I am going to have my friend check the dimensions of the roller to see if there is any difference before installing in the car.

My reluctance to just install it and if I am just replacing my oem one with another oem one my popout issue will most likely not be fixed.

I think the gbox detent uses a custom roller, but I believe that is the only difference.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
I purchased a used GBox Detent piece for my 996. I just took out the old detent and put them side by side. They both look identical. I am reluctant to put in this new one in case it is not a genuine GBox Detent piece since it may not fix my popout issue. There are no markings on it.
Can someone verify if this is genuine GBox detent or not before I install it.
I purposely did not put which one is which to see if there is consensus on the genuine one if it exists.
Thanks,
TBAHR
The gbox detent is not marked the way it appears on the website. You can be sure by measuring the wheel inside, it's a different diameter than the oem piece.
yep that is correct, the one on the right is the one I took out of my car, just hoping the one on the left has the modification done to it to help with the popout issue. I am going to have my friend check the dimensions of the roller to see if there is any difference before installing in the car.
I could visually see the difference in the size of the roller when I did mine and put them side by side. Maybe your car already had the detent changed out? Call Gbox they are easy to deal with, and full of information. Are you sure you got a real Gbox detent? where did you but it?
Hello Cornbread,
I purchased it used from a fellow Rennlist member and since there were no markings on it and it looked so close to my OEM one I pulled out (assuming it was never changed out), so I am not 100% sure it is genuine. The seller mentioned he bought a genuine gbox detent and when he went to change it out it was the same as his old one. My question is the difference that noticeable with the naked eye or only with digital measurements.
My reluctance to just install it and if I am just replacing my oem one with another oem one my popout issue will most likely not be fixed. I may never know if a genuine one would have solved my problem. I do realize in either case if my gears are too far gone, neither solution would fix my issue and a rebuild is in order.
I was hoping someone would say, yep that one on the left is genuine than i would have the confidence to just put in.
This one would be touch to tell without taking a measurement of the wheels. Give me a call though if you have questions on this and I will try to be of some help to you. While I never would have thought that someone would sell the original OEM as a GBox Detent, it does make sense to order directly to ensure that you get what you pay for, I guess.

I'll have my new part direct from GBOX here in a day or two and my trans is out already so I'll do a comparison for you tbhar, with measurements.
Couple days.
Well, here's my stock detent on the left and the gbox on the right. The size difference of the roller is noticeable, but I can't tell if you have two stock detents or two GBOX detents.
Additionally, the gbox has an extra set of notches on the side where the pin is mounted but that may not show up on every part.
Roller measurements:
stock: 9.90 mm = 0.3900 inches
GBOX: 8.56 mm = 0.3375 inches
