I bought the small LED "bulbs" to replace the incandescent running lights - and discovered that one of the plastic sockets is busted up and missing the little plastic triangle shaped tabs that secure the socket in place in the hole.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought the small LED "bulbs" to replace the incandescent running lights - and discovered that one of the plastic sockets is busted up and missing the little plastic triangle shaped tabs that secure the socket in place in the hole. Anybody have any ideas on replacing JUST the socket? I don't want to shell out $XYZ for a whole Litronic lamp assembly. It seems the wires will have to be spliced IF a new socket is available. TIA, DC4S

POST 2Original post

I had the same thing happen and Porsche told me to spend $XYZ for a new headlight.... I found one at DC Auto for $15 shipped - note mine was on MKI and simply plugged into the headlight assy, not sure if yours is the same or not? GL

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I checked DC - nice breakdown of parts per the P diagrams. Unfortunately the bulb socket is not called out. It is part of the internal wiring loom - which is sealed in the headlamp - so no luck there. The bulb socket looks like a specialty part. I might be able to tightly wrap it with black electrical tape until it is a tight fit into the headlight assembly socket. That just doesn't seem like a proper fix though. DC4

POST 4Original post

just so you know... the 996 was the same way, but I called and talked to someone who went out and pulled one off - I didnt say it was not listed, i just said I need the socket on the bottom of the headlight for the blinker... they were easy to work with and I had it 3 days later - might be worth a call.
