were getting a little carried away here!600.00 for this?change the factory exhaust(a little restrictive),coilovers possibly(a little expensive)new michilin pilots(expensive but fantastic)these are some of the changes i would consider!,im all for certain upgrades, but trying to beat porsche at there own game well its getting silly!like a previous post pointed out,the x51 conversion gets 25hp more,to think this will give 22 is pure fantasy.to many variables with dyno testing,i suggest researching PCA web site tech forums about these upgrades,im sure youll give it a second thought, this guy joel reiser on the pca forum has some great insight, check it out

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

But honestly there was little to no difference in sound, pedal response, etc.
Why can't I find anything in the 996 forum on this? Is it that new?
* Fits all 996 Vehicles 1998-2005
* Dyno proven and verified + 22 HP. Power increased all across the RPM band. You can easily feel the power in the seat of your pants.
* Major increase in throttle response and driveability.
* Highest increased airflow of any air-intake systems offered for these cars. 90mm 3.5 thin wall carbon fiber tubing with highflow airfilter.
* Cold Air professional race quality systems for all Porsche 996 streetcars and drivers education and GRAND-AM professional race cars.
* System comes with carbon fiber heat shield and all parts for a do-it-yourself installation
* Compliments any other bolt-on modifications.
* On a stock 996 makes the car sound very sporty and sound great.
Anybody ???
Nice use of carbon fiber (very clean and simple design) and I bet it sounds good, too. Anyone buying this thing for a HP bump is in for a disappointment, though.
Now if they could create a carbon fiber shell to keep the ram air into the filter and keep the hot air away. It seems every other car has 2-5 different variations on a cold air kit from the aftermarket. The 996 has few options for a CAI and fewer that actually look like they'll help.
Water vapor ingestion: I don't see how this design could avoid it if the car is started after being parked outside in the rain? That round filter looks to be directly below the hole in the engine lid. It would get saturated, no?
Yes. It seams like the position of the filter makes sense but it should be shrouded from the engine better. But also when I look at the Evoms system I am thinking that the air has to flow through a system of hot plastic molding and a hot triangular plastic box before reaching the engine. The Fabspeed's filter position and heat shield might be better. You need temp. readings at the filter, perhaps, too see. Fabspeed's looks better for sure.
EXCATLY!!! I was on their Wedsite the other day and saw the Video's on this... I was thinking of the Swaping this for my EVOMS CIA, i really like the Carbon Fiber and Simplicity of this design... But my only problem is since the filter is where it is, what would happen if it gets soaked... I have PM'd Fabspeed via 6speedonline to get some answers regarding this... Lets see what they say... But i Really like this
I don't think water would be a problem unless it was sealed to the body and even then, how much water is it going to ingest. Motorcycles have had ram air and sealed airboxes for years and many a muscle car has a had a ram air set-up without water ingestion problems. Most water problems are when people place the filter too low and drive through water.
I talked to Joe at Fabspeed and he swears they did extensive testing with regards to the moisture issue and it had no problems. If you think about it the Evoms CAI would suck moisture right to the filter too. Wouldn't it?
I bet it would sound bad *** combined with my PSE.
Not really, the Box has Drain Holes at the bottoms... I have had my on for 4 years with no issues and i DD my car Rain and Snow
But i want this new Fabspeed CIA, just wanna make sure it wont crap my car out
Actually you're right. People have been using water injection systems to reduce inlet temperatures for years. A nice side benefit is that it leaves a spotless combustion chamber. Injesting small amounts of water is no problem. Turning your intake into a straw in a puddle of water is a problem. My guess is that the amount of water you'd ever get through a filter in this position is pretty small...

