I was thinking of replacing my '05 A6 with this but it would become my DD since wife doesn't drive stick (our other car is an '07 A4 which is currently my DD).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was thinking of replacing my '05 A6 with this but it would become my DD since wife doesn't drive stick (our other car is an '07 A4 which is currently my DD). Commute is 37 miles one way almost all hwy (usually a couple of speed traps along the way). Part of me would love to have something like this for a DD but the other part might not want to sacrifice creature comforts.
I checked it out the other day and it looked clean on the inside too. Started her up but did not test drive it. The guy told me I could have it for the day if I wanted to get it inspected. I'm just not so sure about the yellow. They've had it for a month and they originally had it priced at $43k so the guy tells me.
I think that is a good looking car and a decent price. I had an '04 that was my DD and I had a 35 mile commute. The handling and and enjoyment of the Carrera more than made up for any reduced creature comforts. If my situation were different I would still be driving a 996 or 997.
Why her? Just looking at a car you drove by, or smartly searched for it because of an option? Did the console come like that from the factory? Those wheels couldn't have, could they?
Are you going to keep her if you buy?
I could tell you different reasons for why I like it or dislike it, but it ultimately has to be your decision. Depends on several factors right? Do you know what these cars sell for? Do you not care if your AMEX gets charged that much?
Experienced with the make? It drives very sim to its preds.
For me it is an awesome car on its way to some distinctive detailing. Wonder if the owner will blue tape it all up while at the track or drive it again and again anywhere? Either way it gepends on you.
We can talk it up for you.
PPI is first. Then doing all service to bring it up to just serviced status. Did you say it was just serviced by the PO at the same dealership that sold the car to the first owner? Going to drive it for a while next. Then comes the next service. Right? How many miles are you going to put on her. A lot? Two, three hundred dollars in fuel monthly? If you use it you have to have it serviced, and if so, is that something you really want?
Regards,
Looks like a car that has been owned by an enthusiast. Any one of us could have owned that car - looks well optioned and in good condition.
Check out the owner history and get a PPI and I think that you'll have a hell of a buy.
Good luck!
70 miles per day = ~350 wk = 1400/mo just commuting.
The 996 is fine as a DD, just a bit of a shame to put all those miles on it commuting/sitting in traffic.
(Where are you located / how's your commute?)
Keep both your Audis, and drive the P-car on Mondays and Fridays.
True, although I work 4 days/wk. Commute is 95% hwy @ 65mph avg (reverse commute). Biggest trouble are speed traps and drivers that block the passing lane. Man, a 3rd car would be the ultimate solution but I'd be stretching and also only have a 2 car garage.
I use my 996 as a DD quite often (several months over the past year) and it's totally acceptable. Mine is a cab, so I've got more noise and squeeks and whatnot in the winter, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a 12 month DD. The OP didn't bother to state where he lives, so I don't know if he will miss the quattro in inclimate weather.
I had a yellow Z06 Corvette for a few years, and it's not a bad color except that it attracts flies and bugs when you're washing it. They think it's a flower.
Go for it!
Michael
