Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run top up and down about 10 times' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rear cover motor not actuating its micro switch' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check hydraulic fluid' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Figured it out, it was the rear cover motor not actuating its micro switch.

Suggestion
If not, wingle gentley until it retracts, then lubricate when you get the chance.

Suggestion
Rear lid wouldn't even open as roof was mis aligned, latch motor had to be disassembled through back seat and lid opened manually also had to replace latch motor.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I made a silly mistake of trying to close my soft top when parked on a downward slope. IT did close but with quite a bit of effort. Subsequently, it could hardly do so unless manually coaxed. It did this two/three times and is now totally inoperable.
Would you know a quick fix for this or would I have to get the whole works replaced?
Appreciate your help, all
Thanks!
Make sure the engine compartment lid is closed.
Make sure the parking brake in engaged.
Check the hydraulic fluid level for the top. Many times these gets neglected and it the fluid level is low, the top will not operate properly.
Here is a link to a DIY on Renntech.org. for topping off the fluid. In order to see DIY you will have to "sign up" on Renntech.
Cabrio top hydraulic fluid step by step
Thanks a million, my top did not open easily, had to give it a push, followed the instructions on renntech and hey GUYS I did it, its fixed ! Jesus, i fixed something myself ! I'm so freaking happy !
and by the way my handbrake light was not on, maybe the reservoir wasn't empty enough to turn that on.
And since i'm a freak for buiying the right stuff, i bought Porsche hydraulic fluid, $45.00 for a little bottle about teh size of a Urine sample.
Porsche have no conscience !
My top was really straining to open and close the last two weeks. I printed the Renntech DIY. Picked up Pentosin CHF11 for $22 as an alternative to the Porsche fluid, 40 cents for the tubing, Less than $1 for the syringe. It was a peice of cake! It took less than an hour. Works like a charm and my back carpet panel has never looked so good after a good vacuum.
Mine was acting up too. The top worked fine on up and down, however, the dash board light blinked at the end of the cycle before it actuated the windows.
I added hydraulic fluid to the pump, the reservoir was bone dry. I ran the top up and down about 10 times.
Now the "open the top" action works fine, however, the "close the top" action still does not work correctly. I get the blinking error light before the windows go up.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks!
Chris
There are no sensors detecting the hydraulic fluid level. It should never go down unless you have a leak. The parking brake light is controlled by a microswitch located below the base of the handbrake. The newer CAB controllers don't require the handbrake to be on to activate the top. And, you can be travelling up to 25 mph and still activate the top. though I would never do that. (wind gusts)
Are both your side panel flaps out of the way? If not, wingle gentley until it retracts, then lubricate when you get the chance. Not a permanent solution. I have to re-lubracate mine. Will replace in the winter.
Yes, I just found a TSB on the subject. The flap motor over runs and binds. Porsche recommends bending the microswitch arm downward 1 to 2 mm.

Figured it out, it was the rear cover motor not actuating its micro switch. I MacGyvered it with some duct tape and it works fine now.

Posted about a 2004 996 TT Cab X50, the roof wouldn't close, found the cause the hinge is broken.
Rear lid wouldn't even open as roof was mis aligned, latch motor had to be disassembled through back seat and lid opened manually also had to replace latch motor. Should have it completed by next Tuesday.
So far all
I have heard is it never happens, well it does.
