Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know a compression test/leakdown is probably not possible on the lot, but is a reasonable PPI able to be done without a hoist?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I found a possible car, but it's an impound vehicle and they won't let it off the lot. They'll let anyone take a look at the car (start it up, etc) while it's on the lot, but won't let anyone take it anywhere.
Sounds unusual, but just thought I'd ask.... I know a compression test/leakdown is probably not possible on the lot, but is a reasonable PPI able to be done without a hoist? Anyone out there willing to do one?
Hi Lyle,
Congrats on your new purchase. I was one of the potential buyers of your 993 but I realized I wanted a 996 as well. Oh well, I'm still going to ask on this one for a longshot.
Eh, I wouldn't be ready to say that yet; I doubt he's planning on paying as much for it as he would at a Porsche dealer. If I could find someone reputable to do a PPI (or hell, if they even knew what to look for), I could see myself lowballing them in hopes of scoring a good deal.
Good point.
I was only sharing some advice that I received while shopping for mine. I thought it pretty good. I had offered a low-ball price on a 02 with 60K miles, PPI showed it had body repair. When considering negotiating an even lower price I got that piece of advice. Cost me 115 bucks.
In this situation I question the quality level of prior ownership, the worst thing that can happen to a car is its owner. Maybe the cars maintenance history is in the Owner's Manual, maybe the Owner's Manual is still in the car, who knows. A good price on a car that's been abused...that's not for me, but maybe its OK for others. A 911 that finds itself in an impound lot...why waste your time when so many to choose from? That's all I am trying to say, maybe could have done it a better way. Not my intention to offend anyone.
To discuss how car deals from impound lots is better than Porsche Dealer lots is probably a new thread.
