Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

nothing that will cause a fit issue as i run 3.6 cans in my 3.4, but they ARE differant

Suggestion
I don't like the idea of over inflating repair cost on insurance but they break the toy they pay.

Suggestion
Hence maybe it's best to get all qoutes with the full repair done at each shop.

Suggestion
Wouldn't want uneven back preasures changing just one side of the exhaust either.

Suggestion
I'm sticking with the exhaust is part of the engine so it needs replacing too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought there is no difference between the C2 and the C4s mufflers.
My friend was rearended in his 03 Carrera 4S, and the exhaust tip and muffler pipe was bent. The dealer quoted the right side muffler at $3258.79 just for the part! I work with body and mechanical shops for work, and haven't even seen BMW, Mercedes and other higher end make exhausts cost anywhere near that price. Why?
Hopefully insurance is paying and somebody elses at that.
A whole new engine isn't far off in price. Have the dealer price the entire job with optional after market exhaust. If it's body and paint I'm sure he wants the porsche shop to match paint. I'm sticking with the exhaust is part of the engine so it needs replacing too. Wouldn't want uneven back preasures changing just one side of the exhaust either.
I was amazed to see that pricing so I looked it up. There is quite a difference between the pricing of the mufflers for a NB and the WB C4S. However, what is most amazing is the the price on the original part number (for the left side) 996.111.984.02 was $993.11, but the pricing for the superceded part number 996.111.984.05 is $3,630.59.
UNBELIEVABLE WHAT PORSCHE THINKS THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH!!!
I guess the new exhaust must be a whole lot better than the old one, although I don't see how it could be. Two of these mufflers are almost the cost of a remanufactured engine. Go aftermarket, you can get a better, lighter system, and repalce both sides for less than half of that price.
I would also guess that it is also a case of Porsche guarding against folks installing the setup after the initial purchase. They have done the same pricing game with the GT2 seats. I cannot remember the exactly pricing, but a CF set from Suncoast is like $13,000 whereas as an option from the factory, the cost is like $3k.
As always, ‘better’ is subjective. I won’t replace mine unless one craps out outside of CPO; I love the setup. If I needed a new setup, I think I’d go the Fister route before Fabspeed; I’d need to hear them back to back.
Paper and pencil maybe. Have your buddy weigh the differences. He has to include taking this as an opportunity to go after market performance. One info that would help a lot of guys here figure the best route is weather this is covered by insurance. If so it's three qoutes and deal for what he wants with the lowest price. Hence maybe it's best to get all qoutes with the full repair done at each shop. Have all the persons doing the qoute include those expensive exhaust parts which I'd be leary of running one new so get the qoutes with both sides. Doing that gets him very close to a new engine. Then with the engine in sight and his fantasy of upgrades and how much he would spend on them.....hmmmm after market exhaust hmmmmm. I don't like the idea of over inflating repair cost on insurance but they break the toy they pay. I also think making the best of this where the guy can pitch in extra money to get where he wants is possibly his best route. I know I'd debate it heavily.
this is not true.
the 3.6 are differant in several ways including the plugs, inlets, outter shape around the end..... nothing that will cause a fit issue as i run 3.6 cans in my 3.4, but they ARE differant
