Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

3rd can take you to jail at redline, not good form in a test drive.

I've got an A3 2.0T, and they are totally different approaches to power, the 2.0T is a little more torquey at low rpms, but the flat 6 prefers the higher rpms which is why you need to test drive as above.

So I would test drive spiritedly on a twisty road, but not necessarily at high rpm's.

It was such a short test drive though but I wanted to get my first one out of the way.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It was an '02/'03 C4S 6MT with 997 C4S wheels and it was a little lower (owner told me just springs and not shocks). Coming from an '07 A4 2.0T (auto) with an APR chip I had a few observations. The owner was riding with me so I was only driving the car normally and (unfortunately) did not take it over 4000rpm.
The steering was definitely heavier but I expected that but not so heavy that I thought the power steering wasn't working. Compared to the A4 the torque felt lower but I'm guessing it's because the torque comes on around 2000rpm in the A4 and probably not until later in the C4S so I didn't feel it pull as hard as I expected it to.
It also felt heavier for some reason (maybe because it was lowered?). Engine sounded nice. I think if you try to pass someone they will know/hear it. When I pass someone in the A4 it does it much quieter (a good and bad thing). Gearbox was nice and the shifter found the gates pretty naturally. I drove my buddy's E46 325 a few years ago and that shifter felt more vague if that makes sense and the 911 didn't feel like it needed a short shift kit (don't those increase effort anyways?). I used to drive Hondas/Acuras before so am more familiar with those type of gearboxes.
It was such a short test drive though but I wanted to get my first one out of the way. Hopefully I'll be able to drive the next 911 more aggressively the next time around.
where you at ? I might have time this weekend, you can take out my car and feel the differance (since you are not an ace in it, I will also request we stay under 4500 rpm
)

**** rapping a car that is not yours, or trying to. "See what it will do" on a test ride is poor form.
That is a major reason why cars sold at dealers can have issues - too many people want to "test it out"
Test driving a car isn't really for you to decide if you
a
car, but if you want that car. You already know what it is capable of, the differences in these cars is how they handle, not how fast will can go in a straight line. So I would test drive spiritedly on a twisty road, but not necessarily at high rpm's.
Once the car is properly warmed up you can take it up to 7000 rpm without any concerns. In fact, unless you take the car over 5000 rpm's you won't get an accurate assessment of its potential.
Exactly.
The correct way to do this is as you're driving, and find a clear highway, to advise the salesperson/owner, that you'd like to get a sense of the acceleration (in a polite way).
Just don't go thrash it, but advise the person and ask for their consent so they are aware of what you're doing.
2nd gear is good for this because it will take you up to 70mph at redline.
3rd can take you to jail at redline, not good form in a test drive.

i've honestly found that in most test drives a sales person really doesn't care if you open a car up. they're trying to sell the car, and sometimes it's necessary.
private owners on the other and, understandably so, are more particular.
Next time I plan a little extra time and we can go for a spin in my car.... here is the exhaust I told you about -
really nice meeting you and I hope to see you again,
Ed
note the speed yellow hood in the background - now on the car.... turned out OK ehh?
Ah nice, Ed. Thanks again for coming out and giving me your $0.02 on that car. I can't get the sound of that Fabspeed exhaust out of my head. I kept dropping it to a lower gear on purpose just so I could accelerate and hear the rumble. Test driving without a dealer in the car is so much better.
:rofl: most wives don't care to go car shopping, where mine drives my boxster and goes on test drives. hell, i think she drives faster than i do.
Have you ever tried to fit in the back of one of these? i haven't, and it looks uncomfortable as anything. If you bring the wifey to sit in the passenger seat, there is a good chance that the salesman will just let the two of you drive the car.
Do you have pics????
Yeah the front bumper looks like a more aggresive aero kit but it also has a cutout in the middle. It's low too and would scrape on steep driveways. As far as tint goes, 35% here is legal on front windows. That is more of a 15-20% so technically not legal but lots of people go darker than 35%.
That car is super clean. The paint is nearly flawless though it looks like it has had some paint work done, I think it was for the body kit and maybe a bit of road rash. Whoever did the work did a top rate job. It is really nice. The insides look like brand new (except a bit or wear on the drivers seat) If the front looks a little "foggy" on the paint its because it has a clear bra covering many parts and the mirrors too... I also thought that was well done and might have been after a re-paint because the old owner found out how much a re-paint costs compared to a clear bra. Smart money spent IMO
I asked him to see if they would do a cpo or warranty and gave the car an overall
Then we saw a GT3 and got lost for about an hour
it was WHITE !! OMG new 997 GT3 is amazing
but we also saw a 996 track car that a guy put a hefty amount of upgrades into - still, my car was was the shiny one on the lot and even the salesman commented on it
(me likes shiny!)
I stopped in to look at the "track" car you are probably talking about. Silver 02 with X51 and brembo? It's really nice. They wouldn't budge on the price at all. It's a consignment car.
thats the one - HUGE brakes ehh!!! full GT3 suspension and the X51 package - and like 20k miles!!
OOOOHHHHH that darn price tag !!
I could shine that up - (but it would still be grey
)
I think they were asking $33,999 for the yellow cab w/ 37k miles. Any idea what a good first offer is? He told me he's only had it for a week or two even though it said "reduced" right away on their autotrader listing.
Maybe offer 30.5k? Looks like a pretty nice 911 but I think yellow can be a harder color to move. I think the black on yellow looks pretty nice and I love sport seats.
I can't believe they want 46k for that silver one. I'm thinking one could find an Anniversary Ed. with similar miles for less money. Same motor and 2 nears newer, turbo front end, rare color.
Now that I think of it. It's the end of the summer. The converts are not flying off the shelf. Offer 30k on the yellow.

Come up to Bellingham and I'll let you take a real test drive.
We don't mind if you push the cars, as long as they're warmed up.
The only thing that bugs me is the guys who get into the car cold and flog them.
We have a great route here too.
WHEW - dont need to go spend 40k I dont have
Damn... - well that is how good cars go, quick.... I dont know how you can see the difference over the internet, but someone recognized it was a nice car - well, time to drive to Bellingham !
(or buy a nice Black 99'
)
