I also recently installed a very similar pioneer head unit (DEH-X9500BHS), but I've been quite happy with it.

After reading literally hundreds of posts I jumped in and replaced the amp, rewired the Subs in series, rewired the dash in series and installed a new head unit and ran two usb outlets into the cubby.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello...long time (well since April) lurker...first post. I just wanted to thank all of you in the 996 forum for all of the assistance you provided me over this last week without even knowing it. I purchased my first porsche MY04 C4S back in April and have loved every minute of owning it. This past week I finally decided to get rid of my CDR-23 and move into the 21st century. After reading literally hundreds of posts I jumped in and replaced the amp, rewired the Subs in series, rewired the dash in series and installed a new head unit and ran two usb outlets into the cubby. It was only with the help of many of the people on this board that I was able to complete the job with a great deal of satisfaction. So much so that I decided to change the oil, put in a new cabin air filter and install a new K&N air filter. You are all the best and I hope to one day be able to post something here that will help someone else as much as I have been helped. Thanks Again.

POST 2Original post

Hello nymart and welcome. Good job on the DIYs. How about posting some pics of that nice C4S?

POST 3Original post

OK Nymart well done and welcome but now the fun really starts. Simple preventative DIY work IMHO after a cell phone photo of belt, is new serpentine belt, (when its off check all pulleys for noise or play) Change Air filter in engine compartment, Youtube vids showing how to clean crap from between radiators & Condensors. Maybe change coolant, and eventually change brake pads from youtube vids. I am a very old guy and found the work straight forward enough. Have fun and enjoy your car. Some photos of your ride please.

POST 4Original post

Good job on the stereo but you may want to reconsider the K&N. There is an easy mod to the stock airbox and drop in filter that gets great airflow w/o using the K&N.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks gentlemen. I'm really looking forward to doing more of my own work on the car. KrazyK...I didn't do a CAI, I just changed to the reusable K&N drop in filter. Not sure if that's what you meant or not. I've "read" about the "gillete" mod if that's what you're referring to, but I haven't found the how to post on it yet. If you've got something better/different to suggest, I'm all ears. My son has a supercharger and a Borla exhaust on his BMW and he's dying for me to do something (new exhaust) about the sound of the porsche...he thinks it's too wimpy sounding but I certainly don't want to be heard from 4 blocks away...one car in the family for that is enough.

POST 6Original post

Try the exhaust modification from FisterD using your own exhaust. If you want to lose weight on the exhaust, then you'll need to go after market.

POST 7Original post

I had the exact same head unit and after 3 month and a dozen or so argumenents with the copilot, I replaced it with a double din. Based on the installation we were just unable to read the small screen. The reflection on the screen was impossible to read and ultimately became a driving hazard as I fumbled around trying to switch channels or to XM etc. Swapped it for a AVH-8400BH.

POST 8Original post

I also recently installed a very similar pioneer head unit (DEH-X9500BHS), but I've been quite happy with it. I tested quite a few, and the pioneer did the best job with apple device integration, had two rear usb ports, good usb charging output, and allowed a nice color match. I set mine up as a back-end for an in-dash ipad installation, so screen visibility on the head unit, while fine, wasn't that big of a concern anyway... My install thread in case you are interested...

POST 9Original post

Orange cap mod for intake. http://www.smiley.net/orangecap.htm They got wise to the "free sample" ploy. You have to buy them in 200pc mini bags. If you call a distributer they might send one or two. More info in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...e-cap-mod.html

POST 10Original post

I have a spare Orange Cap listed in the free classifieds. PM me if you are interested in it.

POST 11Original post

Looks good...do you have a yellow leather interior? Would love to see more shots of the interior.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No it's not yellow...I'm not sure exactly what the color is...almost a mustard/tan...I'll take some more pictures and I'm sure someone will tell me exactly what the color is.

POST 13Original post

Probably savanna, it shows up yellow on cellphone camera flash for some reason
