The good news is the car is Porsche certified.......the bad news is I just found out it had the RMS replaced 100 miles ago.

I initially was concerned when i first saw that the seal was replaced, but they told me it was wet and not actually dripping.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking at purchasing a 2002 996 C2 Coupe for a daily driver. (No I am not selling my Boxster, it will remain my garage queen!) The good news is the car is Porsche certified.......the bad news is I just found out it had the RMS replaced 100 miles ago. For those of you that have had this problem (and those that have not, feel free to chime in).........would you still do the deal or wait for a car with a "dry" RMS? How often do these replacements turn into "Multiple events" or Engine replacements? Let me know what you guys and gals think!

POST 3Original post

I got my 02 coupe with 14000 miles. When i went to pick it up from the dealer, i noticed that during the certification process, the seal was replaced. BTW, they put in a new clutch as well. That was in october. Car now has 21000 on it and has only burned a half a quart, based on digital measuring and was almost up to upper line on the dipstick. I initially was concerned when i first saw that the seal was replaced, but they told me it was wet and not actually dripping. I think theyt wanted to kget the warranty work from it. Anyway, I don't think it is a big deal. You are still coverred by porsche, and if it happens again, get it fixed again. Worse case scenario, you get a new engine, or dump the car before the warranty runs out. Jeff

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More info!!!! The seller just called me.........it is NOT the RMS that was replaced, it is the "Front Crank" seal. Have any of you heard of this? How big a problem is this? Thanks in advance!!!

POST 5Original post

I wouldn't worry about it. since it's not a a recurring issue and it's now addressed. Besides, if it fails again, you've got a warranty for 2-3 yrs. Use it as a negotiation point though to get a good price.
