Suspected cause
(Unless done recently car will need this done.) A coolant fluid drain and refill would be nice (though probably a long shot).
Leading evidence: 'long shot)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'long shot)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). Ofter resulting in a service/repair....when only one guy owns a car he/she gets used to the noises and even if they get worse, they "know its nothing" and ends up being neglected....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I found this car.... Dealer tells me it had 3 owners. Kinda too many for the mileage don't you think?
I've seen it on Autotrader.com for a while now... anyone know anything about this car?
Thanks
Many people drive very, very few miles per year. Three owners might not be that bad for this car. I don't think there is an issue on the number of owners if you have full documentation of the service history.
nice looking car - I have a theory about multiple owners:
each new owner is all amp'd to take the best care of the car as they can, they ofter run to the shop with every noise and have it checked out. Ofter resulting in a service/repair....when only one guy owns a car he/she gets used to the noises and even if they get worse, they "know its nothing" and ends up being neglected....
there are owners that are dilligent... but I like a car that has had a few owners (and a house - where each owner decorates and updates the house a little -vs- someone just living in it for 40 years in some wierd time warp)
my $.02
Ivangene,
That's a good way of looking at it. But there is also a flipside to it which I don't like too much.
I'll look into the history of the car later today when I get home. Hopefully all is well...
The dealer also told me that when he got it, the rims were painted black, and he got them re-finished to the original color...
Nice looking C4S.
Call me paranoid but especially since you are not local & it's in NO I'd check it out for possible flood damage from Katrina, as there were many such cars on the market. If not then I'd try to get 411 on the dealer from this forum or elsewhere on the net.
I lived in New Orleans for 11 years, and I can tell you that the roads are some of the worst I have ever seen... just FYI. That car (if in NOLA the whole time) lived a hard life...
I am not saying this is a good car, but I am saying multiple owners is not always bad, and one owner is not always good - read the post called 996 C4S Issuesssssssssssss
Less than 5K miles per year. That's a bit on the low side mileage wise. 6K to 9K more common. Price seems a mite high but I'm not current on the Carrera 4S market.
Anyhow, not the miles per se or the number of owners per se but the condition of the car.
If dealer knows car has had 3 owners he knows the owners and he knows who serviced the car. Probably he did. While he can't share personal info about the previous owners he can tell you want services and other work the car has had over the years.
You want to see regular (or at least not too irregular) servicing done. Oil/filter changes. Brake fluid flush/bleed. At least one alignment. (Unless done recently car will need this done.) A coolant fluid drain and refill would be nice (though probably a long shot). Too much to hope for the transmission and diff fluids have been changed. But hey, it might have been done.
Spark plugs should have been changed at least once based on time and probably due again (every 4 years or 30K to 40K miles). Serpentine belt probably ready to be changed if it hasn't been done.
Seeing the services and the miles at each helps give you some warm fuzzies the car's mileage is ok too.
Use your nose in a warm/hot car to try to catch whiff of flood waters. If interior has overpowering smell of some air-freshener or some other fragrance thingie someone could be trying to hide smell of flood water. Flood water nasty stuff.
Check front trunk too. Shine light under seats to see if carpets nice under seats.
Get your nose down on carpets and give them a smell. Check carpets at bottom of either door too. Check if seats and carpets are new. If they're new...
Pics such as they are don't show anything alarming. Check panel gaps nice and even. Check fit of lights, front and rear, trunk lid and engine cover lid, doors, etc.
Take proper tools with you and remove plastic cowl covers from base of windshield and look at area under plastic to see if full of trash, debris or pristine. Check condition of battery box. Remove battery box plastic cover to do this.
Check all 4 wheels/tires and brakes for damage, excessive wear. Be sure tires are not getting on in years. 6 years old and they're ready to be replaced.
Shine light under car looking at tops of the plastic under car panels for any signs of flood trash. Look for signs panels are new, if fastener hardware is new. If new panels, if new hardware, they're new for a reason.
Sincerely,
Macster.
I have a theory, no wait, I have proof!
Every time I take anything to the dealer, and this is only when the factory warranty is in effect, to have an issue looked at and adjusted or repaired, it seems something else gets damaged, broken or just not put back together exactly right. So, if the car goes to the dealer for every little issue, and often, it comes back with lots of other little things damaged and broken. That most people don't notice.
I see this type of thing daily at work also, only on motorcycles. Even things the selling dealer does on assembly of a brand new machine. I'm convinced, most techs don't know which end of the wrench to hold!
Nice looking sharp car, like it a lot even thought I'm not a C4 fan.
Also I prefer those leather seats over the "comfort leather" style, wears much better imho.
Do your research about possible flood damage then get a price around $32k....?
Then come back and post more pics -- that's a sharp car.
This was one I was considering.
The Carfax shows it is a CA/NV car. And was not there during Katrina. It is supposedly on consignment for a friend of his. It has a odometer discrepancy on the CF. Best price I could get out of them was 35,500. It is light on options and the seats show some wear. Usually those non supple seats hold up better.
Not a Katrina car then takes some of the fear away. Odo. discrepancy... Not unknown for a mis-typed mileage number to cause this.
I'd have to see CarFax report and then call around to various dealers to learn what servicing car had and at what miles to see if the odo discrepancy a typo or possibly something more sinister.
Or just give the car a miss and resume looking. There are quite a few cars available and no reason to waste too much time on car with a questionable past unless car pushes all the right buttons and worth extra time and trouble to remove the questions about its past.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Car "looks" very clean, kinda rare color, but a full PPI is in-order to make sure there is no hidden issues, at least for the big ones... The mileage is not that bad, I mean not too low, worth checking-in more, good-luck.
Great color combo, it is not an easy combination to find.
- drive the car at high speed on highway, if it feel sale, no shaking
Unfortunately I see the dealer already put shoe shine on all plastic and certainly also detailed the engine, so if anything leaks or look dull you will not see it. I'd always ask if the car was detailed with shine products as problem unfortunately will only appear when it wears off. Wit that much shine you cannot even tell how the car really look.
If the PPI is good, you have all the service records, and 3 POs doesn't bother you....pull the trigger and buy the C4. I find it difficult to expect a seller to do a hard price negotiation long distance over the phone.I like the C4 pictured, do it.
Hahhahah really?
We could of played a bidding war game with him and you could of got the car for cheaper if you wanted too...
But if you bought it... Congrats! I'm still taking my time...
Yes
They have been great to work with. I was going to get the Gray one but they all the sudden wanted 1400 more than we agreed upon. Told them to stick it.
I am working with CarFax to get the record straight. It was a typo.
