Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Thought the hood release by the drivers door was run on wire and not electronics.
Leading evidence: 'Run on wire and not electronics' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run on wire and not electronics' (1 discussions). These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find the post. My battery is dead and can't open the hood/engine compartment because of this.. I know that the 01+ has an area in the fuse depasrtment, but what do I do in the 99 to jumpstart the battery? Thanks..
Bob,
There's any emergency cable that is accessible behind the wheel well liner on the front left. You just pull out a few plastic securing plugs on the front side of the liner, pull it back, and the cable is visible there.
paul,
no, when the battery dies on these cars, it won't let you open either. not sure the logic.. but oh well..
i saw that post before, but i have an aftermarket front bumper which has no entrance.. is a cigarette charger the only alternative?
I didn't know 1999 cars had an electric hood release -- I thought the electric hood release only came in 2002+ cars. I guess I learned something new today.
My 2000 cariolet has a cable hood release. In any case, I can definitely open the door even when the battery is dead. Good luck getting your car jump started.
On a 1998-2000 the mechanical releases are locked when the alarm is on. If the battery dies while the alarm was on then the levers are still locked.
There is a front and rear emergency release. Should not matter that you have an aftermarket front bumper. Also remember that you 996 guys can get to battery power in the engine compartment, unlike us Boxster owners.
If you have a lighter charger give it a try. There are other ways but this is the most simple.
I didn't think it did. Thought the hood release by the drivers door was run on wire and not electronics. Bob have you tried to unlock with the key and pull the lever?
I sent Bob instructions for opening the trunk in 60 seconds or less. Once open, he can connect jumper cables to the positive terminal post and ground and start his car.
When the car is locked with the alarm engaged, that lever won't budge. If you put your hand on the latch to open the door and open it just as you're pushing the remote to unlock it, you'll get the same effect. You will open the door and the alarm and lock won't fully disengage and you won't be able to move that lever. Don't ask how I know that...
Why do you have to access the battery to jump start the car? Can't you just push it in neutral and pop the clutch? Or is there something special about the car that won't allow this?
