specific to 1999-2001 911's because the top of the "C" had to be convex instead of concave).

Biggest PIA mod: replacing black Carrera rear script logo with silver one.

I sent it to V1 and they said I would have to replace my display.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I upgraded to the new release and concealed display didn't work correctly.
BEST MOD EVER, BYPASS PIPES. Just in case anyone wanted the opposite. We should start a best mod ever thread....................... That and the computer. Oh and girlfriend 2.0.
I though about swaping Wife 2.0 (in my case) for Girlfriend 6.0 but realised that this mod would be too expensive. The retail cost of that is usually equal to your net worth divided by two plus lots of legal fees.May as well upgrade to the new RUF 997 turbo....way cheaper.
Worst mod ? None so far...maybe by summer when I complete my whish list I'll have a few regrets.
I almost did the worst mod ever, but was saved by this forum.
I wanted to buy the fairly cheap aluminium trims for the little leather strip running across the entire dash.
Saved by the bell here, because people wrote about how hard that mod actually was with screws behind the dash.
Phew!
Paid way too much. The CF doesn't really match and the type radar leds don't work, although directional arrows do. Valentine couldn't make it work right with latest version.

Howdy,
New to the 996 thing. Bypass pipes? Cat bypass or muffler bypass or something else?
this one doesn't. I upgraded to the new release and concealed display didn't work correctly. I sent it to V1 and they said I would have to replace my display.
I had all three of them installed and thought everything was running nice and smoothly until suddenly 'Lawyer 2005 Professional Edition' (which I had forgotten about after I installed it) popped up and messed up the whole registry thing.
Can't really think of any that I regret, but that's probably because I think about each one for quite a while before I act. Usually, I regret not having done the mod sooner.

I finally got the part # from this board (I think). Still, I'm glad I did it, even though it took about a month until it was done right.
Honestly, my most regretted mod was the Tequipment roll bar. Besides being a challenge to install, it meant my kids could never, ever safely ride in the rear of Dadd'ys Porsche. I decided that was intolerable, so I sold it.
that is one of the things I can't wait to get for my car!! i even took out the back seats and belts. I also can't wait for the cat-bypass pipes to go along with my headers and exhaust.
FYI: if you want to sell the bar let me know. email me @

evo_333 nice..I love mesh wheels but on a Black P-car there is no better pairing. Please post more pics.
In the future I'll be adopting a Black 996S to keep the Box from getting lonely. Need one with a Red interior. So I can switch my GT3 seats to the 996 during the winter!
Here are the pictures. I got the LEDs off eBay for $25. I asked him if he had any brighter ones for the analog dials and he said these are the brightest currently made. Who knows. Oh and yes, I did turn the illumination adjustment **** to max.

Well, at least you could make the case to the cops that you couldn't read your speedo... Or that you ran the stop sign 'cause you were squinting so much to make sure you weren't speeding... or that you were distracted by the blinding light of your stereo in comparison to the dials... or....
HAHAHA! The only thing that really bothers me is that it's not really easy to see the tach. The LCD is bright and so speed it easy to see. I was thinking of putting the dial lights back in and leave the LCD, but the 2 tone color would probably be silly.
Yeah, how is it? Even though Dell's PSE caused his clutch to start slipping, he l still won't send them to me, so I may have to resort to doing that hack also. We need a report! Quite holding out on us!
It really sounds good. I have not heard PSE so I cannot give a comparison, but it works for me. It is not too loud (the wife doesn't have a "comment" about it when she is with me). I even removed the orange cap because it sounds much better. I also did the bypass at the same time. That is too loud for every day driving. I'm sure I would get pulled over. I had them on and drove up in the hills west of Portland, that was fun.
When I get the chance, I will record each and see if I can give a good comparison (OEM, hacked-PSE and by-pass).
Thanks again Lee for the mufflers. Next time we get together for drinks and blues, we will check out the car FIRST.
I have aluminum surrounds on the gauges as part of the Technics Package with the '04 Atlas/Black C4S I'm getting this week - from the pics, it looks ok, but I wouldn't have necessarily opted for them. What do you all think of the factory surrounds (not applied with super glue??)
Phil
The alu surrounds are really great. They enhance the looks of the dashboard very nice. Especially in a black interior. You should very much think about getting white/silver/alu faced dials too.
Just dont attach the rings with super glue ;-)
Phil - I really like the aluminum gauge rings. I think they were the finishing touch on the gauge cluster.
See the pics below. Sorry about the second pic, it's a little fuzzy.
looks great. i have the white gauges but had decided against the rings, thinking it may be too busy for the rest of the interior. thank you for changing my mind.
