Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

31 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at my old dynojet graph and I can't recall what gear was used but I can see that it topped out at 128mph. I think it's 3rd. 6spd manual, fyi.

POST 2Original post

has to be at least 4th without running the numbers.........

POST 4Original post

wow - so who needs 4th, 5th and 6th the chart says 2nd tops out around 67 3dr around 99 4th around 128 hmmmm - I WAS RIGHT

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so 4th is the closest to 1:1, right?

POST 7Original post

i don't have the gearing handy for NA 6spd, but for TT 4th is 1.12 and 5th is 0.92

POST 8Original post

5th is 1.02:1 for 6 speed 4th is 1.22:1 4th is 1:1 for tip

See, good info comes when one consults the manual! LOL

POST 10Original post

LOL - its the only part of my car home..... the rest of the car is in the shop

Sorry to bother you.

POST 12Original post

no bother here - I hardly ever get anything right.... made my weekend

BAWHAHAHAHAHA! Ed, sometimes you really crack me up! Someday, I hope we can meet in person!

POST 14Original post

5th is our closest 1 to 1 but most dyno operators will dyno you in 4th and adjust for it. Top speed in 5 is 160ish which is really spinning the dyno unnecessarily fast. My recent dyno pull was in 5th because it was late and we were all in a hurry to get out of there. With my raised rev limiter I spun the dyno to 162 which is not necessary. 4th would be just a good to get a smooth pull.

POST 16Original post

Haven't been to a dyno, but my 3rd gear tops out well before 128mph on the track.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6762681

Yeah, just came home from some errans. 126 with the top down. So if 4th isn't 1:1 then 3rd is? Does 4th give me less hp to the wheels than 3rd or vice versa?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 6762854

as said earlier.. 5th is 1:1 in the 996 6speed

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6762399

I missed this post.. So what where your (SAE) dyno numbers and what's your limiter raised to?

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 6763026

Me? 299 rwhp at 7300 rpm. X51 headers, no cats, fabspeed mufflers, evoms intake.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 6763252

How are you dealing with the CEL for the secondary O2 sensor? Or did you just bypass cats for the dyno run?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 6763560

just the cat bypass pipes. I have had them on since the beginning of spring. No spacers on the 2ndary O2 sensor and the only CEL I have thrown for the cat was the night after my dyno pulls as I was pulling into my street nearly 3 months after they were installed. It causes me no grief that once in a blue moon I have to read the code and clear the CEL light with a basic code scanner.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 6763252

These numbers are depressing considering that's a "normal" 3.6 when comparing to what my 3.4 made at the wheels. (246 I think) More and more non-X51 3.6 cars making 300whp these days which I think is an outstanding number.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6764083

Yeah, 299whp (SAE) is very nice I only made 275whp (SAE). I have Giac, evo intake, GHL, RSS Plenum.

POST 28Original post

SOOOOOO - whats the fastest you have had your 996 to ? that chart says 180+ (saw that and thought......yea OK) I posted a 154 on the speedo once - I have no desire to do it again, but I like 100 A LOT !

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6767337

I've driven fast enough to know that it will not reach 180+mph.

POST 30Original post

I just performed a test on my way home and I couldn't get 128 mpg in any gear. With a light throttle the best I could get was in the 30's in 6th gear....

POST 31Original post

Ooh, love those CHARTS, makes me want to build a POWERPOINT, ha Paul996, your car's ripping some nice numbers, good to know what it's capable of.... I've seen 145 in 6th still pulling strong, but was just running out of room. 2nd is a great auto-x gear since it will take you to 70 before banging the rev limiter, and driving canyon roads in anger 3rd is all you need. Kind of like golf, where you really only need a few clubs.
