I believe even in Canada!) Used 996s for sale, many from a reseller standpoint more desirable (models, mileage, color) than your car.

Difference Engine, I don't even see many 996's in used car showrooms or even dealerships around here in Vancouver, but yet they say there's high stock blah blah blah.

If you want to find the current wholesale value in your geographical area, "Shop your car" for wholesale offers from several of the "Highline" type used car dealers in your area.

Suggestion
From a business perspective, they are probably "overloaded" and would likely "lowball" your offer (as suggested by others) for a relatively small but quick "turn" to a wholesaler/Used Car outlet or immediately off to the Auction.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I am recently selling my 1 year old 03 Carrera in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. I bought the car for 120,000 CAD (approx. 88,000 USD) before taxes. Since I am moving out of the country, I will be selling off the car. The same $tealer who sold me the car said they'll take it back for 72,000 CAD (53,333 USD)
after 12000 Miles on the car.
Do you guys think it the market is that bad or am I being taken for a ride here? I know I can sell it off privately but it would take some time.
Here's some details on the car:
2003 911 Carrera
6 Speed
18900 KM or 11900 Miles
Basalt Black Metallic
Natural Brown Full Leather Interior
Porsche Factory Carpet (Natural Brown)
Sunroof
Options:
18" Carrera Wheels
Posche Stability Management System
Bose Sound System (Single CD)
Sport Seats
Heated Seats
Porsche Crest on Headrests
White Face dials on gauges
Stainless Steel "Carrera" Door Entry Plates
Bi-Xenon Headlights
Rear Wiper
Any input is appreciated.
The used 996 market is pretty soft (lot's of cars for sale right now) and the 997 is coming next month. That doesn't seem like an unfair price to me considering that new 2004 996's are being discounted quite a bit. If you have to sell it quickly that might be your best option.
Looks realistic, kbb.com has the trade in value listed at $50,915. The dealer would probably retail the car for $58,500 USD. With the '05's coming out next month, your car is closer to two years old.
Remember the depreciation hits hardest in the first 2 years (model years....so in your case you are at 2 model years) It also doesn't help with the 997 coming out.
That is exactly why in 2003 i bought an 00 C2 coupe with 11k miles on it for 50k and tons of upgrades. I got a car in brand new condition for way under the original cost!!!
Only way to buy Porsche's - even if you are loaded with $$$$!!!!!!!!!!1

As a Canadian dealer, I can tell you this. We have an 03 Coupe that retailed for around $123,000CDN on our lot right now with 7500km, and it's priced at $99,900CDN. We have a 2000 Coupe with 28,000km priced at $79,900CDN. ANd last week I sold a 99 Coupe with GT3 Aerokit, full leather, and 18"s for $65,900CDN.
I think they're lowballing you.

The sold price is a lot more revealing than the asked for price. There are three Porsche dealers near me. In May/June you would be lucky to see a used 996 on any of their lots and if there was one, it was gone within a week. Last weekend two of the dealers had three 996s and the third one had two 996s on their lots. So this could be an indication that the 996 inventory is building and it will be much more difficult for the dealers to get the high end of retail. I believe the inventory buidup will substantially increase when the 997s become available in a few weeks. Therefore I understand the reluctance of some dealers to pay top dollar for a 996.
I completely agree. I bought my 2002 C2 Cab - 2 years old, 4,000miles, and the price was $30,000 below original sticker! The car still smells brand new!
Sure, any dealer will overvalue a vehicle when it's a sales proposition and undervalue a vehicle when it's a trade-in. Consumers know it and therefore generally have a lack of confidence with many dealers.
Example #1 above:
2003 996 coupe, 7,500km @ $99,900CAD = 4,660miles @ $75,080USD
Kelley Blue Book retail price = $65,175
Example #2 above:
2000 996 coupe, 28,000km @ $79,900 = 17,398miles @ $60,049USD
Kelley Blue Book retail price = $49,527
Without the milage, I cannot comment on example #3.
C2G,
If you want to find the current wholesale value in your geographical area, "Shop your car" for wholesale offers from several of the "Highline" type used car dealers in your area. Forget the price quides, Blue Book, NADA, etc...it's what a willing wholesale buyer is willing to pay TODAY based on the current auction market. Remember, just because it's a Porsche, the authorized Porsche dealers will not likely offer more for your vehicle unless it's a potential quick "turn" or their Used Car Dept is drastically short of cars (unlikely as soft as the 996 market is currently). The dealership buyer is the Manager of the Used Car Dept and current market conditions, auction sales, reliable wholesalers/brokers are (or should be) the basis of his offer.
The Porsche Dealer website shows 2 authorized dealers in your area. The First has a dozen (12... I believe even in Canada!) Used 996s for sale, many from a reseller standpoint more desirable (models, mileage, color) than your car. From a business perspective, they are probably "overloaded" and would likely "lowball" your offer (as suggested by others) for a relatively small but quick "turn" to a wholesaler/Used Car outlet or immediately off to the Auction. The Second shows only 1- Used 996 on hand . Unless their business is really soft, they may be a more receptive buyer after you have shopped your car yourself to determine a realistic wholesale value.

First of all, I want to thank everybody for their replies. They have been helpful. I have been able to negotiate a couple thousand more at around 75,000 CAD (55,555 USD) and am probably gonna bring the car down to them this afternoon. However, them $tealers are still trying to lowball another 1000 off for my rear tires only having 30-40% tread remaining . It's really frustrating.
perrys7342 , the black book or Kelly's blue book value in my area says 70,000-80,000 CAD for a 03 Carrera coupe which isn't a big help with a gap that big. That said though, I think my mint condition that stickered for 120,000 should be at the very least worth 80,000 trade in value. But oh well, such is life.
Difference Engine, I don't even see many 996's in used car showrooms or even dealerships around here in Vancouver, but yet they say there's high stock blah blah blah. But I guess that's how they would make money off ppl like me who need to sell.

In your case, the cost of 911 ownership for 1 year is more than 30K which seems to be ultra high.
Maybe you should come down and sell it to US buyers in Seattle. Seattle market is still strong and I suppose you can sell it for 60K in private.
For what it is worth, the last 2003 911 Coupe that actually sold on eBay (Seal Grey, 20K miles) went in the upper 50's. Those listed starting in the 60's didn't even draw a bid. With that, a wholesale offer in the mid 50's is not that bad.
Perry (42 years of Porsche Ownership, etc.)
Yeah.. I have seen those numbers too. Unfortunately, the market is very different here in Seatte areas. For 2001, mid 50s are the going price for 996. For 2003, you definitely have to pay over 60Ks here or you wont even get to touch it. I understand that not all regions are like this..
Much as other people have said, I think the price of 996s varies considerably depending on location. For example, the market (judging by prices) seems quite strong in Ontario (Toronto area). And in general, the average prices of 996s seem quite a bit higher in Canada than in the states. Perhaps it has something to do with very few Canadian 996s on Ebay to bring the prices down???
