Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The car I drove had some pretty decent options, it is at a dealer, Prime Porsche in Westbrook, MA. It would be my daily driver so although I would prefer a C2 the C4 is needed. It drove very tight.

What do you all think???
I would obviously get a PPI from another shop, I am going to ask the person that helped me for the service history, it has been done at that dealer the past few years.
I did have a very small dent in the hood from someone closing it on something, I would ask for that to be fixed. I like the fact it comes with the factory 17" wheels for the winter.
I am thinking $29k should easily buy this car, I am guessing they gave less on the trade.
I was actually going their to drive an S4, but now an Audi is out of the question, I will now begin my search for a C4.
Thanks all
Bill
For what it is worth I already have a weekend toy so I do not want a concurs car, I would be to upset every time it got a chip in it. Not saying I do not want a good car, just saying I would not want a car like what Phil had, it would kill me to DD it.
PPI and service history. RMS repairs? Has it been hit? Don't trust carfax
I'd get them to do a brake flush if one has not been done in the last two years.
Was 30K service done by them?
Here are the options on the car- At this point I do not know if the previous owner added other options-
Base Model- $72,000
Leather Seats- $1490
18" Turbo Look Wheels- $1190 (Now has 19" wheels, I have not seen the extra ones that come with it)
Rear Wiper- $335
Supple Leather Front and Rear- $390
Heated Seats- $400
Power Seats- $1520
Adaptive Sport Seats Leather (This is what the dealer has listed, but I am guessing this is actually the Technic Package)- $2190
Design Package- $3385 (I am assuming that is the silver console and shifter, what else??)
Mats- $110
Artic Silver- $805
Total- $83,815
Service Dept was closed today so he could not pull the service history for me, I will have him do it tomorrow. This will obviously mean a lot. I thought the price was pretty low for a dealer.
Brake flush is a good idea, I will make sure the 30k was done, from the way he was talking the prior owner did all the scheduled service with them. He traded it on a new P-car.
I read the cax fax on line from dealer ad. Looks like RMS IMS maybe done about 20K.
The bumper looks good for 40K+ miles. Should have more stone chips IMHO
? repaint front ,was hood very clean except for small dent you saw?
Start a new thread with "anyone know this car"?
It has some nice wheels and silver side markers so it was loved by someone.
Also if you buy that car don't leave without 3 working keys.Test them all!!
Two remote working ones and a "valet" not remote one.
They are expensive to get afterwards and you should get three when you buy the car
Does the info about the Repair at 20k miles (Transmission removed to complete repair, Intermediate shaft seal replaced, Tail light assembly replaced, Oil and filter changed, chassis lubricated,
Rear crankshaft oil seal replaced) mean it is less likely to happen again???
Looks like a nice car. With the IMS and RMS seals done in 05 the RMS is defintely not the latest version, not sure about the IMS seal, which comes with the updated flange. I would think the mid 20's for this car. From a dealer it mght be a little more. See what they did to it based on the inspection when they took it in. Usually a dealer will inspect a car and do anything that is needed (tires, brakes, etc.). I think it is too old for them to do a CPO, but if not it is definetly a big plus. Or get the dealer to throw in a EasyCare warranty as part of the deal.
By the way, that is not a stock/OEM steering wheel. And you will not regret the C4 if you are driving it in CT winters.
I am aware, I am currently debating whether I should continue to look for a CPO or not, all the CPO's have a pretty good premium, but I guess it comes with piece of mind.
I was thinking with all the options on this car under $30k would be good as well, but it would need a clean PPI and a few blemishes taken care of as well as new rear tires.
I notice you are in Maine and have snow tires with a C2, how does it do in the winter? This will be my daily driver so I was looking at C4 only.
I haven't driven a C4 in the snow, but I do drive my C2 with 4 Blizzaks and have a blast. Remember that the snow just doesn't stay on the roads for very long. I haven't driven it in more than 6-8" of fresh snow just because our cars don't have a lot of ground clearance.Put it this way, I haven't been stuck yet.
Here's a price comparison. I bought my 2002 targa about 4-5 weeks ago. It had 13.5k miles on it with a fresh CPO. Only serviced at the dealer I bought it from with full records passed on to me. Extremely clean with 2 previous owners. I paid a premium for the CPO and condition, no doubt, at $35k. I could have bought an older one with high miles for less. However it feels and looks like a new car (almost). So, to me, the extra $5-7k I paid for an MkII with low miles, CPO, and excellent condition vs. one with 60k miles was worth it. I can afford slightly higher payments, but I can't afford a $12k engine replacment in the next 2 years.
If I keep it after 2 years, then I'll have the clutch replaced along with the LN engineering IMS upgrade and drive it for a long time.
I can not seem to find a CPO for $35k, did you buy from a dealer or from someone that transferred the CPO? I think the price you paid is good considering the CPO.
+1 for getting a MKII
I too looked for a long time, was set on a 2001 and fortunately ended up buying a 2002 C4 back in 2004. Tons of upgrades besides more hp, etc that are well worth a few more $$ IMO.
I think I am going to wait a little longer and search for a clean C4S. My budget will be closer to $40k or more come April. Until then I will continue to search and soak up as much knowledge as I can.
This is true, I will have them fax me the records they have, can not hurt to make a low offer. It does have many of the options I would like especially the extra wheels. And although I am kind of tired of silver cars, for Daily Drivers it is the best color especially in New England, it hides everything.
Your Car is one of the nicest looking I have ever seen, I would love to have it, but it would kill me to Daily Drive it up here in New England.
I have my weekend toy that I never plan to get rid of-
If you can not tell I love white cars..........
