Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I suppose I will bring it to a bodyshop to confirm whether the hood was replaced or repainted.

I had the car brought to a dealer for a PPI before purchase and I specifically wanted them to look at the bodywork, it got a clean bill of health.

If you can find out if the car has been repainted/repaired/replaced then we are looking at a serious case of fraud on the part of the dealer.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought a 2003 996 a month ago and I just noticed that the options code sticker under the hood is missing. Are these stickers easily removed? I dont know why the previous owner would do this but I cant see any trace of residue of the sticker anywhere under the hood. My first thought, it was repainted....I certainly hope this is not the case since i was told it never had paintwork and the PPI never showed this either. Any of you out there taken this sticker off?
I highly doubt someone would remove the sticker since they are irreplacable. You only get them on the original hood or in the service books. There may not be traces of repaint, but maybe they had the whole hood replaced. See if the bolts look they have been turned or not.
There are 2 option stickers that come with the car (one under hood and one in service manual) and they are like UPC codes on a product. Without them you have very little to go on short of ordering a COA.
If your sticker is missing I would bet Kirby's pink slip that you hood was painted and/or replaced. Not good. If you can find out if the car has been repainted/repaired/replaced then we are looking at a serious case of fraud on the part of the dealer.
The car was purchased from a private party unfortunately and not a dealer, someone on this forum in fact but I do not want to get into that. I am getting a very bad feeling about this purchase. First the RMS goes within a week of ownership now this. The car looks and drives great but I just feel deceived. I had the car brought to a dealer for a PPI before purchase and I specifically wanted them to look at the bodywork, it got a clean bill of health. I suppose I will bring it to a bodyshop to confirm whether the hood was replaced or repainted. If this is the case, is it a large blow for resale?
Thanks......
My car was mising the sticker as well. I called the dealer to inquire and he said the stickers are applied during dealer prep. Sometimes the 18 year old kid working at the dealership forgets or whatever. Who knows but my hood did not look repainted or replaced.

I am always cautious of what the dealer informs me however, I would contact PCNA and confirm such claim. I find it hard to believe that the factory would allow a car to be sold without the option code decal.

i am not trying to aruge, but this was my experience.
3 of my 996's had the sticker on my book and under hood.
the other 2 had the sticker in the book, then another sticker with the backing still on, never peeled off, but separately put in the owner's pouch. there were no sticker under the hood. the separate sticker, i presume, is for the hood which i applied myself.
if that only happened once, then i would say my car probably got repainted at port. but i happend twice to ME. either i am just very unlucky or maybe the sticker was to be applied at port or whatever.
i have no answer to that, but just thought i share this anomaly.
The stickers are are supplied from the factory and are applied by the selling dealer. There were a number of cars that were built in 2003 that did not come with stickers - nor were their model numbers entered into the DME. Most dealerships have run into at least one of these cars - PCNA can get the options list from PAG and the DME is usually programmed with the correct model info the first time the car is in the shop.
