Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My other reason for wonder was that I haven't been able to figure if the coolant level is decreasing because the system is still burping because of the not so swift way that I filled the system.
Leading evidence: 'Replace few other coolant related seals and such' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill system' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Last night, I ran the car to operating temp, turned the car off, let it sit for about 30-45 minutes, then carefully took the coolant cap off (using welding gloves in case of spray, also the engine was almost completely cooled by this point).

The coolant system is being pressure tested all the time the engine is running.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

^^^ This post makes no sense, when the engine is running the cooling system is under pressure....so no difference from pressure testing with gauge.
I have been doing some work on my cars coolant system. Everything is running fine however I want to confirm that I do not have any leaks in my coolant system. I realize that you can buy/rent pressure testers however I have to drive the car for about 2 hours this weekend and I do not have time to get a tester prior to then.
Does this make sense as a general coolant system pressure test? Last night, I ran the car to operating temp, turned the car off, let it sit for about 30-45 minutes, then carefully took the coolant cap off (using welding gloves in case of spray, also the engine was almost completely cooled by this point). When I took the coolant cap off, I got the sucking air noise for a second until the pressure equilibrated. This seems obvious that there would be no significant leak because if there were, there would be no pressure on the cap after 30-45 minutes.
Am I on track?
What is the basis for testing, are you thinking there is a problem?
The coolant system is being pressure tested all the time the engine is running.
If the level is not dropping, temperature gauge light doesn't come on and the needle is in the correct position, no signs of the most common leak points; water pump, coolant tank and radiators, the coolant cap is the latest updated part number and there are no signs of intermix, the system is tested.
Hopefully eveything is ok.
I recently changed the pump and expansion tank. I also changed a few other coolant related seals and such. I just wanted to make sure that my work was satisfactory. I had a slight concern because I saw a little coolant on the ground after he work was finished however I think that was old stuff that was laying around from when I changed the parts. I don't think there is any leak however I am just trying to make sure before I go on an extended drive.
My other reason for wonder was that I haven't been able to figure if the coolant level is decreasing because the system is still burping because of the not so swift way that I filled the system.
I am pretty sure that I don't have a leak, just wondering.
If you didn't have a leak, then the coolant level would not be decreasing. If the heater is working normally and the temperature gauge sits on 180 (+/-) then the system should have bled itself out.
Are you adding coolant? Don't forget the level will apear lower with the coolant at normal operating temperature.
I think this method was tried at 3 mile island a while back. A more passive way is to observe for leaks and watch the temp. If there is reduced pressure the temp will be higher from what I have seen in other model cars loosing coolant system pressure. I wouldn't take anything but an actual pressure gauge as definitive result. It is a good thing you are concerned and active on keeping track under there. Loosing coolant is a sign there is a leak since the fluids would escape more when under pressure.

If it leaks, it leaks.
