Hello,
I have been wanting to purchase the Continental DW tires for months but the rears (285/30/18) have been on back order.Does anyone have a source for these tires. Or have a comparable alternative that is $1k or under? Thanks!

what sources are you searching ? tire rack?
might be able to ask your local discount tire to get you a set...they might have a way, just dont stock these odd profiles
Same happened to me a while back with Continental. Now I have SportContact2s on the front and DWs on the back.
Check with Damon at Tire Rack, he will have the most recent news.
You might also discover that a local retailer has a pair or two in the warehouse.
I was in the same situation a few months back. Waited for the DW for months but at the end needed new tires because they were worn down to threads. I went with Potenza S04 and I'm pretty happy with them.
Got them for about $1,100 out the door from Discount tire price matched with Costco.
I would wait if you can for the DW's to come in over the Hankooks(this is coming from a Hankook V12 owner). If you're in a position to get the Potenza SO4's, I would definitely get those over DW's IMO(coming from previous S02 and S03 owner).
FYI- the 265/35 18 is available in the DW and is a reasonable option for the narrow body 996. In fact, it was the original equipment for Mk I 18" option. I went with them when I couldn't wait any longer to replace my tires. I have been happy with the results. They are a bit cheaper, too!
You ought to be able to get two rear Conti DW tires for far less than 1000 - I thnk I paid about 600 total for my two rears.
I also would point your at the local shops - they might have them sitting around just waiting for a mount. You may have to resort to the old telephone to find them though.
Just FYI I ordered the Continentals from Tire Rack shortly after this post and I received them a couple of weeks ago and they seem to have them in stock now if others are interested. They look real nice I can't wait to get them on the car for the spring!
Congrats! I gave up after waiting for 3 months. Ended up with the potenza S0-2, pretty good tires. Will try the DW someday if they still exist. I think it's a trick that the tire manufacturers keep coming up with new models and discontinunig the old ones to force ppl to get the new (matching) tires...even though there are really nothing wrong with the old models.
I have gone through the continentals, sport ribs, and now S0-2 even though all those tires are all good enough for me anyway. It feels like everytime I have to hunt for a new model.
