I think Ed mentioned it earlier in the thread too, some recommended cleaning of the contact points under the seat to dramatically decrease the airbag fault occurrence.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Wondering if anyone in the Seattle / Eastside area with Durametric or PST2 that can help read/reset my airbag light. I can bring a 6 packs as token of my appreciation!
Thanks,
Herb
Try also posting on 6speed - northwest region, more local over there, If I had it you could use mine... sorry
you know there is a TSB RE: this issue on Renntech too...
Ed, thanks for the suggestion, yea I was just in the NW section of 6sp and was considering to post there too.
I read on Renntech of the suggestions to remedy this nagging issue. I never had it occur until fiance adjusted chair today.. Go figure..
Anyone else can help, please PM me. Thx!
My car had a black sticker covering the light for like 4 years now (before I bought it, while I had it and with the new owner (who is the one that put the sticker on in the first place)
cheezy, but effective
I have been drinking - sorry if I slurred that and put 3 parynthasis
Zmonsta,
I have a cheep OBD2 device from Shucks that I bought two years ago that will rest the CEL. It will read the basic code such as Evap or in my recent troubles Cooling Sys Errors and reset them. I would be happy to let you use it to do the reset... but don't you want to know if there is something more going on?
When I have had the CEL on I used the device to ease my concern for driving the car... but then drove to Chris's and they put the Porsche Test box on it to confirm the sub codes and direct us to a solution. On two occasions they have done this at no charge and no waiting, then sent me off to decide my plan for repairs, even suggesting I shop for best price parts on my own (Sunset). I would think there might be a friendly independent - maybe John Walker over your way and see what they say.
But if you just want a reset ... I'll take that 6 Pack - Guinness Please.
@Ed, that's a good suggestion, I honestly thought bout it... But I fig since it's a safety device, I think I will try to address it properly... btw: I use that many parenthesis even when I ain't drinking.. hahah
Thanks Jacks911 for the offer. I have an OBDII scanner/reader/reset device too, but it won't reset the airbag light.
Good call on Chris's, I have never been, but have heard great things bout them. I will give them a try if I don't find anything else.. or I may just break down and buy a Durametric..
Plus 1 on Chris's German.
You might try just driving over to Group 2 in Magnolia since its Saturday and they won't answer the phone. But almost always someone is there just messing around with their own stuff. A 6-pack goes a long way in those situations
Thanks Kie, I've been wanting to do an alignment on my 330cic lowered with PSS over there at Group 2, just haven't made it a priority. I will check them out.
Hey Zmonsta -
I don't have the gear you are after, but I figured this would be a good place for my first post since many of the WA state guys are here, I just picked up a 2001 Carerra, and my first car was a 1970 240Z.
I can also vouch for Chris's German. I had an '82 911SC a few years back, and he has always done excellent work at a fair price.
Are there any regular Porsche meetings happening in the greater Seattle area?
Cheers,
- Tim
HEY Tim !!
I saw your car in the shop
Love Bassalt! That thing looks BRAND NEW inside and out!!
I think you did VERY WELL! Cant believe its been sitting around??? anyhow, NICE !!
Welcome to RL, This is a great place to get info / learn about the M96 / laugh / poke fun at people
/ and IMO enjoy your car.
We have a Skills day on Jan 8th that should be a blast, if interested... check out PNWR.org
See ya soon!!
Ed
Hey Ed -
So do you work at Chris's or just hang out there a lot?
Yeah, I think the 911 I just bought is a real gem. I wasn't sure about the tip tran, but I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would. And since this is going to be a car I drive regularly, the tip is a good thing during the almost all day traffic around here.
I'm going to do my best to get out to that skills class on the 8th.
Quick question: I notice that after a spirited drive in manual shift mode, the engine smells hot and there is a slight odor of what seems like burnt clutch. Is this normal?
- Tim
I barely ever go there (does twice a day count as barely?)
that smell.... oh that smell....
It means you drove it correctly! - others will pop in and confirm it... it's a good thing
Pretty sure I will be there the 8th - I picked up my new helmet and I am needing a bit of fun with the group. It's a really well run program and I assure you the best $60 you will spend on your car - but beware, completely addictive!
So I need a helmet for the skills class? I've literally spent just about my last dime to get this car in the middle of gift giving season, so I don't know I will have the cash for helmet + fee. Can I come as a spectator?
You can rent one for $25 - or if you are a medium and know someone who just bought a new one (
) borrow one for the day
spectating is free and if you come late in the day I might be able to get you a trip around the open coarse....
I know about the money whoes, got me a new fuel pump Friday to the tune of nearly 3 bones!
Hi, I'm a fairly new member here as well. I would love to come to the next PNW meet as well. Do you have to be a PCA member to attend?
Sorry to thread jack.
okay, back on topic... I also have the airbag light on. I had it reset a couple times but eventually it comes back on. I would like this airbag code read/reset as well to get to the bottom of this.
I am not 100% sure,
check out PNWR.org under the "at the track" tab, skills day... at the bottom is an email link, contact them and see what they say, I can offer an invite but not sure how to do it, I think beer is somehow involved
classes fill up fast normally so take a loot and see what happens - IIRC there are membership open dates and non-member dates which means non-members can go but have to wait a few days to give members first shot
let me know if you need help, I can always get answers quick (I am on the hot (read irratating guy) line
)
No worries about jacking this thread!
Welcome to RL, Basalt and Ultraman.
@ Basalt, glad to hear you had a 240z too, I love mine and just can't get rid of it.. Thought it's now residing in Cali, I just can't bare to keep it up here out in the rainy/wet elements.. I keep it down there for track days..
@ Ultraman, regarding the airbag light, check out the Renntech forums. I think Ed mentioned it earlier in the thread too, some recommended cleaning of the contact points under the seat to dramatically decrease the airbag fault occurrence.
you went Oct 31st?
I really wanted to but that was just not gonna fly with the family - glad you got out...
Sorry Herb for messing up your thread BUT on the bright side it it keeping it up top
So Jon, what did you think? Worth the $ ?
best damn money I ever spent.. so much fun, and learned so much. I might try to get to this one, im definitely going to go to 2 more before trying a DE.
This is quickly turning into a PNW thread.. lol :-)
Went to one skills day with my better half a couple of years ago in the 993. We had a blast. Best money I've ever spent. I can't make the 8th session without doing my AOS and a LN Engineering upgrade. New car to me and I know how hard a day at a skill session can be on an un-prepped car! I may try to volunteer to be part of the fun and risk my life replacing cones.
Incidentally, I bought Dennis W's car- a black c4 cab with a bunch o' miles for a very decent price. Anyone familiar with it? I guess he was really active in the 996 crowd...
Ivangene, that beer will have to wait a bit until after the holidays- too many family responsibilities. Maybe we can get a group together.
