Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone do or use anything to protect their leather seats during a track event or DE? I just got some new seats and have a DE event tomorrow and was thinking how I could protect the leather with instructors in and out of the car all day? I have an old set of "fake" sheepskin seats covers I could throw on but would that affect me by sliding around? Any input or ideas greatly appreciated!

POST 3Original post

Google "grip shelf liner" Get the thick non-slip kind.

POST 5Original post

I don't think you're going to see any wear. On the standard DE an instructor will be in and out of the car 4-5 times. I have Euro GT3 seats that have high bolsters and are very tough to get in and out of without rubbing. I have lots of passengers in and out of the car and don't see any wear.

POST 6Original post

I would just lexol the leather before, then lexol cleaner and leather preservative again after the DE

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Didn't think I was going to get beat up so good on this one. Thanks for comments and suggestions. I was mainly concerned about anything like buttons, zippers, etc. that might mark up the leather? Sounds like I'm just over-reacting!

No you're not over reacting. I share your concerns. I value my car. Its my life savings and passion. /One of my instructors before sweat hard. Everytime he leaves my seat wet. I had towel ready for that

POST 10Original post

If you drive *that* crazy - just insist he wear depends. Problem solved!

Mikey..are you sure the dampness in the right hand seat was sweat????? Remember, I probably know them...

Quotes source post: 6491856

Ted, you have a race car with plastic seats... no worries with that

POST 13Original post

Racesx, are you aware they'll also make you take out your floormats? The good news is that when you put your floormats back in after the track session, it will hide all that dirt and grease that was tracked in...

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6491258

Zippers? I thought the only thing we HAD to wear was a helmet??

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6491900

Nope, floor mats stayed in the car! No question about removing them at all!

POST 17Original post

I say just go and enjoy your car, first and formost. I DE my 996 and I find much more wear on my seats from my daily wear. The bottom line is if want your original seats to remain in pristine condition perhaps you should get track seats. D_Man

when you find the mat stuck under your brake pedal and they will eventually, you be very very sorry you didn't take them out.

POST 20Original post

I say, cover the seats in vaseline, then they'll be nice and buttery soft by the time the event is done. Zippers will slide right off!

Mine are anchored to the seat bolts with clips, but you bring up a good point!

+1,000,000,000,000,000,000 Also, once your mat gets stuck under the brake pedal, you're going to soil your seat... right before you hit the wall. Sorry, but mats have to come out imho.

John (mooty) knows of what he speaks. He spends as much time IN his cars as Phil spends OUT of his! If that doesn't convince you mooty knows his stuff, nothing will. Oh, one more thing, mooty has at least 3 of everything (except children and wives). Hi John, welcome to the 996 Forum.
