I haven't found a car that I can't comfortably drive yet, so like you, I'm confused as to why so many people have so much trouble with hitting their heads on the ceilings of cars; wouldn't a normal person adjust the seat down so their head isn't touching anything?

I've been searching for an addition to the 996 and maybe replace my existing dd and this may be a good choice.

radio, heated and cooled sport seats, power EVERYTHING.....its a hoot to drive, handles great and it'll run forever....even when I do get something with a few turbos in it, I'll probably keep this as well.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2006 Lexus IS350 with 18000 miles. New MSRP was $47K. Got it for a STEAL. Black/Black, Aluminum accents (NO WOOD!) RWD, 306HP V6...paddle shifters, sport tuned suspension, sports package, Mark Levinson Audio system, Nav, push button starter, keyless entry, bluetooth, Sat. radio, heated and cooled sport seats, power EVERYTHING.....its a hoot to drive, handles great and it'll run forever....even when I do get something with a few turbos in it, I'll probably keep this as well. I'll still be lurking.....
Too bad, and congrats!
Too bad the 996 Cab had to go.... it is a sweet car!
Congrats on the IS350. They are nice looking cars. I've never driven one but my neighbor has maybe an '02 or '03.
Sad to see one of the nicest cabs go. I am a big fan of your tastefully done upgrades.
But I am surprise you picked up a Lexus...great fit and finish but it is not a drivers car. Steering is kind of numb and way too quite for me. Its like listeing to Aerosmith and Kenny G.
i wasn't much a fan of your frankenstein 911 convertible, but hey... you get another shot here with the lexo.
comfy car, good pick-up, reliable as heck. not everything is meant to be full of feel and sporting noise dudes. slam this car on a set of dubs from HRE or something and it'll look great.
Drive an IS350. You will quickly forget its a Lexus. On the test drive my wife said she was scared in 20 seconds of me hitting the paddle shifters. Steering feel is excellent. I HATED her GS and was soooo happy the day we got rid of it. Comfy but it felt like someone else was driving it the seerung was so numb. Not this one. Its no Carrera, but its no boat either...
Still overpriced, why didn't you just get a used Camry.
Funny to see people excited about paddle shifters, obviously never drove DSG.
Gotta hand it to the couple from Alaska though, they'll have quite a trip back.
I did drive an Audi DSG...This is just as fast shifting...and what Camry has 300+HP STOCK...LOL...funny, its probably faster than MOST C2's, especially off the line...lol...
yea the lexus shifting is very very quick even with a torque converter. i think this is the point you guys are trying to split hairs over. it doesn't blip on the downshift.
i wish it had it. when you downshift, you can feel the jerkiness from the lack of a blip. but honestly i'd leave this car in full auto mode all the time.
Congrats on the new car. You managed to get that IS350 for under $30K??! You must be one heck of a thief! Drove one when it first came out, and was very impressed with the handling and off-the-line push. All of the Lexus attributes certainly don't hurt either. I can't wait to sample the new IS-F.
Eehhh....come on now...don't go talking about P cars like that now that you drive a Lexus. 306hp 3527lbs is not match for any 996.
0-60 mph: 5.40 sec
0-100 km/h (62.1 mph): 5.77 sec
0-quarter-mile: 13.99 sec @ 99.6 mph
but jake, on the street since we are monkey line racing here qb style... if that lexus got a jump of any kind, it'll take a while for you to overtake it enough to realize dude this car is pretty fuqin quick.
Yeh... of course...but with all things equal and that is the only way these discussion make sense.
Shifting and human reaction place a big part.
Here is a sample of a stock Evo leading a Z06 in the Quarter mile

Dude, he had a C4 Cab before this--the slowest/heaviest of the 996 models. With an automatic transmission, I don't doubt that an IS350 could easily get the jump on a 996 that wasn't being shifted perfectly.
FIrst off, I will have ANOTHER P Car when the time is right so I am not coming on here to bash Porsches...I am just saying that this is a quick car, and its NOT a Camry...and 5.4 seconds is actually conservative MANY proven runs under 5 seconds on stock IS350's and unlike a Porsche, a chip, intake and exhaust WILL get you 20-30HP easily. Its so funny how people get soooo sensitive when someone mentions comparable performance from another brand...sheesh...I am a CAR enthusiast and this is a cool car. Unless you have driven one, dont bash it. To be fair though I do find the steering MORE responsive on the Lexus. So a $75k sports car is .4 seconds faster in a quarter mile than a $45k 4 door sedan. ALOT to be proud about.
congrats on your purchase newport. She is beautiful. Do keep us updated on the car. Its amazing how some people can't appreciate the good each make is able to offer.
Great car and congrats!
I was close to buying an IS350 last fall, but there were 2 deal-breakers:
1) No folding rear seats. If I buy a sedan, I need that extra practicality.
2) I don't fit (??). I'm only 5'10", but I guess I must have short legs and a long torso. Even with the seat adjusted all the way down, my hair would just scrape the roof of the car.
I'm about 6'-1"/200 lbs. and am always told that I won't be able to fit in my sports cars (996 and Miata). I've determined that I must adjust the seat completely differently than others as I have NO problem fitting in cars. Here's what I do:
1) Rear of seat base all the way down
2) Front of seat base all the way up
3) Back of seat reclined to my liking
4) "Overall" seat position based off of my wrists resting on top of steering wheel
You sit "deeper" into the seat, kind of like in a Dodge Viper. I haven't found a car that I can't comfortably drive yet, so like you, I'm confused as to why so many people have so much trouble with hitting their heads on the ceilings of cars; wouldn't a normal person adjust the seat down so their head isn't touching anything? You and I are living proof that it can be done, rather easily at that.
As mentioned in my post, the seat was already positioned all the way down. The salesman couldn't help either. He offered to hack the seat brackets to reduce the seat height by 1".
Perhaps I could resolve the issue by reclining the seat so that my head is looking out the backseat window, but that isn't exactly comfortable.
Now Now...you know I'm a fan of your x P car..LOL
I'n not bashing no Lexus but just trying to get you back into a Porsche. One must agree that even a fine automobile like the Lexus, is still at a different level from the Porsche. Many have compare the IS350 to the Bimmer but it came short once again.
I also own a Saab Viggen so I am far from being baise and definitely not sensitive. Sorry for voicing my opinion.
Nice one man, provide some more feedback as time goes. I've been searching for an addition to the 996 and maybe replace my existing dd and this may be a good choice.
Do you have any more shots of the car?
No prob....and THANKS for trying to get me back in Pcar land....I'll be back soon enough, but the IS350 is FUN....just went to dinner with the wife in it and it was fun actually using the voice commands to dial numbers and route the navigation as well as adjust the temp with voice commands....fun stuff. Even when I do get another Pcar, I'll keep this one.
lol... i think its pretty cool that RLs are actually willing to give props to other cars. especially japanese ones at that. its not like other boards on here where you can only drive a specific make. it seems that people here keep and open mind and understand that there are different cars that meet different needs... its quite refreshing over here...
great purchase by the way. i drove the **** out of a IS350 at the taste of lexus event and was quite impressed. also knocked over some cones and almost got kicked out
hey Newport,
Thought I hadn't seen you around too much in last few months. Too bad that the Pcar went, I know you did alot of work on it. Those lucky Alaskans got quite a deal! BTW, I think the new car looks great. And we know you'll be back soon enough... The mod bug can only lie dormant for so long.... lol
All the Best
