Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've scheduled an appointment already for the repair work but I wanted to know if it is still safe to drive my car (just from home to the repair shop).

Paranoid me, I also insisted they change the rotors, but you don't have to.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I'll be going up PCH this weekend so you can be assured I'll have this fixed before that!
Hi,
I had my brake wear indicator light go on last Friday. I've scheduled an appointment already for the repair work but I wanted to know if it is still safe to drive my car (just from home to the repair shop). The owner's manual says to not drive the car but take it right away to be repaired. It doesn't say "How?" I should take it.
Will a small amount of additional driving just cause more wear on the rotor? Why didn't Porsche design the wear indicator to come on at such a time where you still have some meat left on the pads and not when it was all gone?
Thanks for any info you might have.
You should be fine driving it to the shop. It indicates that the pads are worn to less than required specs. You could probably drive a few more months on the brakes.
I put almost 200 extra miles on mine after the light came on and still had plenty of pad left when I changed them out. Not a recomendation but just my own experience.
There is actually quite a bit of life still left when the lights go on. Had it come noon time on a track day. Not having the guts to go on track again, I drove home. A 2 hour drive home. Brought it to the dealer Monday, they looked at it, and said it still looked OK for a several more hundred miles. I had another track weekend coming, so I insisted they change it. Paranoid me, I also insisted they change the rotors, but you don't have to.
Palting, approximatly how long do stock pads/rotors last?
Is it true that its cheaper to go thru porsche motorsport for rotors than it is to buy from a dealer?
Longevity obviously has to do with usage. I track mine a lot, so the pads (and rotors) got changed at 18k miles. I've heard someone brag that they still had original pads after 70K miles. Must be a predominantly highway cruiser.
Probably cheaper to go anywhere but the dealer. I like my dealer and service tech and didn't want the hassle of checking out the reliability of outside techs, they gave me a Cayenne for a loaner, so I considered the extra expense worth it.
Eli, you make me giggle... You must know how good of a mechanic I am if it'll cost me more if I help!
Now that I know, next time I'll at least go to you for the parts. SoCal is a bit far to drive to have my car serviced but thanks for the offer!
I figured it would be a far drive but hey I figured that I'd offer to save you 1/3 just the same...
Here are how the rates are listed.
