A wierd and expensive sentiment, but not one I can change readily.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I am looking to purchase a X51 powerkit and a set of turbo brakes for my dad's 1999 996. I think the power increase and improvements will be well worth it. I hear the X51 retails for about $9000, without workmanship. Do you guys have any idea where I can order those parts? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

I don't believe the X51 is available for the 3.4 liter on the '99.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually, I think Porsche made 2 versions of the powerkit. If I am not wrong they made seperate versions for the 3.4 and the 3.6 engines. The kit is mentioned in the catalog I got from the dealers. Unfortunately, the dealers here seem to charge a "Porsche Tax" and I think it might be cheaper for me to source those parts elsewhere. I have a friend in their workshop, so I don't think the fitting will be any problem.

POST 4Original post

There are probably many other things that will improve that car's performance outside of the Porsche power products. I'd look at some of the tuners who sponsor this board and check out your options first. Just my two ponies.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That I understand. But my father would like his car full with Porsche parts. A wierd and expensive sentiment, but not one I can change readily. Thanks for the advice though.

POST 6Original post

there is an x51 for the 3.4... euro only, may have some problems ordering it... edit: its also rated at 320bhp.. increase from 296bhp... a regular 3.6 egas will get you 320bhp too much easier to just order an x51 engine from porsche... you can even get the 3.6L X51 egas retrofitted into the 99 996 if you want... just need to find a competent shop... about $18-20K i would imagine...

POST 7Original post

Tell him about the group buy!!!!! Evo supercharger.....My porsche dealer sells and installs it, close enought to a Porsche part.....Way more bang for the buck.....100 hp gain $10,000 k...or 25 hp gain $13,000 k

POST 8Original post

Why not just SC it? I know porsche parts are great, but 18-20k is a lot of cash to drop on a '99 car, don't you think. Consider porsche supension as an alternative, will wake up the car and be "all porsche."

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That has already been done. The ROW M030s are really worth it. It really does wake up the car, but somehow leaves tractable around town. It's just that the extra power is desired, and the added comfort of having official parts is quite highly valued, the car, after all, is my dad's retirement gift to himself and he intends to keep it for at least a decade. Furthermore the aftermarket scene where I am isn't so hot. If anything goes wrong with the SC, or if it requires any regular servicing, I'd be stuck, I don't think any workshop in Singapore would be willing or able to handle the car. As a result, I am left with only the official Porsche options, and as the dealer here charges quite a substantial "Porsche Tax", I am forced to source for the parts elsewhere.

POST 10Original post

Paul: Why not use the money being considered for the X51 package together with selling your dad's '99 996, and move your dad into an '02 or later 996. It'll get you to the hp you were going to get out of adding the X51, plus a bunch more refinements. Just a thought. But I must admit X51 on a 3.6L is simply amazing. My 2 pennies.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your advice. I've located what seems to be a reasonably priced source for the powerkit. I'm thinking of purchasing from Carnewal: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm . It seems that they are based in Belgium, and charge in Euros, has anyone had any experience with them? Thanks once again.

POST 13Original post

I've got a set of 2002 Big red front brake calipers on ebay right now for NO RESERVE! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMESE%3AIT

POST 14Original post

There are a few companies that I have found are an absolute pleasure to do business with. Carnewal is one of the best... hmmm, BumperPlugs seems to be right up there too... If you check around on the forums, the straightforward, helpful people will be made clear to you. I would not hesitate to do business with Gert..

POST 15Original post

I do not believe the Turbo brakes will fit a 99. I've looked around for bigger brakes, and have settled for Performance Friction Pads. There are some companies that have offered to manufacture slotted rotors for me. Cross drilled ones crack on the track. Problem is I do not know how reliable these are. Would be nice if there was a kit that made swapping rotors and calipers a no-brainer. Gert told me a few months ago the GT3 rotors will fit with a few modifications. Never followed up on that, so if you get any suggestions from Gert, let us know. Hey, you know the 99 996 is plenty fast. Why not get good at the track first before doing anything else to it? You made the 1st modification in the right direction with the RoW M030's.

http://www.lufteknic.com/ another place to get the x51

POST 17Original post

I'd love to see a dyno chart of a pre 2002 996 before AND after the X-51 conversion.
