Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
My temp guages on the Boxster and the 911 have never been "stuck" as you describe and they have seen some radical temp changes (from relatively warm garage to below zero temps).

Thanks for the note--I'll just replace the sensor.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A question for those few hardy soles who venture out in cold weather.
OK, I will admit that temperatures of -20 are not typical P-car weather, but I do have a question. Twice now, my outside air temp sensor has been stuck at a given temp. Once it was -7, other time -15.
Trying to figure out a pattern, the only thing I can think of was that, in both cases, the car had been subjected to a radical shift in temp. In other words, driven into a warm environment and then out again.
In both cases I was able to fix this by unplugging the outside sensor (located in front right grill). This resulted in an error message. Upon replacement, temp was OK again.
Just wondering how unusual this was? Since the sensor is only $16, I will replace it.
Jon, I literally burst out laughing when I read the second half of the title to this thread!
I am trying to recall if I gave you a really hard time about posting pics when you first posted on Rennlist. In retrospect, I hope I didn't because anyone who can get Phil's "modus operandi" down in such a short time is A-OK in my book!
I can't comment on the temp sensor, as mine has never "stuck." But then, I have not had the occasion to drive the car in temps below 25 degrees.
Taking mine out today for the first time in the cold. Will let you know. I live in Minneapolis so the temps are right.
All you guys talked me into buying spare wheels with Blizzacks and driving the C2 in the winter.
Paul
Hey, thanks--actually no grief from anyone yet, although my post for Valentine 1 mounting options revealed an odd hot-melt fetish on the part of one member . . .
Really, this site is great. My first P car, so nice to both get help and find that some of the quirks I have noticed are not unique to my car itself.
So far I have had lots of good advice. Well, the good advice is in the first 4-5 posts, then it degrades a little, but still a blast.
Damn, you might be one of the few "newbies" that got by me. So you didn't get my obligatory "Come on, Newbie post the !@#$%^&* PICS!!!" line? Damn, damn!!
Yeah, many times the pertinent info is shared in the first few posts, so when one gets to the thread a little late, there is nothing to add. That's is often how the later posts get a little (or a lot) off track from the original topic.
Gotta admit that I loved the title too.... although, I'm about as qualified as Phil to comment on cold weather driving... the lowest temperature I've seen my car register was 28F.
OK; here's a photo guys! Not the best, but will work on better next summer . . . Actually, has been on here before . . .

And, sometime, what would be fun to have (from the summer's concours)
But really, thanks for all the help everyone!
Jon, very nice! I had seen your local PCA "cover" pic before, but I don't recall seein g the pic of your Natural Brown interior. I haven't seen very many pics of 996 interiors with the wood trim. Just curious, how do you like the wood accent pieces?
Thanks much, I appreciate it! Regarding interior--first, I like it, although might be in the minority. I forgot to mention I purchased this used, so the 1st owner paid the $13K of interior wood and leather upgrades (but did not get it back at trade-in). But the total package is what I was drawn too. The saddle leather (technically brown, I know) goes great with the Orient Red as well as the wood. I have had black leather, grey leather, and black&gray leather, but always wanted a natural leather color. Finally got it! Also, kind of fun to see the comparison of the classic 356 interior with the 996 leather/wood alternative.
IMHO, you can take the 911 a couple of ways . ..

2. Luxury-retro-Eurocruiser-old-money-E-type Jag-alternative
My ideal has always been an E-Type Jag from the 60s. Now I have an alternative without the engine problems! Kind of miss the wire wheels, however.
One other point--I am lucky enough to have covered parking at work and a garage at home. Not sure I would want this much wood sitting in the sun . . .
My temp guages on the Boxster and the 911 have never been "stuck" as you describe and they have seen some radical temp changes (from relatively warm garage to below zero temps).
Thanks for the note--I'll just replace the sensor. Perhaps the only $16 part on the car!! (PS: Thanks also for the comments regarding wheels earlier--I really like the look of your RG5s, and hope to order soon.)
