Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just removed the stainless steel doors sills from my car because they had been installed with 2-sided tape. Water got underneath and ruined the tape and loosened the sill. I almost have all of the tape goo removed and now I'm wondering what the proper way to install these would be. After owning 2 MGB's I know that water trapped under these things can be bad, so should I just leave then off? Thoughts? Thanks.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nevermind - I just found a bunch of info when searching. I can't believe the 2-sided tape is the standard way. Seems so cheap. Plus, once it got wet, it just rotted away. And it gets wet with every car wash!

POST 3Original post

so what did you find? i wazs thinking about the door plates too.

POST 4Original post

I remember going through the same thing. I remember using some double sided tape and caulking to keep it tight. I did this about 2 years ago and haven't had any issues yet.

Standard install is 'industrial' double sided tape which comes already attached to the sills. The carbon fiber one's on my wife's 986 have been in place for 10 years - no sign of rot so far... or on the double-sided tape!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was planning on re-using the stainless plates. There is nothing wrong with them. They just loosened up when the tape rotted out. Everytime you opened the door it would slide around and it scratched the sill a bit. I'll just find some of that "Industrial strength" tape mentioned and reapply them.
