Indeed, I was hit and run whilst waiting to turn left in the leftmost lane at an intersection on 7th Ave in NYC and my car has been in the shop ever since.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Like Speed Demon, I was in an accident a little over a week ago. No worries as I was completely uninjured, but alas the car was not. Indeed, I was hit and run whilst waiting to turn left in the leftmost lane at an intersection on 7th Ave in NYC and my car has been in the shop ever since. Sadly, the bastard got away without any means of identifying him because he was cruising. Get this, he was speeding through the parking lane and then cut me off at the last second when he saw a parked car in front of him. Don't know what he was thinking. Of course, he didn't even bother to stop knowing he was completely at fault. Basically, he front quarter-swiped me. Anyway, I'd thought to post pictures, but just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Basically, there was damage to the left front quarter-panel, the left front wheel, the front bumper, the left radiator, etc. When it's fixed, I'm going to force myself to think of the car like the Six Million Dollar Man: bigger, better, faster, stronger.
Indeed, I'm using the opportunity to have the Row M030 suspension, a Farnbacher Loles software upgrade, and perhaps a plenum installed. Will keep you all posted as to any performance changes that I notice.
That sucks, don't you wish you could cross paths with that jerk sometime in the near future? How can people just drive away as if nothing even happened? Good luck with a refurbished and modified 'new' Pcar.

You have the perfect attitude. Why worry about something you can't change.
Too bad you didn't catch the rotten ba$tard who hit you, but very glad to hear you're OK and that you have plans to make your P-car even better. There's nothing like the right attitude in life!
I sold some of my more unusual cars that I cared about because I think that cars we drive these days should be considered expendable. If I'm not prepared to total the car & walk away from it, I shouldn't be driving it....and, I don't keep cars for investment or as art.
Would be nice to catch the jerk. I met a guy last year who kept a small video camera mounted on his dash. He had already turned over evidence of drunken or crazy driving behavior several times to the hwy patrol. I'd hate to think that's what we're coming to. People's lack of responsibility & self-control will just encourage an Orwellian State.
Sorry to hear that Edward, Man! those guys are just losers without any regards for others, but looks like your car will be repaired in no time with new OEM "upgrade" parts for the better
Cheers,
What a piece of caca. Sorry to read of your accident, but your outlook on it is great. Seem like you are determined to make a positive come out of this, no better outlook to have.
GL on your bionic 996
Sorry about your accident.
I was rear ended last October and took the opportunity to have all the chips and dings touched up and had the front bumper replaced as it had curb rash over the past 7 years. It cost me a grand out of my pocket but it makes my car look new...at least to me
The shop (Import Paint and Body) did an outstanding job and I cannot tell where any paint was matched. The deck lid and rear bumper were replaced from the accident.
Good luck and post pics of the improvements!!
Edward,
Man, I am really sorry to hear about the "hit and run!" I certainly am glad you were uninjured.
Along with the upgrades you have already mentioned, you might want to consider adding my Sidewinder Missile option to thta list. That way, if you are ever in this position again, one oush of a button and the "hit and run" culpret will be "stopped and burning." Just remember this line "
Officer, I don't really know what happened! I guess he must have ruptured the fuel line when he hit me, because all of a sudden, the back end of his car exploded!
" It works every time!
Please know that I am not making light of your situation, I'm just attempting to put a smile on your face during a bad time.
Sorry to hear about the car. Hope everything works out.
I drive into the city sometimes in the p-car because i love the West Side Highway on the way out.
sux man i got sympathy for u. i remember when i totaled my s2000 via hydroplane action. very solid car with that monocoque frame.
in your case, i'd be damn pissed since someone else caused the accident and lacked the ***** to run off like that.
Hey bud. It happened at 10th St (Northeast corner).
Thanks for all the kind words guys. A side bonus is that you guys can definitely look forward to a detailed road test when I get the car back next week.
Actually, keeping the car. I'm really attached to it and short of frame damage, a new fender and bumper basically makes the car look like new...well, hopefully!
Tim, love the sidewinder option. Wonder if you can get an X51 upgrade to a Tomahawk cruise with laser guidance. I could have tagged the hit and runner while he was speeding off and sent the cavalry after him.
Edward, there are two other "upgrades" but I thought they might be a little severe for your recent incident.
The first option (shown in the 1st pic) is the ANNIHL8 option, which uses Titan missiles as firepower. They are less selective in their targeting, and offer slightly broader base coverage, but the range is 3,000 miles.
The last option (2nd pic) is the OBLTR8 option, which offers "regional coverage." This switch comes with a fail-safe mechanism and includes indicator lights. Green indicates Safe mode. Push the switch once and the indicator light changes to Yellow, which lets you know that the Nuke is armed. Push the switch a second time within 10 seconds and the light changes to Red, indicating that launch in imminent. Push the switch a third time (within 5 seconds from when the Red light was activated) and the Nuke is launched.
With a range of 4,500 miles, these are good for out of state vendors that give you poor product support or low levels of customer support.
Ray,
Because the weight of the the Titan missiles and the Nukes are rather substantial, they are launched from a "home base" and therefore there options do add not weight to the car. Since the range is 3,000 - 4,500 miles, respectively, there is no need for them to be mobile.
The Sidewinder option adds only about 2.4 pounds if you install the 4-pack. They are mini Sidewinders and are available only through the Porsche ber Exclusive Option list. Below is a diagram from the special section of the PET showing this ber Exclusive Option. As you can see, they mount under the small hinged flaps, which normally house the roof rack system. The Sidewinders come painted either in primer or red. I personally prefer the red.
I had a hit and run in 2004 (in an Audi I bought for my mother!) around 27th and 10th. Was repaired on insurers dime, no increase to premium, was a pain, but still driving with little to report yet. I do kind of wish in retrospect that I had sold it after repair and prior to warranty expiration, as owning a big out of warranty Audi is harrowing enough without worrying about a replacement front end or halfshaft coming loose.
I still have an MB in town, but honestly driving this time of year in manhattan is part of the reason I haven't shipped the car back yet. Or myself. Not that LA is that much better in terms of the inattentive, inconsiderate or inept, especially with all the bad weather that followed me here (they can't drive in the rain at all)!
