Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This afternoon, while showing a friend my new C4S, we noticed a liquid dripping from the driver-side fender. It would drip only when the fan cycled on and would stop immediately after the fan cycled off. It doesn't taste like water and it doesn't look like the normal green/orange/blue coolant, but I suspect it is coolant because it feels soapy.
Has anybody ever encountered this type of issue? I've tried to search for "+fender +leak" and "+fender +coolant" but the search results are all over the place w/ the primary result pointing to coolant expansion tank leaking.
Can anybody tell me how to remove the driver-side fender liner so I can inspect?
Thanks!

<raises hand>
I had this........ I need more details to be sure...FRONT? clear liquid, not water...you think it could be brake fluid or maybe oil...
I know what it is
(its a stupid $0.80 O'ring in your a/c condensor) See my thread below, FUN JOB!!!

let me know if that sounds right...and if the link works

Hmmm... I don't think it's AC related because the AC was off. It's not oily like brake fluid and the source is not from the brake lines as far as I can see. And it only happens when the engine fan is on. I actually took 2 pics:
Sorry for the size of the pics, but it was dripping this fluid on these two spots:
The forward-most drip was from the red circled area:
Thanks,

Headlight washer hose may have come lose from the headlight. Activate the headlight washer and see what happens. The headlights must be on before the washers will work.
Hmmm, now that's an interesting thought. I believe it does have headlight washers. I'll give it a shot tomorrow before I go wash it, LOL. I hope it's that, I'd rather it be that than something in the cooling system.
I was just in the garage giving it a final inspection; I looked under the car and there are no leaks. If I can't figure it out, then I'll just take it to the dealer next week and put the CPO warranty to the test.
Thanks,
///Michael
The peace of mind that comes with a CPO certification is very cool. I bought my last Audi A6 4.2 as a certified car and the CPO warranty saved me more than 1K for a broken driver's seat bracket. Add labor to that repair and I've almost cleared the added cost of the warranty.
It could be a sunroof drain (2) or other drain in the front hood area, (3, 4, or 5) but not likely. He said the fluid "feels soapy."
Second pic is what the headlight washer cover looks like.
drains is a good thought, I didnt know the roof drain came out there (or forgot)
I wrote a thread on cleaning out the drains....that could be it.
but you have CPO
LOL
Hmmm... I can't seem to reproduce the dripping when fan on issue. And looking at the coolant reservoir, I'm not losing any coolant.
I wonder if it's just stagnant water that's collected back there from when the dealer detailed the car.

Michael,
If it was the coolant tank leaking, the moisture would be by the left REAR tire, not the front. I think that the fan (running or not) has nothing to do with the leak. Just my opinion.
BTW, I live in Lewisville, near IH-35(E) and FM 3040.
Yeah, I think you're right. After researching RMS, IMS, and cooling issues, I'm a little trigger happy about it.
Thanks for the help everybody!

Michael,
Did you ever figure out this issue? I have about a cup of fluid come down the rear of the fenderwell and then stop leaking. The coolant tank is still at max...
-td
Nope, mine hasn't leaked since that day. I guess my problem may have just been standing soapy water from the the wash/detail that Park Place performed right before I took delivery. It definitely wasn't water and felt a little soapy, but it did not smell or look like coolant. And after my buddy gave it a nice flogging, the fans coming probably blew that standing water out. :shrug:
