Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know for my 04 C2 that Porsche recommends 10-40w Mobil 1. Where do you guys buy it? I can't seem to find it at any of my usual sources and I'd rather not pay dealer prices for it. Thanks...

POST 2Original post

I buy Mobil 1 in 5 gal. jugs at Wal-Mart. They usually have in the various weights that P-car owners need. Bruce

POST 3Original post

Isn't the factory fill M1 0W-40 not 10w-40? 0W40 can be found at Autozone, some Wal-Marts (not in the big jugs though) and some other auto parts stores.

POST 4Original post

OW-40 is official factory oil and is what they recommend, this much I know for sure about oil. Where it goes once it is put in the crank case I'm working on.

POST 5Original post

I think only those from Oregon and Washington will recognize the store name...but G.I. Joes has tons of it...but they never have the one that I use -- 0-40 Mobile 1...which I get over at Schucks.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just checked the owners manuel again and mine says 10-40W????? Interesting....

POST 8Original post

Had same question-which oil, checked owners manual for '99 C4, says 10w-40 accross all temp ranges. Mobil does not make it but Castrol does, $5/qt. at Autozone. That's what I'm using.

POST 9Original post

should add from my first post that I'm thinking Synthetic

POST 10Original post

You might want to consult the PCA website Tech Section. There are more recent list of recommended oils from Porsche than what was printed in the owners manual in 98-99. Synthetic is definitely the factory fill.

POST 11Original post

Manual says 10-40. Dealer says they use 0-40. I went with 0-40 because I choose to believe that the lower viscosity at lower temp will improve lubrication during start/warm up.

POST 12Original post

I'm using 0-40, which is easier on startup wear and less pollution. It's what Porsche and Moble One recommends. Never use anything that is not synthetic. I get mine at Kragen (Schuck's). It's $4 if you get it on sale. I bought over 6 cases since I have two cars using the same oil. It'll last me a couple of years.

POST 14Original post

I don't think Mobil 1 EP 10w40 is available anywhere yet. 0w40 is the factory fill on new Porsches. The Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w40 is also supposed to be excellent oil, essentially identical to Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic diesel oil. The 5w40 is available at walmart for under $20 for 5 quarts. The current factory recommendation for all Porsches is any ACEA A3 approved synthetic oil in 0w40, 5w40, or 5w50. Mobil 1 0w40 was recently changed to meet the US SM specification. They had to reduce some of the antiwear additives to meet SM. The new 0w40 MAY not be as good as it was. The new Mobil 1 "EP" oils do not meet the SM spec and have lots of good additives. I've seen the EP oil in 5w30, 10w30, and 15w50. Hopefully the 10w40 EP will be available soon.

POST 15Original post

I got M1 0W-40 at Advance Auto Parts, but at $5 per quart.

POST 16Original post

FYI......The Mobil1 EP doesn't come in 0W-40.

POST 17Original post

just simplify... get ur 0w-40 from the dealer they'll give u a discount after a while

POST 18Original post

That's interesting. I've got 2 cases of Mobil 1 EP 0W40 sitting in my garage.

POST 19Original post

Statman......The EP line? I couldn't find it at the auto store nor does their (Mobil1) website show they have it. Where did you pick it up at?

POST 21Original post

David are you referring to Mobil1 or Mobil1EP?

POST 22Original post

Dell, I'm not at home right now, but I ordered on-line. When I get back I'll post the url.

POST 24Original post

Dell, I have no idea. I just buy it to top of between changes at the dealer. It's the silver plastic bottles with synthetic Mobile 1 on it, 0W-40W. I was told it's the same oil as the dealer uses. Now you know everything I know. I'm living in Nashville now, maybe it's cheaper than Vegas? Hope you're doing well

POST 25Original post

THX David. I think you are referring to the non-EP Mobil1. BTW, did you go to Nashville for good? Or coming back to Vegas? Richard (RLandis) is from Nashville and on this board. Not sure if you guys have met up yet. Nice guy, but he's a yankee fan--I don't hold that against him
