I got a bin to replace the cd holder (easy to install) and the non-smoking ash tray replacement.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Santa dropped off some nice toys for me yesterday. I got a bin to replace the cd holder (easy to install) and the non-smoking ash tray replacement. I'm fairly new here and tried the search function but couldn't find it. It didnt come with instructions on installation but I know I've seen a video on here of how to do it. Can anyone lend a hand?
Thanks in advance.
I did it 3 years ago.Open your ashtray lid and pull out the ashtray. Under it there are 2 screws, undo them and you can pull out the ashtray. You'll have to unplug window controls etc.,replug into the nonsmoker kit, re-attatch the nonsmoker unit and enjoy the extra space.Hope my memory is correct. GL
Pull the ashtray out, remove 2 Torx screws that you see, pull the assembly out and swap the switches to the new part... reinstall... add water and eat!!
Here ya go...

You need some torx drivers, which I guess is probably obvious. From memory, the two screws that hold the ashtray in the console are visible when you open the lid. Take them out. IIRC, the screws are plastic, so be gentle with them. The ashtray will lift out with the window switches still connected to it. These are snap fit. Just poke them out. Disconnect the wire that leads to the ash tray light and just tuck it out of the way. Insert switches into the new tray (in the same position) and reverse the process. Lay the rubber mat in the tray, and bob's your uncle.
It's very, very easy. Even I could do it.
Thank you very much. I was looking at the layout wrong and asked Santa for the wrong color. I have a gray interior and got a black insert. I'll see how it looks, might just keep it. Now I just need the right head to take the screws out.
You guys are great, thanks again. Merry Christmas.
So I finally got the right torx bit (size 30) and it lifts out pretty easy. The window buttons are in there pretty tight. I just push those suckers thru right?
Success.....the filler switches are harder to get out than the live ones (no heated seats, just power windows). One step to include is to take the, well screw anchors, for lack of a better term out of the old tray and put them in the new one.
Now just need to see if I mind the black tray with the gray interior.
Thanks again for the help.
So I guess the step by step would be:
1 - pull out ash tray
2 - unscrew the 2 screws in the base (size 30 torx head and be gentle, screws are plastic)
3 - pull tray out the base
4 - remove switches (filler switches are tougher than live ones)
5 - place switches in new tray
6 - place tray where the old one was
7 - remove anchors from the old tray and place in the new one
8 - use screws from old tray to fasten down the new one
9 - place mat in new tray