+22 hp sounds optomisitic. It would be interesting to know Fabspeeds testing conditions (i.e., is the exact same 996, temperature, what gear, etc.?).
If 22 hp was verifibale and honest, I think most of us would spend $600 for it. I know I would, but I just don't believe it.
I doubt +22 hp as well but if it's half of that I will be happy. I really like the look and sound. I live in S. Cal. and am not a bit concerned about any moisture issues. It's my fun car anyway. I will post after installation. I doubt I will get it dyno'd but in my mind it will be +22
There is no friggin way you are getting any noticable HP (at the wheels) from this thing. Just forget about it.
You are spending your money for sound, better throttle response, and a cute CF cover.
IMHO the design is retarded and backwards, but what do you expect from a company that was selling a silicone hose and an orange cap for $250 and calling it a CAI.
Good luck. I hope it works out for you.
Lessee here, Porsche charges a ton of money for the X50 upgrade which changes all sorts of internal parts to get about 25 HP. Does anyone seriously believe that they would leave 22 HP on the table for a freaking air intake. If you do, get me some of what you are drinking.
Joe Fabiani is not evil. He simply makes the same claims for his stuff as all the other liars out there.
The engineer part of me says to remind everyone that our engines are essentially a pump. A 996 engine can suck in 3.6 liters of air 6,800 times per minute. Do you think a factory engineer would design an air intake and filter that allowed less? Fact is the stock system will allow m ore than double that.
The CAI will increase sound - in two ways, more engine noise and a sucking sound from your wallet:

I will also add that originally I just put a nice BMC filter into the stock air box and it was great. Then a good deal came along on an EVOMS CAI. But honestly there was little to no difference in sound, pedal response, etc. And yes the stock air box is VERY well designed.
Hey Hapich,
Love to know what your take is, once you've got it installed.
BTW (during my research) I was reading that the resonator and Y junction is for reducing EU drive by noise, no mention of airflow design.
Cheers,
Sid.
Ps. when all else fails... you can always use pink plaid!
It's sitting in a box in my living room. Yes I'm single. Wanted to wait to get my after market warranty inspection done first. Week and a half ago so that excuse is futile. I am getting a lot of grief from buddies to put it on too! I'm going to do it this week I promise. I am a little gun shy I admit.
This site is giving me paranoid delusions I have to say. G@d D@mn IMS, RMS, Intermixing, MAF sensors..... I practically do a PPI every time I get in the thing! Maybe that's a good thing? It's cool though. I am enjoying the hell out of it!
I already changed the blue cap. It was leaking !! I am into this thing for $23 bucks! I just thank god I have the common sense to live in So. Cal. The weather some of you people put up with?
What blue cap... I thought there was an orange one?
If the girls love it that much, maybe you mean you blue "pill"?
23 bucks.. i thought it was $500,-?
And yes I'm happy you live in So Cal too (rub it in why don't ya) but what the hell does it have to do with Maxflo air intake???
Concentrate boy, put that Ganja down and focus!
You can do it!
Anyone got an update on this version? I watched the vid and it sound somewhat diff. 1.5 liters more air??
Hapich- I'm sometimes in your area , maybe after the install I can check it out..

Carrera Power Kit - X51 for the 997 ( the 996 version is similar) $16,900 from the factory.
Comprised of modified cylinder heads, carbon-fiber air filter casing (upper part), new variable resonance intake manifold with six tuning flaps, sports exhaust system featuring specially designed twin dual-tube tailpipes and modified engine management.
What tool do I need to remove the MAF housing ? The part the MAF clips into. It looks like it should be a tamper resistant star bit. Is this right and what size?
Thanks anybody.
T20 tamper resistant Torx star bit.
It's going to be a real production when I get this thing installed. Pictures, video. I might make an Anime short film.
The X51 kit is what you do if you want 25 horsepower with
zero compromise in noise, fuel efficiency, emissions, durability, and reliabilitiy, and you want to enjoy most of that extra power across the rpm spectrum, and money is no object
. It's not the only way to get 25
peak
horsepower, though even still it's probably the best.
Last time I checked, they don't sell power in dollars per hp. They sell it in compromises. With the X51 package, they chose to compromise only one thing: the price.
Wait a minute eclou! Your avatar is from avatar!!! You are a witty man. How did you come up with that?? Congrats
Beer and babes Mr. Sid, you know whats up.. Full bottle full throttle !! Hahaha. It's a joke. Don't drink and drive.
design is a has been....... hp increase not likeley, more noise yes, torque and power down for sure. if you have an aero, stay away from mods like these, your ducting works much better than these bs upgrades. however, this is better then the kn imo, however, 10 years old, design offered back in the day by many different distributors.
