Someone once described the difference like this: British Car shows can make a Ford Fiesta test exciting, while American car shows can make a Ferrari test boring as ****.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I became a fan of the TV show after seeing it on the Discovery Channel. I saw the Top Gear magazine in the bookstore the other day and bought it. The magazine is nothing special, but it did have a piece in it about the American version of the TV show, Top Gear. They made a pilot of an americanized version with a drag racer, jock, and reality show winner as hosts. What? Oh my, that seems stupid. Not so much for trying the format, but what credibility could these guys bring to a car show?
What makes the BBC show entertaining is the personalities, very good writing and off beat ideas, and their willingness to trash a car (even if the victim is, as often as not, a Porsche).
So much for Discovery bringing the British show back. Too bad.
Leave it to stupid American producers to ruin a great show by dumbing it down. (no flames please, I'm extremely proud American but our tv car shows are absolute ****)
BTW, Tiff used to be on top gear in the early days. mcuh better driver and not so biased as clarckson. jeremy et al are very entertaining.
i sent an email to discovery channel, telling them it was a big mistake that they are cancelling it. they said it was NOT cancelled but will resume programming shortly.
100% agree. american car show suck a$$. it's was like it was produced and starred high school students
.
even though Top Gear US was dumed down it is still 100x better than any american show.

So true! I eagerly anticipate episodes of either Top Gear or 5th gear.
With American car shows, even though I'm a car nut, I usually change the channel to something more exciting, like an info-mercial...
I have every episode of this show for about the last 5 years. Both 5th and Top Gear (NON AMERICAN VERSIONS). If anyone is looking for a certain episode, or clip, let me know. I can also instruct you where to download as many as you would like for free.
I also have a huge collection of FifthGear and TopGear episodes. I'm guessing you use BitTorrent to download them? I've been looking for episodes from 1992 - 1995, but can't find them anywhere! Do they even exist? I want to see my 993 being tested!!
Humm...I have all of 1989, 1990, 1991, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 with some spotty clips from in between, but nothing with the 993.
Do you have stuff I don't have?
Here is a blurb from the latest Top Gear magazine discussing the US version of the show to be aired on Discovery. Hopefully it will be good but I'd be happier if they just broadcast the UK version here. The good news is that the Stig is willing to go trans-Atlantic for us. I mean can you imagine a NASCAR yahoo testing cars on the show dressed in cognito?
