Suggestion

If fuel is cut while you're injecting NOS, you'll be running too lean (too lean of a fuel mixture leads to detonation) and can potentially damage the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just out of interest, has anyone put NOS into a 996? ! Saw a 928 with a NOS kit recently, the guy has had it installed for years, no problems. I am uneducated about the pitfalls of a NOS kit on any car, however it seems that a $1200 NOS kit would be easier/cheaper to install/remove ( to maintain warranty) then a supercharger. (Given that you would not use the kit very often) Again, I am "completely" ignorant about these kits, but the 928 was like a missle when he lit it up. Just wondering Thanks

POST 2Original post

I was curious about that too, but you're probably gonna get flamed for asking that one over here

POST 3Original post

There was a post a while back about someone installing a NOS, and where to put it...try a search. Never heard of anyone actually doing it tho....

POST 4Original post

a 50hp shot of NOS would probably not have a detrimental effect, however due to the high compression of a 996 engine, i would be very careful going with a bigger shot of NOS

POST 5Original post

NOS doesn't go well with porsche, in more ways than one.

POST 7Original post

im sure it CAN be done, im just saying, its not a wise decision.

POST 8Original post

You must not know much about nitrous oxide. If used safely and by someone who has maturity and restraint there's almost zero chance of f'ing anything up. It's when people get carried away jetting up the nitrous that things go wrong, and since it's so easy to think to yourself "i'll just jet up 25hp for a couple shots" that's when you throw a rod or melt a piston. If you're wise, research the topic thoroughly and take all necessary precautions there's NOTHING wrong with it. carbon, the first thing I'd suggest doing is going to your local Barnes & Noble automotive section and picking up a book on nitrous oxide and educating yourself on it as much as you can. Once you've done that and are aware of what and how N20 works, start researching a kit. cjv on this forum has added nitrous oxide to his 996 turbo, contacting him and the shop that did the work to his car (S Car Go Racing) would be a good idea as well.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

its more just out of interest...I would consider putting NOS in a car that was out of wararnty , thanks for the info! Cheers

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Such as what? I am genuinely interested.

POST 11Original post

As long as you don't spray before 3k rpm's, it should be be reasonably safe. It's boost, just like a turbo/sc.

POST 12Original post

Hi carbon_00; I'll be installing a NOS kit on a 944 that I just bought as a dedicated autoX and fun project car. I'm going with the ZEX NOS kit because once armed it is activated by the cars throttle position sensor i.e.- wide open throttle. I'm also going with their nitrous nozzle in the air cone filter to eliminate having to drill and tap the intake tube, hence easy off for autoX. NOS is just N2O and when injected into an engine, the normal combustion creates enough heat to separate the N2O into its two components, nitrogen and oxygen. It's the additional oxygen that is freed up that you are after to react with additional fuel. Things to watch out for: besides too big a shot of NOS another danger is hitting the rev limiter on our cars. If fuel is cut while you're injecting NOS, you'll be running too lean (too lean of a fuel mixture leads to detonation) and can potentially damage the engine. I'll report back once I get it installed on the 944, I have a couple of ideas for a 996 install. btw- My daily driver is a supercharged 996. It's the EVOM kit and car #2 installed by SCarGo. --Ken

POST 13Original post

I just bought a 996 yesturday. I will be installing a NX wet kit with a 75 shot. Should be relatively safe at that HP. I will let you know how it goes and take some pics for you. Rob

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, would be interesting to see it installed. Cheers
