But if he's using the back seats as an excuse to close the wife, it works most of the time....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think I know the answer to this but my brother in law (not a "Porsche guy" and has never owned a porsche) mentioned he was looking for a 996 Cabriolet and I asked him why. He said because he wants a 4 seater convertable so he could take his wife and 11 year old, rapidly growing 5' tall daughter out. I was trying to explain why this may not be the best car. Anyone have experience with this?
I put a 10 year old and 11 year old in the back of my Coupe regularly with no issues (other than my fixed back seats dont "flop" forward to allow easy access)
the car is fine for a child (or two) in the back (dont know about a Cab, but was looking at that option when I started my search - might be a little less room)
The 5' 11yr-old daughter will very soon outgrow the seats.
But if he's using the back seats as an excuse to close the wife, it works most of the time....
Ref: my previous post on this subject...............the back seats + a four hour drive through country roads is a great way to get rid of your daughters boyfriend that you don't like!!
Pete
hahaha @ got rid of the boyfriend
I had a co-worker insist he could fit in the back one day for a lunch run.... we have not spoken since !!! (well we have spoken, but its been all about "I aint never going in that car again" hahaha!!!!)
The back seats are fine for someone 5' and under. But it all depends on how tall the person in the front seat is. If you scoot the front seats back too far they'll take away nearly all of the legroom.
Also keep in mind the cab has completely upright seat backs. So they're not the most comfortable for a larger person because it may feel as if you're leaning forward. And finally there's the issue of headroom with the top up.
I've fit people up to 6' tall back there but we laughed the whole time he was trying to get out of the car.
Hello,
It all depends on what the plan is. When I was in the market for a convertible sports car, I needed one that could seat 4. I have three kids (girls 15 and 11, son 8) and I am frequently shuttling them around. The 996 rear seats are certainly big enough for a 30 minute trip to dinner, the beach, soccer practice, gymnastics, etc. No, I would not recommend that someone sit back there for an hour long trip. However, when I have a 30 minute trip, and I offer the Porsche or the Honda van, my kids usually pick the 996.
The rear seat is the reason I bought the 911 over the Boxster.

There simply is not much room in the back of a 996 cab....I went with a MB 550 (or 350) CLK to get rear seat room...it was the biggest rear seat of any cab I looked at (Bimmer, Porsche, Benz).
Hey Barry, didn't I buy a 944 from a buddy of yours about 15 years ago?? am I not remembering? John Potter?
Sorry for the thread jack...
Backseats in my 996 don't even fit my German Short-haired pointers.... but they do fit my 2 and a half year old daughter well.
I've had two 14 year olds in the back seat once, for a 20 minute drive. Even with the top down, it wasn't confortable for any of us. But the two in the back sure were grinning a lot!
I can fit my softball bat bag across the back seats without a problem... but I have to pull the driver and stand-up putter out of the bag to make the golf clubs fit... frankly, never thought about letting someone sit back there... My '73 Fiat Spyder had a very useful backseat... she was the transport of choice for three slender women during Spring Break in San Felipe back in the day... those were good days!

Back seat passengers in the cab run into legroom issues first. The seat bottoms are not very high, so anyone over 4ft tall is going to have their knees up in the air. If the front seat is moved forward to its limit, they will have very little room to stretch out their legs. If the front seat is moved backwards to its limit, their ankles will be in a vise. As mentioned earlier, no wiggle room left-to-right due to the hump, and the seat backs force a very upright posture.
So, a full sized adult will have their butt on the ground, their knees in the air, their feet wedged under the seat in front, their shins pressing against the bottom of the seatback in front, and their face about 3 inches from the garment hook at the top of the seatback in front.
And if you start the car, lower the top, and drive, they will forget all of that, and love every minute of it!
e46 m3 definately has more room than a 996, width, height, legroom and overall comfort are much better with the m3 but i'm sure there are other cars that offer more comfort and room
e46 m3 really is a great car (i hate the new one)
