Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm having H&R springs installed next week to address that issue.

Some Porsche shops here doesn't even know or have the tool to adjust those.

Make sure that the shop who does this is also knowledgeable with the rear allgnment specially the kinematic setting of the LSA(Light-Stable-Agile rear suspension).

I test drove a boxster right before I signed the papers on my 911 and I wondered if perhaps I should go the other way.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi! I'm a new 996 convert from a boxter. I really see the difference in performance but suspension seems a bit floaty, probably because I'm used to the mid-engine configuration of the boxster.

Welcome! I test drove a boxster right before I signed the papers on my 911 and I wondered if perhaps I should go the other way. I think I made the right choice though.
yes - and non-porsche owners look at me as though I'm mad when I say this.
When I got back in my boxster just before selling it it felt so nimble and had unerring handling.
My US 996 does feel as though its carrying a few extra pounds that it should not be.
Unfortunately I can't justify the expense of the skinny version (GT3) :-(
I also upgrated from a Boxster S and can relate to your comments. I'm having H&R springs installed next week to address that issue. I'll post my findings after the install and a few miles.
Welcome aboard the 911 club, you won't regret it, although you may miss the drop top....
The floating feeling is beacause in the US, the 996 suspension is elevated to protect you from run in's with the rear of semi-trucks. The typical american driver doesn't notice the center of gravity is off. This is what gives a sense of floating and lack of control around accelerated corners. If you upgraded the suspension to PSS9 or X74 you would feel like you are in a different car. That is why everyone that changes their suspension is such a raving fan of the mod.
Jose - Nice looking P-car, and welcome to the Porsche Phunny Pharm and Zoo! We are glad to have you join us. What, if any, MODS are you planning? Simple and rewarding is the OEM or B&M Short Shifter Kit MOD. You'll love it! Did you have the SSK in your Boxter?
Welcome! I like the supple ride in 996. Although it isn't rock hard, it still corners like it should. If you want to feel the road more, get PSS9 but be prepared to a jarring ride again.
My GF loves the 996 since it doesn't bounce around and can't feel every pebble anymore.
Welcome Jose! Try H&R springs and Bilstein Sports shocks. That combination wouldn't be harsh but at the same time should give you less floatiness due to the shorter and progressive springs.
Jose,
I went through EXACTLY the same thing. I used to own a Boxster S, and when I bought my 02 996 Targa, I hated it for about two months. The car did not handle well, it floated around, it felt too heavy and it did not feel like the sports car my Boxster S had been. I installed PSS9s and GT3 adjustable sway bars, and I dropped the car down quite a bit. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Boxsters, but my 996 now handles the way it should have handled from the factory. Fix the suspension and your view of your 996 will change . . .
Hi guys! thank you all for your comments. My car is RoW, is the suspension different from a US model car? I will check out Pss9. As for modifications...I got to have a louder exhaust Fabspeed or PSE, although I'm more inclined with the PSE for driving around the city. Next would updated clear headlights and rear lights. What do you guys think about thr RUF front bumper and side skirts?
Like I wrote above, I went for the Bilstein/H&R set up 'cause I didn't want to feel when the car runs over cigarette butts
j/k Besides the H&R springs are progressive so they do help in cornering.
PSS9s would have been overkill for me. But if you do get them(PSS9s), get a very knowledgeable shop to do the corner balancing. Remember they have to disconnect the anti-sway bars when they do this. 5/8s tank of fuel and remove what you don't need in the car. Put your weight in the driver's seat maybe with barbel weights. After the corner balancing, thats when you get the allignment. Make sure that the shop who does this is also knowledgeable with the rear allgnment specially the kinematic setting of the LSA(Light-Stable-Agile rear suspension). The 993s & 996s has those LSAs which works marvels in cornering but very tricky in allignment. Some Porsche shops here doesn't even know or have the tool to adjust those.
Good Luck and Happy Motoring.
