I literally (as in about an hour ago) put the Porsche 17 mm rear spacers on with the snows because they looked a little donutty - check the 997 forum later as I'll probably make a post today with more pics.

The first yr I had mine, I used summer tires in the winter, not fun, but doable in a pinch.

However, I have personally used both Wheel Enhancement (many times for tires and for my only wheels) and Tru Wheel (for refinishing and mild truing) and I recommend them.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yup me too! That's why I asked, maybe it's only something that Porsche can order?
I have 17" snows now, but I bent the right rear rim and need a new rim and tire. But tire rack will not have the rim until late Feb... so I need to put my 18's back on.
Doh!
Riad,
I reread your message and need to update my earlier response. I am not running stock turbo twists as I have winter wheels. I have a 2004 C4S with Pirelli 240 Snow Sports. The fronts are 225/40 18 and the rears are 265/35 18. The rears are equipped with spacers. This is the second season and I have found them to be very good. Let me know of any questions.
Problem is Riad's car has 11" rims on the back, that's too wide for a 265.
If you're interested, I may sell my winter rims and tires w/ spacers/bolts, let me know Rob.
Chris
I don't think snow tires are available for the 11" rear wheel. Porsche recommend a 10" wheel with a 265/35 tire. From the manual:
Code:
911 Carrera 4S
Summer tires
Tire Rim Rim offset Track
front 225/40 ZR 18 8 J x 18 H2 50 mm 57.9 in./1472 mm
rear 295/30 ZR 18 11 J x 18 H2 45 mm 60.2 in./1528 mm
or rear 295/30 ZR 18 11 J x 18 H2 63 mm (only with 17 mm spacer ring) 60.1 in./1526 mm
Snow tires
Tire Rim Rim offset Track
front 225/40 R 18 88H M+S 8 J x 18 H2 50 mm 57.9 in./1472 mm
rear *265/35 R 18 93H M+S 10 J x 18 H2 47 mm 60.0 in./1524 mm
Wheel Enhancement would be a good place to look for the Porsche 47mm rear wheel. If you don't need a high end wheel, you might consider a reproduction:
Repros
I have no experience with these wheels.
I just checked their site. It looks like I could get the OEM 17" Turbo Look rear wheel (17x9) to match the Mille Miglia Cup 3's I have on the car... I don't see the Dunlop Winter M3's so I might have to order the tire from Tirerack. But I'll call WheelEnhancement on Monday.
Riad I went with Goodyear Ultra Grip GD3's, I gotta tell ya they are great in the snow, and work well on the dry .I have to say they are the best performance Snow tires I have ever had..
How about these
Vredestein's
? They are the Wintrac Xtreme's and are good for up to 168mph and have an aggressive look, unlike most winter tires - and available in 18inch.
Rob - I bought an 18" Winter package from Tire Rack for my 997 4S (MM3 style with Winter Conti 265r and 235f) - see this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/245937-put-my-snow-tires-on-long-w-lots-of-pics.html
I think this should work on your car,...no?
I literally (as in about an hour ago) put the Porsche 17 mm rear spacers on with the snows because they looked a little donutty - check the 997 forum later as I'll probably make a post today with more pics.
Well the problem is that I already have a set of 17" snow tires. One of my rear rims bent and the tire has a small bubble in it so it needs to be replaced. I called Tirerack to order the rim, but the Mille Miglia Cup 3's are out of stock and they wont have them until next month. So I have to either put my 18" summer tires on, or order the rim from wheel enhancements.
I was considering just buying 4 winter tires for my Turbo Twist rims, but apparently they don't make winter tires that wide.
Rob
yes 18's, 18x8, 18x10/225,265's p240 wintersports, 1 real season on them.
You might be better off just taking your chances with summer tires the rest of the winter, just take the train when it snows alot. The first yr I had mine, I used summer tires in the winter, not fun, but doable in a pinch.
I have new (one month of use) 18" turbo twist wheels with Dunlop snow tires. These were purchased from the Porsche dealership a month ago and have less than 500 miles on them. These were $2,700. But, I think I've decided to not drive the car this winter. These were on a 2001 C4S. I am located in NH. I will be passing through south western CT or Westhchester County within a few weeks. Let me know if you might be interested. I can send you some pics and more details.
Not sure what size rim you have, but my 996 C4 has 225/40/18 on the front, 265/35/18 on the rear. There are a couple tires winter I found that work. Goodyear ultragrip, and Michelin pilot alpine PA2 both fit. Year round driver in Minnesota...
Same here Kilrgt. I just got them put on last week, perfect timing what with the snow storm expected in NYC tomorrow. They are good looking, handle well if a tad softer than my summer contis, but surprisingly are a lot quieter than the Contisports. Those of you who have read my posts on Contis know that I hate them there tires and will likely swap out to the Goodyear Eagles F1s next year.
Rob, I just realized that you're in New York state.... I kept thinking that you were in Orange County CALIFORNIA! I was giving you links local to Los Angeles.
However, I have personally used both Wheel Enhancement (many times for tires and for my only wheels) and Tru Wheel (for refinishing and mild truing) and I recommend them.
Good luck getting that 17" wheel.
I'm going to put on Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires on my 18s and drive up to Toronto soon. I don't plan to drive much in the winter unless the streets are clear.
Have MM 3s and Blizzak 25s from Tire Rack on my '03 C4S. Very happy with the dry and wet road performance-not much snow yet to evaluate tires' performance.
I am buying a winter car, Audi Allroad, so I'd be willing to sell my winter wheels/tires from my 02 C4S. They are OE Turbo Twists with 10" rears and Dunlop Winter Sports. Let me know if your interested.
