I checked with Tire Rack once more to see if they could match the price or come close.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You may want to check with Discount Tire Co. [phone removed]. I called Michelin yesterday to try and get more info on the PS2's and the Ribs. After deciding to go with the PS2 they said to call Tire Rack or Discount tire. I've bought from Tire Rack before and thought they were great. I called them and for the PS2 in 225/40/18 and the 265/35/18 it would be $971.00 shipped. I then call Discount Tire and spoke with a guy named Norm. He quoted me $955.00. When I said I probably wasn't ready to buy just yet, he said things were slow for them and if I wanted to buy today he would do if for $900.00 shipped. I checked with Tire Rack once more to see if they could match the price or come close. They said no and even said that Discount Tire was a good company and if they could do it for $900.00, then I should jump on it. So I ordered from Discount. I have absolutely no affiliation with Discount Tire Co. I just thought I would pass along the info. Mabey someone else can get a good deal.
FWIW. Michelin, Tire Rack and Discount tire co. all said that the PS2 was the way to go.
I have had huge problems with Discount tire, and would NEVER use them again. AFter recieving a defective tire from them, They lied about promised time, while in the interum, I had to have a rental car in longer based on reliance, as I wouldn't drive on a spare etc. In the end I had to speak with the district manager and the whole issue only was resolved after 3 months! only after he verified that the manager and the employee were both lying by facts I gave and had to impress on him. Rediculous.
For whatever it's worth, I've had good luck with Discount Tire. I usually deal with a local outlet, and they meet or beat Tire Rack's price, plus I don't have to worry about shipping, etc.
Recently, though, I ordered a set of tires for a BMW from Tire Rack. They had a slightly better price than Discount Tire, and said the local installer would charge about $20 per tire for installation. My local installer managed to inflate the bill to a rather outrageous $175 for installation. So I actually ended up paying more from Tire Rack--just my experience.
That stinks but the local installer charged you more not TR. The argument of reliance can be made but....
Re: Discount Tire
I might have been just the outlier situation, however it was enough of a PITA that I don't want to have it occur again. FWIW I have had 2 bfg comp ta KD be defective for the same reason, defective belt in in the tread etc. It basically made the tire like driving on an inner tube, i.e. no sidewall!
Discount Tire Center in Newport Beach, CA had Dunlop SP9090's for the rear of my '99. The 265/35-18's as installed cost about $25 per tire more than Tire Rack would have cost but the tires were there in two days. The pressures were set to spec, balance is right and all went well. They even found a tack, luckily not a nail, in one of the front tires. No leak.
The BMW dealer I took my X5 to couldn't even get the pressures set to spec and I put in writing what they should have been set at.
I will also say in support of Discount Tire that they are the only chain I've seen that religously hand torques the wheel bolts to spec. Maybe I've just been lucky, but that's my experience at two locations...
