Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have any experience with the GHL muffler bypass pipes? Or does any one have any used Fabspeed bypass pipes they would like to part with? Thanks

POST 2Original post

IMO, the bypass is much to loud for everyday driving. Go to Pep-Boys and pick up a pair of 90 degree extention pipes and put them on ($15). Then take you car out that evening and drive around town. Unless you are deaf, I can't imagine anyone liking them daily. You neighbors won't like them...that's for sure. First time you come to a light next to a cop.......he won't like them either. Most tracks don't like them either.

POST 3Original post

I have the fabspeed bypass pipes on my everyday driver. 01 996 c4 supercharged. I love them. They are not to loud in my opinion. They seem really loud when you 1st hear them. I get even more compliments on my car then I already did. The car sounds fabulous with the bypass pipes.

POST 4Original post

I just put the Pep Boys pipes on last weekend - just as 1999Porsche911 said above. It is loud, but my car isn't my daily driver, so I may go this route or I still might decide it's too loud and go with one of the muffler choices out there. Either way, I would strongly recommend doing this mod to find out how loud it really is. The loudness that I'm not real fond of is when I'm just driving at a constant speed on the freeway. I love the sound on acceleration, but the constant roar may just prove to be too much.

POST 5Original post

I have them on my 2001 which is driven on nice weather days. I love them, if you want to journey out to central NJ and hear them for yourself..pm me

POST 6Original post

when i did the pse "conversion" on my mufflers i drove the car with the boxes off. i went round the block ..saw a cop and ran home....way loud.. am i right to suggest that this is what the bypass will sound like? i have done the pse and feel they are too quiet? maybe outside and behind the car driving it sounds better?

POST 7Original post

How did you do this? Did you take the car in and have them remove the mufflers to fit the pipes? Did you just give them dimensions and install them yourself?

POST 8Original post

Chris, the Pep Boys pipes fit perfect off the shelf. Easy mod and a good (inexpensive) way to see if you like it LOUD! If you like the sound, you could get a set of nice tips to put on or just by the Fabspeed bypass pipes. They're pricey but are very high quality.

POST 9Original post

I took my mufflers off and had Meineke make up a couple 90' pipes....I like it but its loud... I couldn't find anything in Pep Boys that fits.

POST 10Original post

I have the fabspeed. It is loud, but I like it. I mean, isn't that the way sports cars are supposed to be? A little rough around the edges?! Seriously, If I drove the car daily, I wouldn't leave them on but since I only track the car with the occasional street use. PSE sounds great for the daily driver. Pep Boys pipes? Do you have a part number?

POST 11Original post

The thread with the Pep Boys part number is HERE. . It's just a 2" I.D. 90 degree bend pipe, but having the part number makes it easier to find in the Pep Boys parts bin.

POST 12Original post

At least once a week though, after taking my mufflers off, some kid in a Honda will stop me and say "Dude, your car is sick!" And then of course, they want to race...
